The Haikou-based carrier has filed an application for three new routes including Shanghai-Boston, Beijing-San Jose and Shanghai-Seattle. The airline has secured approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for the routes, the source said.
Hainan Airlines plans to operate Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the thrice-weekly Shanghai-Boston service and the five-time weekly Beijing-San Jose service, and deploy Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the four-time weekly Shanghai-Seattle service.
The airline will start the services from the second quarter of 2015, subject to DOT approval.
