Alliance Airlines (Australia) has entered into a sale and purchase agreement for an additional 30 E190s from AerCap Ireland.

 Aircraft deliveries and payments will commence in September 2023 and will be completed in January 2026.

Alliance Airlines retires Fokker 50s

On 14 August, Alliance Airlines conducted its final Fokker 50-flight. The last flight was performed by VH-FKZ (20286), which operated a thirty minute goodbye-flight from Adelaide, with staff and kids onboard. On 8 August, the airline already announced it has sold its last five Fokker 50s (and all engines and spare parts) to an unknown operator.

Alliance Airlines' relation with the turboprop started back in February 2007, when it took delivery of its first Fokker 50. In total, the airline operated seven Fokker 50s:

• VH-FKO (20160), 33-years old, delivered in August 2012, and retired and stored at Adelaide in March 2021. Sold to the unknown operator.

• VH-FKP (20161), 27-years old, acquired by the airline in August 2009 for parts, and was scrapped completely in April 2016. Never flown for the airline.

• VH-FKV (20303), 28-years old, delivered in June 2008, and retired and stored at Adelaide in April 2021. Sold to the unknown operator.

• VH-FKW (20306), 27-years old, delivered in June 2008, and retired in August 2022. Sold to the unknown operator.

• VH-FKX (20312), 26-years old, delivered in August 2007, retired in March 2020, and stored at Adelaide since then. Sold to the unknown operator.

• VH-FKY (20284), 29-years old, delivered in February 2007, retired in December 2014, and has been stored at Adelaide ever since and will be scrapped.

• VH-FKZ (20286), 29-years old, delivered in April 2007, and retired in August 2022. Sold to the unknown operator.

Next to the Fokker 50s, Alliance also operates the world's largest fleet of Fokker 70s and 100s, with a total of fourteen Fokker 70s and 25 Fokker 100s. It also operates 25 Embraer ERJ190s, which will, in time, replace the Fokkers.

Qantas, Alliance Airlines ink capacity deal

 

A new capacity deal between Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Alliance Airlines (QQ, Brisbane Int'l) will see the replacement of B737-800s with smaller E190s on the QantasLink network from June 2021.

In terms of the agreement announced on February 4, Qantas has signed a three-year contract to use Alliance Airline's three recently-acquired 94-seat Embraer regional jets based in Darwin and Adelaide, which will enable it to make capacity adjustments on selected routes depending on travel demand. Initial routes identified would be Adelaide-Alice Springs, Darwin-Alice Springs, and Darwin-Adelaide. Frequencies are likely to increase on these routes due to the smaller aircraft type, with Qantas’ B737s to be redeployed elsewhere in Australia, the Qantas Group said in a statement.

Qantas said the agreement provided it with the flexibility to access an additional eleven E190s and switch off some, or all, of this capacity, depending on market conditions. It said the arrangement was in line with its ongoing “right aircraft, right route” strategy to its network management.

The capacity switch timing will depend on the rate of recovery in travel demand, which is currently expected to start in June 2021, once the vast majority of Qantas’s domestic network has returned to pre-COVID levels. In the best-case scenario, the arrangement will assist Qantas Group in meeting an expected surge in local tourism demand once the country moves beyond sudden COVID-related border closures, the statement said.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, Qantas operates sixty B737-800s; while Alliance Airlines currently has three E190-100ARs, with twenty-seven to be delivered.
