Tunisair outlines leased A330-300 network in S19

Tunisair last week introduced leased Airbus A330-300 aircraft to support its operation, with the configuration of C30Y277. Planned A330-300 operation as follows.

Tunisair 737-600 emerges in retro scheme

Tunisian flag-carrier Tunisair has unveiled a retro livery on one of the airline’s Boeing 737-600s.

The carrier has displayed the ‘Tunis Air’ colour scheme adorning the jet (TS-IOP) in a hangar, through its official social media feed.

This design was carried on aircraft in the 1950s, early in the airline’s development, and reflects the influence of then-shareholder Air France.

Tunisair has been marking its 70th anniversary this year with various promotional activities.

Flight Fleets Analyzer lists the retro airframe as MSN29500, delivered new to the airline in 2000.

Tunisair eyes A330neo, C-Series for int'l growth

Tunisair (TU, Tunis) is set to order A330neo from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and, pending shareholder approval, C-Series jets from Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) as part of the majority state-owned carrier's international growth plans.

In an interview with Forbes magazine, CEO Elyes Mnakbi said the order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) would see three A330neo delivered in 2019 and three in 2020. There is also the possibility of including three optioned aircraft although this is subject to confirmation.

The C-Series order would likely number "two or three aircraft", he said, depending on government approval. Products from Embraer are also under consideration.
Tunisair currently operates four A319-100s, seventeen A320-200s, two A330-200s, and seven B737-600s with five A320neo due for delivery by the end of the decade. According to Mnakbi, the A330s will be retained in service until their 12-year leases expire. An order for a third was dropped.

As previously reported, Tunisair plans to develop Tunis into an intercontinental hub focusing on funnelling traffic between Africa, Europe, and North America.

Concerning Europe, the North African state's long-awaited Open Skies agreement with the European Union (EU) is due to be signed on December 11. The treaty will cover all Tunisian airports with the exception of Tunis for the time being.

Tunisair suspends all operations

Tunisair (TU, Tunis) has suspended all operations until further notice. A statement issued to the AFP news agency says the move comes amid growing "tensions" between the airline's pilot corps and technicians which culminated in physical clashes at Tunis Carthage International Airport on the morning of Thursday, March 9.

Tunisair added that it had suspended all flights "in order to preserve the safety of its fleet".
"Due to new tensions between two Tunisair trade unions and the altercation this morning at Tunis-Carthage, the company has decided to stop all flights until further notice," it said.

Tunisair commenced service between Tunis (TUN) and Montreal (YUL) on 16 June.

Although the 3,993-kilometre route was launched on a Thursday, the twice-weekly operation will regularly be flown on Wednesdays and Sundays according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. Operated on the carrier’s 266-seat A330-200s, the city pair will face no direct competition. Montreal becomes the carrier’s only destination in North America. Looking at the airline’s schedules data, its other A330-200 routes are Algiers, Paris Orly, Jeddah and Madinah.

Tunisair (TU, Tunis) has offered its four B737-500s and three A300-600s for sale in an international tender earlier this week. The tender also includes ATR42-300 TS-LBA (c/n 245) that had last been operated by Tunisair subsidiary Sevenair (UG, Tunis) but has already been retired prior to Sevenair’s rebranding to Tunisair Express (UG, Tunis).

Tunisair takes delivery of its first A330-200

The airline continues the development of its fleet with the introduction of this new type of aircraft

On the occasion of the visit by Tunisia’s Minister of Transport, Mahmoud Ben Romdhane to Toulouse, Tunisia’s national airline, Tunisair, took delivery of its first A330-200 in Toulouse on 9 June, thus becoming a new operator of this type of aircraft.

Named “Tunis”, the wide-body aircraft flew out from Toulouse and landed at Tunis-Carthage Airport in the evening, thus joining the airline’s existing fleet of Airbus aircraft comprising four A319s and seventeen A320s.

Boasting an entirely new, fully equipped cabin, Tunisair’s A330-200 will offer its passengers greater comfort, more space, Wi-Fi connectivity and the very latest-generation in-flight entertainment system. The new Tunisair cabin can accommodate 24 passengers in business class and 242 in economy class.

“I am extremely happy to welcome the A330-200 to our fleet, its unique profitability and unrivalled operating costs will allow us to develop our operations and win new market shares, thus supporting our country’s growth in the areas of tourism and economic development,” said Sara Rejeb, President and Chief Operating Officer of Tunisair, during this ceremony held at the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse.

“We are delighted to welcome Tunisair among the A330 operators, the number of which never ceases to grow,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “The A330’s winning combination of efficiency, operational reliability and comfort will perfectly serve Tunisair’s ambitious plans for growth”, he added.

More than 1,100 aircraft of this type are already flying with more than 100 operators worldwide. Tunisair outlines planned A330, transatlantic operations

Tunisair will commence A330-200s operations with effect from June 2, 2015 ch-aviation schedule data has revealed. Earlier this year, managing director, Salwa Sghaïer, said cn 1631 and cn 1641 would arrive from Airbus Industrie in May and June of next year with a third due later on.

Initial destinations will include Dubai Int'l, Jeddah, Dakar, Istanbul Atatürk, Nouakchott, Paris Orly, and Montréal Trudeau.
