Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has completed rectification of defects on all of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) regional aircraft operated by Mexico’s Interjet. The five aircraft that had remained grounded were released by January 10, SCAC said in a statement.

The defect had been detected on 11 out of Interjet’s 22 SSJ 100s. Works to restore the aircraft’s air worthiness began in December last year, and the first six aircraft returned to operation in the first week of January. The procedure was coordinated with Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency and monitored by the Mexican aviation authority, DGAC.

The Mexican carrier is the largest operator of Sukhoi Superjet 100 outside Russia. Dispatch reliability of Interjet’s fleet is among the highest for the type. Since the Russian aircraft entered service with Interjet in 2013, they performed over 75,000 flights, with total flight time in excess of 90,000 hours. Grounding half of the fleet caused problems to the airline’s operations.

Cracks in the lugs of the stabilizer upper and lower bracket attachment bands were detected during a planned inspection of SSJ 100s operated by Russian airline IrAero at the end of December, after which FATA issued an airworthiness directive stopping all aircraft of the type for checks. The entire fleet was inspected within several days by the aircraft’s OEM. SCAC assured that all of the defect units would be replaced before the end of January.

Interjet has expanded its US network with the introduction on 10 November of its third route to Las Vegas

The Mexican carrier has begun daily flights on the 2,425-kilometre route from Mexico City (MEX) using its A320s. Aeromexico with 20 weekly flights and Volaris with nine already link the two major cities. Interjet had previously launched flights to Las Vegas from Guadalajara (on 28 April 2016) and Monterrey (on 14 March 2013). The airline’s first ever service to Las Vegas from Toluca was launched in November 2012 but was suspended in May 2016. Interjet now has around 7% of the Mexico-US market as measured by seat capacity. This makes it the sixth biggest carrier in the market after American Airlines (21%), United Airlines (20%), Aeromexico (14%), Volaris (11%) and Delta Air Lines (8%). According to OAG data capacity between Mexico and the US has grown by 4% in the last 12 months. Interjet has expanded its network in the US by beginning a twice-daily service on 20 October between Mexico City and Los Angeles

The 2,498-kilometre route is already well served by Aeromexico (six daily flights), American Airlines (two daily flights), United Airlines and Volaris (each with one daily flight). Interjet already serves Los Angeles from Cancún and Guadalajara. According to OAG data for this week Interjet now accounts for 6.9% of seat capacity between the US and Mexico ranking it sixth behind American Airlines (21.6%), United Airlines (19.2%), Aeromexico (15.1%), Volaris (10.5%) and Delta Air Lines (8.1%). In total Interjet now operates 16 routes to the US; seven from Mexico City and three each from Cancún, Guadalajara and Monterrey.

BOC Aviation Delivers First of Three New Airbus A321 Aircraft to Interjet

On 3 March, Interjet became the latest carrier to begin services at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport in Texas with the start of double-daily flights to Mexico City. The Mexican carrier will compete head-to-head with Aeromexico and American Airlines on 1,508-kilometre route.

• Interjet has added Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to its US network with the launch on 3 March of a 12 times weekly service from its main base at Mexico City (MEX). The 1,508-kilometre route will be flown by the airline’s Superjet 100s and will face direct competition from American Airlines (five daily flights) and Aeromexico (11 weekly flights). Speaking at the route launch, Sean Donohue, CEO, DFW Airport, said: “DFW welcomes Interjet as our newest airline. As travel to Mexico continues to flourish and now represents just over 40% of DFW’s international passenger travel, there’s an even stronger need to provide choices that accommodate flexible schedules and varied price points. Interjet offers travellers low-fare flights to exciting destinations, and DFW is pleased to now be part of that network.” Jose Luis Ramirez Magnani, Deputy Chairman of Interjet, added: “This new route helps to increase tourism and business opportunities between Mexico City and one of the largest and most visited metropolitan areas in Texas. Interjet has expanded its route network in Cuba with the launch of two new routes on 15 October

It now offers twice-weekly (Thursdays and Sundays) flights on the 1,868-kilometre route from Mexico City (MEX) to Varadero (VRA) and four times weekly flights on the 1,815-kilometre route from Monterrey (MTY) to Havana (HAV). According to flightradar24.com the first flight on the new Havana route departed almost an hour late from Monterrey. Both routes will be operated by the airline’s SSJ 100s and neither route is currently served. The airline has been serving Havana from Mexico City since August 2011

Fifth Sukhoi Superjet 100 delivered to Interjet

The fifth Sukhoi Superjet 100 landed in Mexico on February 2, 2014 to join Interjet SSJ100 fleet.

The aircraft (MNS 95034) was rolled out from SuperJet International’s hangar in Venice (Italy) and took off from Venice Marco Polo airport for the ferry flight to Interjet facilities in Toluca (Mexico).

During its ferry flight, the aircraft stopped in Keflyavik (Iceland) and Bangor (Maine, USA), showing once more its outstanding performance on longer range routes.

Starting from the Entry Into Service in September 18, 2013, the first four Interjet SSJ100s have showed an outstanding performance with over 99% dispatch reliability and an average daily utilization of 9 flight hours.

So far the aircraft in service accumulated over 2500 flight hours through 7 destinations in Mexico (Mexico City, Torreon, Aguascalientes, Campeche, Minatitlan, Zacatecas and Mazatlan).

In the meantime the sixth and the seventh aircraft to be delivered to Interjet are currently under completion at SuperJet International’s plant in Italy.

First SSJ100 delivered to Mexican Airline Interjet

On the occasion of the 50th International Paris airshow SuperJet International (SJI) – joint venture between Alenia Aermacchi (a Finmeccanica Company) and Sukhoi Holding (a UAC Company) – has delivered to the Mexican airline Interjet its first Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft.

With an order for 20 aircraft plus 10 options, Interjet is the first western customer to take delivery of the SSJ100.



The aircraft has been presented for the first time at Le Bourget with its exclusive interiors designed by Pininfarina in a 93-seats (34’ pitch) configuration, in accordance with Interjet high standards for passengers’ comfort. The SSJ100 is a 100-seat state-of-the-art regional jet, which incorporates the most modern Western technology and is powered by two PowerJet’s SaM146 engines.

The SSJ100 aircraft, developed and built by the Russian Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) in partnership with Alenia Aermacchi, was painted, completed and customized at the SuperJet International facilities in Venice, Italy.

The programme has been financed with the support of Export Agencies of Italy, France and Russia. Namely SACE, COFACE and VEB/EXIAR granted a proactive approach towards this important transaction which paved the way of the SSJ100 to the western market.



The Sukhoi Superjet 100 currently represents the most important industrial programme between the Russian Federation and Europe in the commercial aircraft sector.

Interjet receives its first SSJ100

On July 22nd 2013 Interjet received its first SSJ100, which arrived at the airline’s operational Headquarters in Toluca, Mexico. With this new aircraft, featuring Mexican registry XA-JLG, Interjet will strengthen its network to make the country more competitive in tourism and business.

The SSJ100 of Interjet was presented for the first time at the International Paris Airshow at Le Bourget, the largest exhibition for the global aviation industry.

The aircraft offers the highest standards of quality and comfort available in commercial aviation worldwide. Interjet chose a 93-seats (34’ pitch) configuration, in accordance with the airline’s high standards for passenger comfort. The exclusive interior features were designed by Pininfarina. Compared to other aircraft used to serve the domestic routes in Mexico, the SSJ100 offers wider seats.

“With this new aircraft passengers will take advantage of lower tickets cost deriving from the SSJ100 operational efficiency, which makes fares more competitive,” said Interjet CEO, Jose Luis Garza.

The SSJ100 is a regional jet which incorporates the most modern Western technology, also equipped with cameras and screens for on-board tv programs, as well as a toilet reserved for ladies.

Interjet plans to put the SSJ100 into service very soon, after performing a mandatory certificatio campaign, which requires 100 flight hours according to the Aeronautical Authorities of Mexico. Anyhow, the aircraft has already achieved all the authorizations required by European and U.S. authorities for commercial flights.

In the last two weeks, Interjet opened 10 domestic and international routes that depart from the Mexico City International Airport to Aguascalientes, Campeche, La Paz, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Minatitlan, Reynosa, Torreon and Zacatecas, in Mexico and to Bogota, in Colombia.

The SSJ100 will complement Interjet current Airbus A320 fleet, focusing initially on domestic routes. But the airline plans to use the SSJ100 to add new destinations in Central America and the Caribbean.

With an order for 20 aircraft plus 10 options, Interjet is the first western customer to put into service the SSJ100. The second aircraft is to be delivered very soon.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 gets Interjet livery

The first Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) with Interjet colours was rolled out today from the SuperJet International’s paint hangar in Venice (Italy).

The aircraft, Manufacture Serial Number 95023, is the first aircraft to be delivered to the Mexican carrier Interjet, which is the launch customer in the western market. In total Interjet ordered 20 SSJ100 aircraft in a 93 seats configuration.

The livery features white and blue stripes according to the customer’s paint scheme. Activities on the aircraft are undergoing to deliver the first Interjet SSJ100 by spring 2013.

The second SSJ100 for Interjet, MSN 95024, has also arrived in Venice to commence the completion activities.

In the meantime the new Full Flight Simulator (FFS) is being certified at the SJI Training Center in Venice to enable the Mexican carrier’s pilots to start training at the beginning of March.

The SSJ100 is a state-of-the-art 100-seat regional jet developed and built by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC), in partnership with Alenia Aermacchi. The aircraft is a competitive product in terms of low fuel consumption, low operating costs and maximum comfort.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is currently the most important industrial program between the Russian Federation and Europe in the field of the civil aviation.

Interjet signs purchase agreement for 40 A320neo

Mexican airline latest in Latin America to select world’s best selling aircraft
Mexican low-cost carrier and all-Airbus operator Interjet signed a purchase agreement for 40 A320neo aircraft. Interjet will announce the aircraft’s engine selection at a later date. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality making it an easy fit for Interjet’s fleet of 36 A320s. Later this month, Interjet will receive an additional A320 aircraft.

In only seven years of operations, Interjet has become a leading domestic airline in Mexico, having quickly expanded their network throughout the country and into the United States, Central America and the Caribbean. The new A320neo will support their continued network expansion and fleet renewal plans. Interjet has a backlog of 45 A320 Family aircraft, including today’s order.

“Adding the newest aircraft technology to our already young and efficient A320 fleet will allow us to operate some of the most cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly equipment available in aviation,” said Interjet Chairman Miguel Aleman Velasco.
