CAMRA Regional Airlines eyes Cameroon flights

CAMRA Regional Airlines (Yaoundé Nsimalen) is a Canadian-backed start-up looking to offer both scheduled passenger and cargo flights throughout Cameroon and West Africa in general.

Using a fleet of Saab 340Bs (which may include freighters as well), CAMRA plans to connect its Yaoundé Nsimalen hub with Douala, Bertoua, N'Gaoundéré, Garoua, Bafoussem, and Bamenda before venturing abroad to Libreville (Gabon), Bangui (Central African Republic), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), and Lagos (Nigeria).

At present, the domestic Cameroonian market is dominated by government-backed carrier Camair-Co (QC, Douala) using a B737-700. A pair of MA-60s, on lease from Section Liaison Air Yaoundé (Yaoundé Nsimalen), have yet to enter service despite having arrived in-country in March this year. Local media indicate the Chinese-built turboprop has yet to secure type-certification from the Cameroonian civil aviation authority (Autorité aéronautique du Cameroun - AAC)
