Chengdu Airlines receives 23rd ARJ21 aircraft

                            

Chengdu Airlines received the 23rd ARJ21 aircraft in Shanghai on October 29th, 2020, which indicates the delivery of the 37th ARJ21 aircraft to customers by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). The aircraft was introduced by means of financial leasing from AVIC International Leasing Co., Ltd. (AVIC Leasing).




Mr. Zhou Xinmin, Member of Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of COMAC, expressed gratitude to AVIC Leasing and Chengdu Airlines for their attention and support to the China-made civil aircraft, and hoped that airlines, financial leasing institutions and COMAC would cooperate closely to jointly promote the continuous development of the China-made civil aircraft.




As the first operator of ARJ21 aircraft, Chengdu Airlines has actively explored the commercial operation mode of the China-made civil aircraft over the past more than 4 years to establish and improve the operation management system, maintenance support system and training system conforming to the characteristics of the aircraft, and make positive contributions to the development of the China-made civil aircraft. Chengdu Airlines to Operate First ARJ21 Commercial Flight on June 28 - Source

China's homegrown regional jet, ARJ21-700, is set to make its first commercial flight from Chengdu to Shanghai Hongqiao on June 28, two month later than planned.

Chengdu Airlines, the launch customer of ARJ21 regional jet, planned to ferry passengers from its home base in Southwest China to commercial hub Shanghai on Feb. 28, but has yet to do so.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Chengdu Airlines will operate the very first ARJ21 revenue flight on June 28.

Flight EU6679 is scheduled to depart from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 9:10 a.m. and land at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airportat 11:50 a.m.; with the return flight EU6680 leaving Shanghai at 1:10 p.m. and reach Chengdu at 4:25 p.m.

As the launch customer of the ARJ21, the Chengdu-based carrier received the first of 30 ARJ21-700 aircraft, Registration B-3321, from Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) on November 29, 2015.

Chengdu Airlines plans to fly them on regional routes between Chengdu and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, Nanjing in Jiangsu Province as well as other central and western Chinese cities.

The airline, however, has not started selling tickets for the maiden flight. The schedule is still subject to change

COMAC to Deliver First ARJ21 to Chengdu Airlines in November

working toward an internal target to deliver its first ARJ21-700 regional jet to the launch customer Chengdu Airlines (EU) on November 28, 2015, China National Radio reported.

ARJ21, short for Advanced Regional Jet for the 21st Century, is equipped with 78 seats in a two-class configuration (including eight first class seats) and 90 seats in a full economy class configuration. Its economic life is designed to be 60,000 flying hours or 20 calendar years.

The Chinese jet maker is scheduled to deliver five regional jets to Chengdu Airlines this year, which will then be put into commercial service next February, according to the media report.

COMAC began the half-year route-proving campaign on March 16, using its ARJ21-700 regional jets. The first phase of route proving trails are being routed based at Nantong Xingdong Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU), around Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Nanjing, Fuzhou, Guiyang and Changsha. The Chinese airframer started the second phase route-proving trails in late July, which mainly based at Chengdu Airport, around Wuhan, Wenzhou, Fuzhou and Nanjing. Recently, COMAC has completed all route-proving trails in advance of schedule.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer is still working on improvements to the ARJ21 despite receiving type certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) last December. Zhao Keliang, vice chief designer of the programme said in an interview that while the issues do not relate to the safety of the aircraft, they could affect the operational efficiency of the jet.

Examples include changes that need to be made to improve how the aircraft's anti-icing system functions in the case of a single-engine operation, as well as to its warning system to help enhance pilots' operational awareness and help them better anticipate possible flying situations, Zhao added.

Furthermore, requests from Chengdu Airlines are also taken into account, such as smoothing out sharp edges in the interior of the aircraft, Zhao said.

Chengdu Airlines, a subsidiary of COMAC and all-Airbus operator, will initially take delivery of five of 30 ARJ21-700s it has on order. Those five regional jets are expected to operate domestic routes from Chengdu to Shanghai Pudong, Nanjing, Kunming, Xi'an, Guiyang, Beijing and Wuhan.

To date, COMAC has received a total of 315 orders for the type from 19 customers at home and abroad.

The new aircraft is also the third new aircraft delivered to the airline in November, which expands its all-Airbus fleet size by 45 percent to 16 aircraft, making a firm step forward a leading complex, low-cost carrier.

On May 30, Chengdu Airlines announced it would transform into a low-cost carrier and race to grab a share in the fledgling budget aviation market in China. The airline positions itself as a complex, low-cost carrier featuring cheap airfares, optional services, single cabin configuration with special-size seats, as well as code-sharing, FFP and ticket distribution system.

With its fleet expansion, Chengdu Airlines has opened 13 new air routes, which brings its total routes to 43 covering nearly all regions across the country except Xinjiang and Tibet. Currently, the Chengdu-based carrier operates a fleet of 16 A320 family aircraft and plans to expand its fleet size to 100 aircraft by 2020.
