Sky High launches scheduled US ops

Sky High Aviation Services (DO, Santo Domingo Las Américas) has launched its first scheduled route to the United States, connecting Santo Domingo Las Américas with Miami Int'l as of December 13.
The Dominican Republic carrier plans to operate the route 6x weekly using its E190 aircraft. The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that it operates two units of the type, both ex-Air Astana units owned by TrueNoord and registered on Aruba's 'P4-' register. With 8,024 scheduled weekly one-way seats, the Santo Domingo-Miami route is the third-busiest service connecting the Dominican Republic and the US, after flights from New York JFK to each of Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.
The airline also plans to launch its second US route, to Providence. According to its internet booking engine, it will serve the Rhode Island city 2x weekly, although tickets are not currently bookable. When it launches the flights, it will become the only airline operating direct services between Providence and the Dominican Republic. However, it has yet to obtain regulatory approval for the route.
Thus far, Sky High Aviation Services has focused on serving the Caribbean and Caracas Simón Bolivar. Besides the two E190s, it also operates two E145s and plans to add two E175s in 2023-2024. The carrier has been authorised to operate aircraft without size restriction to the US since July 2022. It received an exemption and an updated US Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP), allowing it to ply scheduled services from the Dominican Republic only to Miami and Tampa Int'l on December 12, 2022.

Sky High Receives the First of Two Embraer E190s

Sky High Aviation, an airline based in the Dominican Republic, has taken delivery of its first Embraer E190 passenger jet - becoming the only E-Jet operator based in the Caribbean. The first of two E190s being provided by regional aircraft lessor, TrueNoord, arrived last week at Las Americas José Francisco Peña Gómez airport after transition works were completed at Embraer's MRO facility in Macon, Georgia, USA. The second E190 is to be delivered to Sky High this month. The addition of the E190s will bring a new level of comfort for passengers and open new international routes from the region. Sky High currently operates a fleet of two 50 seater Embraer ERJ 145s flying to 10 island destinations in the Caribbean. The E190s have been configured in a comfortable dual-class layout with 98 seats and will serve Sky High's existing destinations as well as opening new international routes to the United States, Central and South America. Juan Chamizo Alonso, President of Sky High Aviation, said, "It's a huge differentiator for us to be the only operator in the region with E-Jet capability, and a great way to celebrate our first 10 years of operations. The addition of the larger, more modern and capable E190 is the next step in our development and our offering to our customers. The E190 is the perfect aircraft to help manage demand in peak times, as well as to open and maintain the international routes essential for our continued development as a leading Caribbean operator." Garry Topp, Sales Director at TrueNoord for the Americas, said "As a dedicated specialist in regional aircraft leasing, we recognise the importance of improving connectivity across the Caribbean to the US and beyond. We commend Embraer for their approach to working with smaller operators and for providing excellent start-up support to Sky High as they have matured as an airline''. Anne-Bart Tieleman, CEO TrueNoord, added, "Sky High have worked hard to develop and grow a high-quality network in the Caribbean. We are proud to support them as they take the next step in their upward trajectory and commence operations with the much larger E190 aircraft. We see a lot of further opportunities for the type in this region." Mark Neely, VP Sales and Marketing, The Americas, Embraer Commercial Aviation, said, "Sky High has been a valued customer since 2019 when they first acquired the ERJ 145s. The addition of the E-190 to its current fleet will more than double Sky High's capacity, and their customers will benefit from the best-in-class comfort of the E190 two plus two configuration, with no middle seats." Dominican Republic's Sky High eyes US services with A320/1s

Sky High Aviation Services (DO, Santo Domingo Las Américas) is planning to launch scheduled operations between the United States and the Dominican Republic, using E190, A320-200, or A321-200 aircraft either dry- or wet-leased from a US-approved carrier.

The Dominican carrier requested the US Department of Transportation to amend its Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) to include large aircraft on December 16, 2021. The carrier's current authorisation limits it to the use of aircraft seating up to 60 passengers and with the maximum take-off weight of 18,000 pounds (8,165 kilogrammes).

According to its Operations Specifications attached to the DOT filing, Sky High Aviation Services' current in-house fleet comprises two E145s. However, it also has a standing wet-lease agreement with Avion Express Malta (MLH, Malta Int'l) for two A321-200s, both of which are currently operating on behalf of another Dominican Republic's carrier, Sky Cana (SNA, Santo Domingo Las Américas). Due to the lack of appropriate authorisation for Sky Cana - whose FACP only permits cargo services with small aircraft - charter services to the US are operated under the code of Air Century (Y2, Santo Domingo La Isabela).

Initially, Sky Cana planned to operate the wet-leased A321s under the code of Sky High Aviation Services. Sky High applied to the US DOT for the appropriate authorisation but subsequently withdrew the petition without any explanation in January 2021.

Sky Cana's Chief Executive Frank Diaz told ch-aviation that the carrier was no longer cooperating with Sky High and had no plans to resume this partnership. Instead, Sky Cana would continue to use Air Century's AOC and work towards amending its own FACP to permit in-house services to the US.

As of this Friday, a new airline will start operations between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. It is Sky High, which will offer flights between Santo Domingo and Maracaibo twice a week (Mondays and Fridays).

The company will also start flights to Valencia from May 16, with two weekly frequencies (Wednesday and Sunday), and plans to start operations to Maiquetia, airport that serves the city of Caracas, as from June, as informed to Aviación al Día by Capt. These routes will be operated with an Airbus A321, with capacity to carry 220 passengers.

Sky High will allow Venezuelans to connect with eight destinations currently operated by the airline in the Caribbean via Santo Domingo, such as Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, Antigua, Bonaire, St. Kitts, Tortola and Anguilla. They will also be able to make connections from the Dominican capital to destinations in Europe and North America through other airlines.

The company plans to form alliances with different local airlines and operate flights to South America through Venezuela using the fifth freedom, Maita added.

For the moment, tickets are already on sale through travel agencies.
