Ruili Airlines applies to open international routes

China’s low-cost carrier (LCC) Ruili Airlines has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to open international routes.

Launched in 2004, the Kunming-based LCC operates 11 aircraft on 26 domestic routes with 66 daily departures. The carrier plans to expand its fleet to 40 aircraft by 2020 and to 80 by 2025.

In July 2016, Ruili finalized an order for six Boeing787-9s, paving the way for international expansion as China’s outbound passenger traffic continues to grow.



Industry analysts noted domestic carriers have reported declining yields on international routes resulting from overcapacity as more carriers open international routes—especially on service from Chinese secondary cities including Kunming, Xi’an and Xiamen. An industry source told ATW, “2017 would be a life and death year for these new intercontinental routes.”

Ruili Airlines (DR, Kunming Changshui) says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) for the purchase of six B787-9s at a ceremony for the airline's two-year anniversary.

The order is subject to the approval from the Chinese government, with AVIC International Leasing providing financial support.

Founded in 2013, the privately-owned carrier operates six B737-700s and three B737-800s on regular flights to sixteen destinations across China. It ordered thirty B737 MAX aircraft from Boeing in June last year.

Ruili Airlines took delivery of two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Kunming Changshui International Airport on May 15.

China's start-up carrier Ruili Airlines took delivery of two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Kunming Changshui International Airport on May 15, bringing its fleet size to nine.

The new 737-800s, Registration B-7866 and B-7865, are configured with an all-economy-class layout with 144 seats. Featured with modern technologies, it will offer more space, lower noise and more comfort for passengers.
Currently, Ruili Airlines operates 46 daily flights from Kunming to 20 domestic cities with a fleet of six 737-700s and three 737-800s. According to its development plan, the start-up carrier will expand its fleet to56 aircraft by the end of 2025.

Ruili Airlines to Expand Fleet to 56 by the End of 2025

China's start-up carrier Ruili Airlines (DR) is expected to own a fleet of 56 aircraft by the end of 2025, said Ma Zhanwei, president of Ruili Airlines in an interview on Aug. 31.

As of Aug. 31, 2015, Ruili Airlines operates six aircraft in total, consisting of five Boeing 737-700s and one 737-800. One new aircraft is scheduled to take delivery by this year end.

Now the Kunming-based airline operates 34 flights daily on 12 domestic routes to 17 destinations, covering Yunnan, Sichuan, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Hubei, Guangxi provinces, Tianjin and Chongqing. Since its maiden flight on May 18, 2014, Ruili Airlines has served over 10 thousand flights and over 12.5 million passengers and achieved over 900 million yuan in revenue, accounting 3.4% market share in Yunnan Province.

What's more, the airlines took the top spot in passenger load factor (PLF) and revenue per ASK among five base airlines at Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG). Its PLF stood at 88.32%, 2.04 percentage points higher than the average level of 86.28%.

Boeing Delivers First Direct Purchase 737-700 to Ruili Airlines Efficiency of 737 supports the new start-up carrier's growth

KUNMING, China, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Ruili Airlines today celebrated the arrival of the airline's first direct purchase Next-Generation 737-700. Ruili is a newly established private airline based at Changshui International Airport in Kunming, the capital city of China's Yunnan province.

Known for its reliability, fuel efficiency and economical performance, the 737-700 has been selected by leading carriers throughout the world, and has contributed more than 1,200 orders to the strong success of Next-Generation 737 family orders.

Ruili Airlines obtained its public air transport enterprise business license from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in February 2014, marking the formal establishment of the carrier. The start-up airline is the first private carrier approved by CAAC after the regulator relaxed restrictions on new carriers in 2013. According to its development plan, Ruili Airlines plans to increase its fleet to 30 Boeing airplanes by 2020, with around 120 daily flights on 60 to 70 routes.

Fourth Boeing 737-700 Airliner to Join Ruili Airlines in Late November

China's Ruili Airlines has operated safely for over five months since it made its inaugural flight on May 18, 2014.

In the past five months, Ruili Airlines has launched 7 routes with a fleet of three aircraft, offering 20 flights to 10 destinations in 8 provinces including Yunnan, Guangxi, Shaanxi, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, and carrying over 2,500 passengers every day.
Ruili Airlines is expected to increase its fleet to 24 aircraft by 2020, with around 120 flights daily on 60 to 70 routes.

The airline was given permission to launch flights from Kunming earlier this year, and has now started its expansion with an agreement to buy 18 narrow-body aircraft from Boeing and airberlin.
This year, Ruili expects to take delivery of eight Boeing 737-700s and six B737-800s from the US planemaker, plus two B737-700s from airberlin. It then expects to receive another two B737-800s from the German airline next year. It will operate the aircraft from Kunming’s Changshui International Airport
