Skymark Airlines started its fourth domestic route from Ibaraki (IBR), the low-cost airport serving Tokyo.

On 28 April, the Japanese carrier began daily flights on the 1,647-kilometre route to Okinawa (OKA) using its 737-800s. While there is no direct competition on the route, there are some 40 flights per day between Okinawa and Tokyo’s two main airports at Haneda and Narita offered by All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Jetstar Japan, Peach Aviation and Vanilla Air, as well as Skymark itself which operates six daily flights between Haneda and Okinawa. Skymark’s existing routes from Ibaraki are to Fukuoka, Kobe and Sapporo Chitose.
