WOW air’s first A330neo rolls out of paintshop

Iceland-based airline continues fleet modernisation

WOW air's first A330neo aircraft has rolled out of the paintshop in Toulouse. The low-fare airline based in Iceland will take delivery of the aircraft on lease from Avolon later in 2018, becoming the third operator of the type worldwide. WOW air is an all-Airbus operator with a fleet of 18 aircraft (15 A320 Family and three A330s). The Airbus fleet will increase to 24 aircraft by the end of 2018.

WOW air was founded in November 2011 and currently serves 36 destinations across Europe, North America and Asia. WOW air selected the A330neo for its low operating costs and excellent fuel efficiency. The aircraft will feature a twin-class cabin layout with 42 premium economy seats and 323 economy seats.

With over 1,700 orders, the A330 is the most popular widebody aircraft ever, having flown nearly one million annual flights. Today, close to 1,400 aircraft have been delivered to 118 customers worldwide on a wide range of routes, from domestic and regional flights to long-range intercontinental services. WOW air expands Barcelona capacity in S18

WOW air in summer 2018 season plans to increase capacity on Reykjavik Keflavik – Barcelona route, currently served by Airbus A320 aircraft. From 26MAR18, the airline will operate this route with Airbus A321 aircraft twice a week (Day 15), gradually increasing to 3 weekly (Day 135) from 16MAY18 (and 08OCT18 – 26OCT18), 4 weekly (Day x246) from 03JUN18.

The following schedule is effective 09JUL18 – 05OCT18. Operational schedule varies during certain periods in summer season.

WOWair W17 Miami service changes

Icelandic low-cost carrier WOWair in winter 2017/18 season is adjusting operational frequency for Reykjavik Keflavik – Miami route. The airline in winter season will operate 2 weekly flights, instead of 3 in summer season, effective 16NOV17. The airline will not be operating this route from 29OCT17 to 15NOV17.

WOW air takes delivery of its first A320neo

The Iceland-based airline to strengthen its all Airbus fleet

                            

WOW air the low-fare airline based in Iceland has taken delivery of its first A320neo on lease from Air Lease Corporation. WOW air is an all Airbus operator with 12 aircraft in its fleet to date.

WOW air selected the A320neo for its low operating costs and excellent fuel efficiency. The aircraft will feature a single-class cabin layout with 180 seats. The airline has chosen CFM engines to power the aircraft that will operate throughout Europe.






The A320neo Family is the world’s best-selling single aisle product line with over 5,000 orders received from over 90 customers, capturing almost 60 percent share of the market. The A320neo Family incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020.

The route will be flown on the airline’s 350-seat A330-200s three times weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) facing no direct competition. According to the airport, this is Miami’s first-ever service to Iceland. “Our residents now have non-stop services to the beautiful, historic city of Reykjavik, as well as to all the connecting flights that the city’s strategic location provides,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez in a statement. The low-cost long-haul carrier already serves Baltimore/Washington, Boston, Los Angeles, New York Newark and San Francisco in the US, along with Montreal and Toronto Pearson in Canada, all of which have been launched since 2015. In total WOW air now provides 45 weekly flights between Iceland and North America.

WOW air initiated fights to New York on 23 November, linking its Reykjavik/Keflavik hub with New York Newark .

The 4,175-kilometre sector will be flown by the LCC daily on its A321 fleet. The airport pairing of Keflavik and Newark is already served by Icelandair, with the national carrier of Iceland currently operating a four times weekly operation according to OAG schedules. Newark becomes WOW air’s fifth destination in the US after Baltimore/Washington, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, while it also serves Montreal and Toronto Pearson in Canada. The airline will further expand its North American network next year with the introduction of flights to Miami (5 April) and Pittsburgh (16 June).

Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW air yesterday (07NOV16) announced planned new US service for 2017, as the airline opened reservation for Reykjavik Keflavik – Pittsburgh route. Starting 16JUN17, the airline will serve this route 4 times a week, on board Airbus A321 aircraft.

On separate note, in the report published on 03NOV16, Airlineroute reported WOW air’s planned service to Brussels. In the original report, it was stated that Airbus A320 aircraft will operate this route, however the schedule listing in the GDS and OAG is displaying A321.

WOW air has begun service to the US West Coast. On 9 June, the LCC used one of its newly acquired A330-300s to begin five times weekly service from Reykjavik/Keflavik to San Francisco

The 6,745-kilometre route is not served by any other carrier. WOW air already serves Boston and Baltimore/Washington in the US, while Los Angeles flights begin this week. Skúli Mogensen, sole owner and CEO of WOW air, said: “I’m thrilled to be aboard the first WOW air flight to San Francisco, and to start connecting the beautiful American West Coast with Iceland and the rest of Europe at super low fares. WOW air adds maiden A330

WOW air (WW, Reykjavik Keflavik) has taken delivery of its first widebody jet, A330-300 EC-MIO (cn 1624) formerly in service with Air Europa (UX, Palma Son Sant Joan). Skyliner Aviation reports the jet was positioned to Reykjavik Keflavik from Cambridge after repainting on Tuesday, May 31.


A further two A330-300s are expected in due course including another ex-Air Europa A330-300, EC-MIN (cn 1607), and a former Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) machine, TF-GAY (cn 1098).

The trio of jets will be used in the Icelandic LCC's launch of longhaul flights to Los Angeles Int'l and San Francisco, CA later this summer.

The 3,726-kilometre sector will be served by the carrier four times weekly and be flown by its A321 fleet. WOW air announced its entry into the Canadian market in October 2015, at the same time tickets went on sale. "We've been so pleased with the demand that we made the decision to increase capacity on both of our Canadian routes," said Mogensen. "We are excited about the response to our super-low fares that start at $99 CDN, and will continue adding even more interesting destinations across Europe at great prices for Canadian travellers, which already includes cities such as Paris, Lyon, London and Frankfurt, to name a few."

There are now five flights per week servicing Montreal and six each week servicing Toronto.






Originally launched in November 2011, flights to Iceland and other European destinations will depart Toronto's Pearson (YYZ) and Montréal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau (YUL) via Reykjavik, offering travellers the cheapest connection between Europe and Canada. They will be operated using WOW air's fleet of new Airbus A321 Extended Range aircraft. The airline's Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 family of aircraft will carry passengers between Reykjavik and other European destinations.

Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering (GAMECO), which is based at China's Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, has completed painting works of WOW Air's first Airbus A330 aircraft.
WOW Air is set to take delivery of its first A330-300 aircraft from ICBC Leasing later this month, which will be used on its long-haul flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles in June 2016.

Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 772B engines-60, the A330-300 aircraft is configured with 340 seats in an all-economy layout. Seat pitch will vary from 30 inches as standard to 34 inches at an additional charge.

To sever its new North American routes, WOW Air will have three all-economy A330-300s in its fleet, with the second and third one pending delivery in June and July, the airline said previously.
It is worthnoting that the Reykjavik-based airline is known for taking a light-hearted approach to their aircraft registrations, referring to their fleet as a family, including TF-MOM, TF-DAD, TF-SIS, TF-BRO, TF-SON and TF-KID.

WOW Air's first A330 has an especially unique registration code - TF-GAY, in a nod to the Californian city's role in the LGBT rights movement.

Airline founder and CEO Skúli Mogensen said the naming of TF-GAY in support of the LGBT community aligns with the company's ethos. Mogensen revealed that the TF-GAY registration number was suggested by one of the airline's pilots.

WOW air commenced services between its Reykjavik/Keflavik (KEF) base and Gran Canaria (LPA) on 20 February.

The 4,041-kilometre sector will be flown by the carrier’s fleet of A321s according to OAG Schedules Analyser data, although the first flight was operated by one of the airline’s A320s (confirmed by Flightradar24.com data). WOW air will operate the sector between the two facilities weekly on Saturdays. The airport pair will face direct competition from Primera Air, which itself operates a weekly service. WOW air will launch further European services to Bristol, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Nice and Stockholm Västerås during the summer season.

WOW air to add A330s for US West Coast flights

WOW air (WW, Reykjavik Keflavik) has announced plans to source its first widebody aircraft needed for the upcoming launch of flights to the US West Coast.

Using three A330-300s, the Icelandic LCC plans to serve Los Angeles Int'l (4x weekly) and San Francisco, CA (5x weekly) from its Reykjavik Keflavik hub beginning summer of next year. The A330s will be configured with 340 seats in a single-class layout.

WOW air currently operates a fleet of three A320-200s and two A321-200 (sl)s on flights to both mainland Europe as well as Boston and Baltimore Thurgood Marshall in the United States. Toronto Pearson and Montréal Trudeau are expected to launch in May 2016.

WOW air added its second route to the US on 8 May, when it started four weekly flights to Baltimore/Washington from Reykjavik/Keflavik

On 8 May, Baltimore/Washington Airport greeted with the traditional water arch salute the arrival of WOW air’s four weekly flights from Reykjavik/Keflavik. The Icelandic LCC is also flying to Boston with five weekly departures.

The 4,434-kilometre sector that is served by the LCC’s 176-seat A320 will see a frequency increase to five times weekly starting on 4 June. WOW air is also serving the US market with five weekly departures to Boston. The Icelandic carrier will face no direct competition on its new addition. Commenting on the route launch, Paul J.
