Frontier registers name Frontera, maps fleet growth

Frontier Airlines (F9, Denver International) has asked the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to register the new trade name Frontera for use in certain of its air transportation operations. The DOT confirmed the brand name raised no similarity or other issues requiring resolution under Part 215 and approved it for use in Frontier’s operations starting May 6.

ch-aviation reached out to Frontier Airlines for comment on the plans it has with the alternative trade name.

Separately, Frontier took delivery of six A321-200NX aircraft during the first quarter of 2024, the company revealed. For the remainder of the year, it expects to add seventeen further airframes, all of which are expected to be financed through sale-and-leaseback transactions. It also has two engine purchase orders for this year.

So far in the second quarter, it has added three more A321-200NX, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. The carrier’s fleet now comprises 145 aircraft, including eight A320-200s, eighty-two A320-200Ns, twenty-one A321-200s, and thirty-four A321-200NX.

Frontier Airlines has commitments to purchase an aggregate of 67 A320neo and 137 A321neo airframes, with deliveries expected until 2030, namely:

2025: 42 aircraft (seventeen A320neo, twenty-five A321neo);

2026: 41 aircraft (nineteen A320neo, twenty-two A321neo);

2027: 42 aircraft (twenty-one A320neo, twenty-one A321neo);

2028: 40 aircraft (ten A320neo, thirty A321neo); and

2029 and beyond: 22 aircraft (all A321neo).

Furthermore, the company still has the option to convert eighteen A320neo to the A321-200NY(XLR). This option, available since the US private equity firm Indigo Partners placed an order with Airbus for 255 additional aircraft in 2021, has not been exercised.

SPECIAL COLORS - New Frontier Airlines Plane Tail Features the Hispaniolan Parakeet in Honor of Destination Partner the Dominican Republic

Domingo & Andrea, the Pericos, Now Adorn New A321neo Aircraft

SANTO DOMINIGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Feb. 5, 2024 – Ultra-low fare carrier Frontier Airlines
(NASDAQ: ULCC) today celebrated the delivery of a new A321neo aircraft whose tail features Domingo
and Andrea, the Hispaniolan parakeets, in honor of destination partner the Dominican Republic. Frontier
serves six cities from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo and nine cities from Punta
Cana International Airport.
All Frontier plane tails feature a unique animal with a special name and back story, many of them from
endangered, threatened and vulnerable species. The Hispaniolan parakeet, also known as the perico or
periquito, is a medium-size parakeet that is endemic to the island of Hispaniola, home to the Dominican
Republic and Haiti. It inhabits a wide range of landscapes including lowland and montane forest,
savanna, open woodlands, and urban centers. The birds are considered a vulnerable species as a
result of massive population decreases over the years caused by habitat loss and exploitation within the
pet trade.
The two pericos featured on Frontier’s new aircraft are named Domingo and Andrea. Domingo is a nod
to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, while Andrea honors Andrea Thomen, a
principal scientist who is spearheading a project that will help defend the parakeet and its habitats.
The Dominican Republic is a highly valued destination partner for Frontier with the airline operating
service from Santo Domingo to San Juan, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa and Miami as well as
service from Punta Cana to San Juan, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis,
Chicago and Tampa.
"We are thrilled to introduce this new aircraft that honors the treasured pericos of Hispaniola and our
very important destination partner the Dominican Republic,” said Tyri Squyres, vice president of
marketing, Frontier Airlines. “Our mission is to bring attention to threatened animal species throughout
North America and we take pride in shining a light on these beloved, colorful parakeets that bring such
joy to the people of the Dominican Republic.”
Fernando J. Abreu, Director of Airline Relations of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, said,
“The choice to celebrate our endemic Hispaniolan parakeets, locally known as the pericos or periquitos,
by naming a plane ‘Domingo and Andrea the Hispaniolan Parakeets,’ reflects a deep understanding of
the unique natural treasures the Dominican Republic holds. We extend our sincere gratitude to Frontier
Airlines for recognizing the allure of our natural wonders and their impact on tourism. Our destination
welcomes visitors from around the world to experience the beauty of our land, engage in bird watching,
and contribute to the conservation efforts that make the Dominican Republic truly extraordinary."

Frontier Airlines Announces New Aircraft Tail Featuring the Doctor Bird to Honor Partnership with Jamaica

Announcement Follows Expanded Service to Jamaica From America’s Greenest Airline

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – November 10, 2022 – Ultra-low fare carrier Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ: ULCC) today revealed that the national bird of Jamaica, the doctor bird or red-billed streamertail, will be the newest animal to adorn one of the airline’s plane tails. Featuring the Jamaican doctor bird serves to honor Jamaica and celebrate the airline’s growing partnership with the island country. Frontier currently operates flights from nine U.S. destinations to Jamaica with two more scheduled to begin in 2023.

“Every Frontier plane tail features a special animal and we can think of no better way to honor the people of Jamaica than to put the island’s beloved doctor bird on one of our aircraft,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines. “The red-billed streamertail is a vibrant, stunning gem, just like the island of Jamaica. We are thrilled to continue expanding our partnership with Jamaica and increasing service, which, in turn, helps support the local economy and increase visitor arrivals.”

“The launch of this new aircraft tail featuring the doctor bird shows the expansive and supportive relationship Jamaica shares with Frontier Airlines,” said the Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism, Jamaica. “As the island’s national bird, the doctor bird helps tell the story of Jamaica’s rich culture and identity, and we are thrilled that Frontier is celebrating the importance of both by showcasing the cherished symbol on its tail.”

The red-billed streamertail, also known as the Jamaican doctor bird, is a species of hummingbird. It is endemic to Jamaica and is the country’s national bird. The doctor bird features stunning, iridescent colors and is treasured by Jamaicans, often immortalized in Jamaican folklore and song.

All Frontier Airlines aircraft feature an animal on their tail with a special name and backstory. The plane tail animals, which are adored by children and adults, alike, are meant to highlight animal species throughout North America, many of which are threatened or endangered. The red-billed streamertail will be named Stewart, a nod to the late Gordon “Butch” Stewart, the legendary founder of Sandals Resorts International and prolific advocate for Jamaica tourism. The new aircraft is expected to join the Frontier fleet in late 2023.

The new tail comes on the heels of expanded service from Frontier Airlines to Jamaica. Currently, the airline operates flights to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay from Atlanta, Orlando, Chicago-Midway, Miami, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Tampa. Service from Denver to Montego Bay will begin in February 2023 and from Dallas Fort Worth to Montego Bay next spring. Frontier began service from Atlanta to Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston earlier this week and also flies to Kingston from Miami. Frontier has been the fastest growing airline serving Jamaica since 2019, based on number of seats.

Frontier Airlines selects Skywise Health Monitoring as future fleet performance tool

Frontier Airlines has become the latest North American operator to adopt Skywise Health Monitoring as its key future fleet performance tool under a five year contract covering 111 single-aisle aircraft.

Launched in 2019, Skywise Health Monitoring (SHM) gathers live diagnostic feeds from the aircraft through its ACARS* link to the airline’s information system.

Frontier will use the solution for its A320 Family fleet. Airbus’ SHM will support the airline’s maintenance and engineering teams by enabling real-time management of aircraft events and troubleshooting. This will help the airline in identifying, prioritising, analysing and handling in-service events, enabling quicker decision-making and minimising AOG risks.

Using the power of the Skywise aviation data platform, SHM collates and centralises the alerts, flight-deck effects, maintenance messages etc., prioritises them, correlates any faults with the relevant troubleshooting procedures, highlights operational impacts, provides the maintenance history of the system (from the logbook and MIS** information collected through Skywise Core and stored in the data lake), allowing effective tracking of the alerts.

Overall, SHM saves airlines time and decreases the cost of unscheduled maintenance. Natively interfaced with Skywise Predictive Maintenance (SPM) and Skywise Reliability (SR) to provide an integrated user experience, and also ready to harness the new on-board Flight Operations and Maintenance Exchanger (“FOMAX”) data router which can capture over 20,000 real-time aircraft parameters, SHM enables end-to-end unscheduled event management/fixes, for example by anticipating tools and parts’ availability closest to the aircraft.
