FLEET - Air Senegal has defined a strategy for the gradual acquisition of 15 Boeing aircraft by 2035

The first phase will add six B737NG aircraft and one B737F from March 2026, with the objective of having a fully owned and managed fleet by 2H 2026.

West African airline will purchase nine 737-8 jets for regional, international expansion Air Senegal to place first Boeing order in more than 20 years


DUBAI, UAE, Nov. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and Air Senegal announced today the West African carrier has committed to order nine 737 MAX airplanes. When final, the 737 MAX order will be the airline's largest-ever fleet purchase – and first Boeing airplane order since 2004 – as it looks to expand service regionally and internationally.

With the introduction of the 737-8 to its single-aisle fleet, Air Senegal will expand its network in Europe and launch new routes from Dakar to the Middle East and Americas. The 737 MAX will also enable Air Senegal to serve secondary European cities, allowing fliers to save time bypassing major hubs.

"This acquisition marks a major milestone for Air Sénégal," said chief executive officer Tidiane Ndiaye. "This order is part of Air Sénégal's strategy to strengthen and modernize its fleet in order to support
the expansion of its regional and intercontinental network and reinforce Dakar's position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa."

The 737-8 can carry up to 178 passengers in a two-class configuration or fly up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km).
Air Senegal will benefit from the airplane's operational efficiency as it reduces fuel use and emissions 20% and creates a 50% smaller noise footprint compared to the airplanes it replaces.

The 737-8 airplane is well-suited to meet Africa's rising air travel demand, which has been fueled by economic development and a young and growing population.

FLEET - Air Senegal’ wet leased one A340-300, serial 646, from USC for use on the Dakar-Paris route, as its own A330neo undergoes maintenance.

 

FLEET - Air Sénégal takes first two Let 410NGs

 The L 410 NG has a new African customer. It is Senegal, which has ordered a total of five aircraft, with the first two already departing today. This is an important milestone for the OMNIPOL Group and our company.

Today at eight o'clock in the morning, the first two planes took off on their way to a new customer in Senegal They are facing a route of over 5000 km with 4 stopovers.

The planes will fly in the colors of the country's largest state carrier, Air Senegal. "Last year we penetrated the markets in Central Asia with our aircraft, today we are also strengthening our position in the African market " says Jiří Podpěra, President of the OMNIPOL.

Compared to the older L 410 UVP-E20 model, the L 410 NG offers improved flight parameters and operational characteristics, as well as more modern technologies and innovative avionics. In particular, it has a longer range and can carry 500 kilograms more cargo. The luggage compartment has also been doubled.

The aircraft is completely constructed in Aircraft Industries, with the involvement of 617 Czech companies in its production. Just for fun - 13,000 parts, 15,000 screws, 15,000 meters of cables and 180,000 rivets are needed to make one machine!

FLEET - Air Sénégal to retire ATR72-600s

Air Sénégal has expressed its intention to sell its ATR72-600s with immediate availability.

6V-AMS (msn 1447) and 6V-ASN (msn 1452) are 2017 models and both have been operated by the Senegalese airline since new. The first retired from fiscal service at the end of November 2023 and has been parked for maintenance at Ben Slimane in Morocco since 1 December 2023. The second remains active, flying scheduled regional services from Dakar Blaise Diagne International,

The ATR – Avions de Transport Régional turboprops are the only aircraft in this market group operated by Air Sénégal. The state airline's fleet also includes inactive A220-300s, A319-100s, A321-200s and A330-900s, as well as A330-200s and A340-300s leased with crew from Hi Fly Malta. and a B737-500 chartered with crew from Transair (Senegal).

 

Air Senegal cancels A220-leases

According to Italian aviation news site ItaliaVola, Air Senegal has decided to cancel its lease-agreement with Macquarie AirFinance for five Airbus A220-300s. The reason for the cancellation is the continuous grounding of its single A220 and the late delivery of two new A220-300s, which were scheduled to occur in December last year. The late delivery and grounding of its single aircraft of the type is due to issues with the Pratt & Whitney PW1100 Geard Turbo Fan-engines.

Although issues with the engines have been resolved according to Pratt & Whitney, supply chain restraints prevent a quick upgrade to already produced engines. Air Senegal is not the only customer impacted by these engine issues. KLM cityhopper, for instance, has seven of its fifteen Embraer E195-E2s grounded, which use the same type of engines as the Airbus.

Air Senegal took delivery of its first, and now most likely, A220-300 on 27 December 2021. Now, the aircraft, registered 6V-AOA (55089), has been parked at the airline's base at Dakar since 19 November of last year.

The airline is now considering its options and is actively considering the Embraer E195-E2, although is wary of this option due to the similar engines, as well as that it has less range than the A220-300.

Air Senegal has a fleet, next to its single A220, consisting of two ATR72-600s, two A319s, two A321s (both parked), and two A330-900s.

Air Senegal launched three-weekly flights to Marseille Provence from Dakar on 12 December, with an onwards flight to Barcelona El Prat

Marseille services will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with A330-900s, with the extra Barcelona leg operating twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. No other carrier serves this routing, which in the past year saw 152,000 passengers travel between Marseille/Barcelona and Dakar. The route will be fed by several cities under two hours from Dakar, with two-way connectivity including Abidjan and Bamako. Such regional connectivity will be strengthened if Air Senegal firms its MoU for eight Airbus A220-300s.

Air Senegal to grow its fleet with eight A220s

Air Senegal, the new national carrier of Senegal, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for eight A220-300 aircraft.

The MoU was signed today in the presence of HE Alioune SARR, Minister of Tourism and Transport Senegal.

The A220s’ efficiency will enable Air Senegal to reduce the airline’s operating costs while offering passengers unrivalled comfort throughout its fleet. Earlier in 2019, the carrier was the first African airline to fly Airbus’ new generation widebody aircraft, the A330neo, featuring latest technology engines, new wings with enhanced aerodynamics and a curved wingtip design, drawing best practices from the A350 XWB.

Mr Ibrahima Kane Air Senegal CEO said: “These new 220 aircrafts will contribute to develop our long-haul network to Europe and our regional network in Africa. Combined with our recent A330neo aircraft, this new Airbus fleet reveals Air Senegal’s ambition to offer the best travel experience for our passengers.”

The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market; it delivers unbeatable fuel efficiency and widebody passenger comfort in a single-aisle aircraft. The A220 brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G geared turbofan engines to offer at least 20 percent lower fuel burn per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, along with significantly lower emissions and a reduced noise footprint. The A220 offers the performance of larger single-aisle aircraft. By the end of October 2019 the A220 had accumulated 530 orders.

Air Senegal A330neo pays visit to future home

Air Senegal’s first Airbus A330-900 has returned to Toulouse following a brief stopover in the African state ahead of the aircraft’s delivery.

The Rolls-Royce Trent 7000-powered aircraft, MSN1910, was flown from Toulouse to Dakar on 31 January, a route of some 2,000nm, as part of a ceremonial event attended by Senegalese president Macky Sall.

It has been configured with a 290-seat interior in three cabins featuring 32 business-class, 21 premium-economy, and 237 economy-class seats.

Airbus says the airline will take delivery of the A330neo “in the coming weeks” and that it will deploy the jet on the Dakar-Paris route.

Air Sénégal commences flight operations

Air Sénégal(HC, Dakar Blaise Diagne Int'l) has announced it will shortly commence regular flight operations.
Having secured its AOC last month, the state-owned carrier said in a statement it would offer a daily return service between Dakar Blaise Diagne Int'l and the riparian town of Ziguinchor effective Monday, May 14. Operations are onboard its ATR72-600 turboprops.

Other destinations expected to launch in the coming months include Banjul, Praia, Nouakchott, and Bissau.

Air Senegal firms A330neo order

Air Sénégal (SZN, Dakar Blaise Diagne Int'l) has firmed up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) in November last year, for the order of two A330-900s. The aircraft are due to deliver in 2019 and will be used to develop the nascent state-owned carrier's medium- and long-haul network.

Air Senegal is preparing to complete its certification and launch operations using a pair of ATR72-600s, delivered late last year and currently in storage at Dakar Blaise Diagne Int'l.
