Thai Airways to retain original A350 delivery schedule

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) management says it has decided to stick with its original A350-900 delivery schedule given improvements in the airline's financial position.

Airline sources told The Bangkok Post that as per its original agreement with Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac), Thai will receive its first two A350s over the coming months to be followed by five in 2017 and five in 2018.

In a bid to ease its balance of payments, the airline announced in January that it had opened talks with Airbus and rival Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) over the possible deferral in aircraft deliveries (two B787-9s in the latter's case). However, by March, management indicated that no deals had yet been reached with either manufacturer.

As such, it is uncertain whether a contractual binding with the Europeans played a role in Thai's decision to adhere to its A350 delivery schedule.
