SCAC says delivered six Superjets in H1 2017

Yamal Airlines was one of the carriers that put SSJ100 aircraft into revenue service this year (Yamal Airlines)

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) delivered six Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional aircraft in the first half of 2017, reads the company’s Q2 statement. The figure is 33.3% lower than during the same period last year. The manufacturer explains the decline by the schedule of 2017 deliveries, which calls for the main portion of new airliners to be handed over to customers in the second half of the year.

The slowdown in deliveries led to SCAC seeing its revenue drop 25.4%, to 10.111 billion rubles ($171 million). The company also registered a net loss of 751.5 million rubles for the first six months of the year, Kommersant daily reports, against a net income during the same period in 2016. SCAC puts the losses down to the unfavorable ruble exchange rate and massive expenses on interest payments.

The report does not disclose the recipients of the six aircraft delivered in the first half of the year. Open sources suggest that at least 13 Superjets were put into revenue service over the period: four by IrAero (RA-89075, RA-89076, RA-89077, and RA-89078), six by Yamal Airlines (RA-89068, RA-89069, RA-89070, RA-89071, RA-89072, and RA-89073), and three aircraft by Irish-based CityJet (EI-FWF, EI-FWE, and EI-FWD).

The SCAC report says the company is planning to sell a total of 34 SSJ 100 aircraft in 2017. The plans for 2018 and 2019 call for delivering 38 and 37 airframes, respectively. In 2016, according to the manufacturer’s updated report, it delivered 26 SSJ100s (as compared to the original report, which mentioned 28).

SCAC is believed to have delivered a total of 115 Superjets to July 31, 2017.

Russian regional carrier Yamal Airlines has completed acceptance procedures for a batch of six Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) aircraft leased through GTLK State Transport Leasing Company. As the result, its fleet of the type is expanded to nine jets, all leased through GTLK. Six of them are leased for the period of 12 years, whereas the contract for remaining three is valid for one year, GTLK told Russian Aviation Insider. The spokesperson for the company also added that Yamal is poised to get ten more SSJ 100s before the end of 2017.

The airline has the total of 25 aircraft of the type on order. The letter of intent between the lessor and the carrier was signed at the Moscow MAKS-2015 air show. The SSJ 100s are expected to replace Western-built airliners in Yamal's fleet. The airline currently operates three Boeing 737-400s, a Boeing 737-500, six Airbus A320s, two Airbus A321s, ten Bombardier CRJ200LRs, two L-410 turboprops and a Bombardier Challenger 850.

The SSJ 100 manufacturer, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company, announced plans to deliver up to 40 aircraft to customers this year. Out of this number 35 are new aircraft, and five will find new owners.

Yamal Airlines to accept six Superjet 100s

According to the initial plan, the six aircraft were scheduled for delivery to Yamal before the end of the last year (Photo by Yamal Airlines)

Russia’s GTLK State Transport Leasing Company has initiated delivery of a batch of six Sukhoi Superjet 100s (SSJ 100) to local regional carrier Yamal Airlines. The acceptance procedures are taking place in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, a GTLK spokesperson told Russian Aviation Insider last week. According to the initial plan, the six aircraft were scheduled for delivery to Yamal before the end of the last year.

Yamal Airlines currently operates three SSJ 100s in a single-class 103 seats configuration. Before the end of 2017 the airline is expecting delivery of the total of 13 aircraft of the type under a firm contract signed last year. This batch includes two aircraft (MSN 95109 and 95112, tail numbers RA-8906 and RA-89069 respectively) in long-range version with the seating capacity for 100 passengers, which may be converted into 93-seat version.

Yamal’s general director Vassiliy Kryuk mentioned that the leasing agreement for the SSJ 100s the carrier operates at the moment was signed for just one year, not 12 as initially planned. He did not however specify the reason.

In 2015 GTLK and Yamal inked a letter of intent for the total of 25 SSJ 100s at the Moscow MAKS air show.

Next to Yamal, another Russian carrier Yakutia Airlines is also taking delivery of a SSJ 100 in Zhukovsky. This SSJ 100LR variant, MSN 95077, tail number RA-89037, was assembled in November 2016 and also has a single-class 103 seats configuration. The carrier will operate it under 12 year operational lease agreement with GTLK.
