Myanmar's APEX secures AOC, begins scheduled operations

APEX Airlines commenced scheduled operations on Tuesday, April 7 having secured its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Department of Civil Aviation of Myanmar late last month.

At present, the carrier operates XY-AJV (cn 1229), an ATR 72-600 which it has leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) to serve Dawe, Kawthaung, Myeik, and Naypyitaw from its Yangon hub.

According to APEX's chief operations officer Selva Kumar, the carrier's second aircraft will arrive between June and July while a third is due between September and October. The additional capacity will be used to expand the network to include Sittwe, Myitkyina, Mandalay, Nyaung-u, Thandwe, and Heho.

APEX Airlines plans March launch with ATR72-600

APEX Airlines is planning to take delivery of its first ATR72-600 later this month. Using the first aircraft it plans to go through certification and get its air operator certificate in February in time for launch of domestic scheduled operations by March.

Myanma startup, APEX Airlines, to serve Myanmar, SE Asia

APEX Airlines is a Myanma start-up backed by the Apex Group of Companies.


The carrier intends to serve Myeik, Mandalay, Heho, Yangon, Dawe, Nyaung-u, and Kawthaung domestically as well as Singapore Changi, Kuala Lumpur Int'l and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi regionally. No official word on equipment has been issued though it is believed ATR72-500s and A319-100s or A320-200s will be used.
