FLEET - FlySafair will add two more Boeing 737-800 aircraft, previously operated by China carrier Hainan Airlines, bringing its fleet to 40 Boeing 737s.

The airline has also ordered three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with delivery scheduled for 2028.

The airline dominates the main domestic routes in South Africa, connecting Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London and George with high-frequency services and competitive prices. Its growing regional network now reaches destinations such as Mauritius, Zanzibar, Harare, Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Lusaka

 

ORDER - Hainan Airlines Holding orders 40 A320neo

Hainan Airlines Holding has placed an order with Airbus for forty A320neo family narrowbodies, without disclosing which of its airlines will operate the aircraft. 

Deliveries are scheduled between 2028 and 2032. 

Besides Hainan Airlines, other group carriers which already operate A320neo family aircraft include Lucky Air (China), GX Airlines, West Air (China), and Capital Airlines (China).

FLEET - Hainan Airlines Takes Delivery of First Airbus A330-900

The carrier will be the first operator of the A330neo in China,

The delivered aircraft, registered as B-32MU, is configured with 24 business class seats and 277 economy class seats.

Hainan Airlines currently operates a fleet of first-generation A330s, including 22 A330-300s and five A330-200s.

FLEET / ORDER - Hainan Airlines (China) is moving toward a potential acquisition of 20 A330-900s, after it filed an announcement to purchase 20 galleys from Safran

Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou) is preparing to acquire up to twenty A330-900Ns. While there is no official announcement about any aircraft order, a March 29, 2024, Hainan Airlines Holding stock market filing details a multi-million dollar spend at Safran Cabins Germany GmbH to assemble galley kitchen equipment for the aircraft type.
"The company plans to purchase 20 sets of aircraft cabin kitchen equipment from Safran to assemble the company's A330-900 aircraft," the filing reads. "The transaction amount shall not exceed USD23.592 million."
Hainan Airlines is an existing operator of the A330 family type, albeit the A330-200 and A330-300, with nine and 20 of each type, respectively. When confirmed, the order will be the first of significance since the Liaoning Fangda Group Industrial Group acquired Hainan Airlines in late 2021 after the former owner, HNA Group, filed for bankruptcy.
In addition to the A330s, Hainan Airlines operates a single A350-900, fourteen B737-8s, 135 B737-800s, ten B787-8s, and twenty-eight B787-9s. According to the ch-aviation PRO airlines module, the carrier flies to 119 airports in 26 countries.
In a recent profit forecast, Hainan Airlines Holdings said the civil aviation market, including the Chinese domestic market, is recovering strongly. While not explicitly addressing prospective orders, the filing said the airline would actively work to seize market opportunities and expand capacity.

Hainan Airlines, second Chinese airline to resume 737 MAX flights

Hainan Airlines on Wednesday resumed operations with the Boeing 737 MAX, marking the second commercial service of the model by a Chinese airline since its grounding in March 2019.

The domestic flight took off from Haikou, capital of China’s southern Hainan province, at 09.23 local time bound for the southwestern city of Kunming, according to flight-tracking app VariFlight.
