Arizona's Mesa Airlines ends CRJ700 operations

 

Mesa Airlines (YV, Phoenix Sky Harbor) has concluded CRJ700 Srs 701ER operations on behalf of

United Airlines and will proceed to lease all 20 aircraft of the type to GoJet Airlines (G7, St. Louis

Lambert Int'l) for a revised period of nine, rather than seven, years.

The carrier said in its quarterly results for the period ended December 31, 2020, that all eight of the

remaining CRJ700s at that time would be retired by the end of March 2021. The last flight of the type

was operated from Portland Int'l Jetport to Washington Dulles on February 9, 2021, by N508MJ (msn

10087), Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. Mesa subsequently ferried the aircraft to Tucson Int'l, where

it joined sixteen previously retired units of the type. Another two are currently stored at St. Louis

Lambert Int'l and one at Washington Dulles airport, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows.

Under the terms of the agreement announced in December 2019 and thus predating the COVID-19

pandemic, Mesa Airlines has been replacing the CRJ700s on a parity basis with ERJ 170-200LLs.

However, due to current reduced demand, it has partially accelerated the phase-out of the CRJ700s

and retired them even though four of the twenty E175s remain to be delivered in the second quarter of

2021.

"[The CRJ700s] will be leased to GoJet Airlines for a nine-year term that was previously announced as

a seven-year term. We are retraining most of the current CRJ700 pilots in Washington Dulles on the

E175," Chief Operating Officer Brad Rich said during an earnings call.

Mesa Airlines owns all twenty CRJ700s. The aircraft are 17.1 years old on average.

Following the completion of the deliveries of the twenty E175LLs, Mesa Airlines will operate a total of

eighty E175s for United, including sixty ERJ 170-200LRs. The airline also operates fifty-four CRJ900s

for American Airlines and two B737-400(F)s under a contract with DHL Express.

In a separate announcement following its quarterly earnings, the carrier said it would lease a third

B737-400(F) for operations on behalf of DHL, with delivery set for May 2021. Mesa Airlines did not

disclose its identity or lessor. Its first two B737-400(F)s are leased from Vx Capital Partners, the chaviation

SkyWest Airlines to add 7 CRJ700s for American ops

SkyWest Airlines (United States of America) (OO, Salt Lake City) has said in its quarterly earnings release that it will add seven used CRJ700s to operate them under a multi-year contract with American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) starting in early 2020.

The contract covers ten CRJ700s in total. SkyWest will source the other three units internally as it upgauges its operations on behalf of Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) from CRJ700s to CRJ900s.

According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, SkyWest Airlines currently operates 103 CRJ700s, of which sixty-three are operated on behalf of American Airlines under the American Eagle brand. SkyWest also operates twenty-one CRJ700s under the Delta Connection brand. The remaining units are operated for United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) as United Express.

In terms of its agreement with Delta, SkyWest Airlines said it expected to remove four CRJ900s in 2020 and to return those aircraft to the lessor. It plans to add four more E175s for the Delta contract in mid-2020, as well as one CRJ900 in the third quarter of 2019 and eight such jets in 2020. The Embraers will be financed by SkyWest itself, while the CRJs will be financed by Delta.

"SkyWest expects to remove a used CRJ700 from its contract with Delta as each of these CRJ900 financed by Delta is placed into service," the airline said.

SkyWest currently operates forty-two CRJ900s and 151 E175s, as well as three CRJ100s and 184 CRJ200s.

During the quarterly investor call, the carrier said that the acquisition of the CRJ programme from Bombardier Aerospace by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was an "important development".

"We're certainly disappointed that the production line is closing down... This is something that we look forward to working with Mitsubishi going forward and finding some new ways to develop this fleet into our existing fleet and just work within the parameters that they have with also their new aircraft as well," CEO Russell Childs said.

Slovenia's Adria Airways commences CRJ-700 operations

Adria Airways  will deploy its maiden CRJ-700 into service this week.

The aircraft already flew a first rotation from Ljubljana to Frankfurt on March 29.
According to schedule data, S5-AAZ (cn 10014), on lease from Lufthansa CityLine will be used on flights from Ljubljana to Brussels National, Frankfurt Int'l, Munich, Paris CDG, Podgorica, Prague, Pristina, Sarajevo, Skopje, Tirana, Vienna, Warsaw Chopin, and Zurich.

Slovenia's Adria Airways to start Munich - Bratislava flights

Adria Airways will expand its Munich operations with flights to Bratislava later this summer EX-YU Aviation News reports. The flights will compliment the Slovenian carrier's Munich operations which include Ljubljana, Lodz, and Pristina.

Though still not officially confirmed, it is believed the routes will be operated using a CRJ-700, D-ACPK (cn 10063), on lease from Lufthansa CityLine.

Lufthansa CityLine begins phasing out its CRJ-700 fleet

Lufthansa CityLine  has reportedly begun with the gradual phasing out of their CRJ-700 fleet. The nineteen-strong fleet has already seen D-ACPA (c/n 10012), D-ACPD (10015) and D-ACPG (10034) withdrawn from active service. The German carrier will still continue to operate Bombardier metal, however, in the form of twelve CRJ-900s.
