The 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX families deliver 20-25% more fuel efficiency compared to the airplanes they replace, supporting the airline's strategy to modernize its fleet and expand global connectivity.

"Biman's follow-on order reflects its strategic approach to fleet renewal and capacity growth, and underscores the strength of our long-standing partnership," said Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing. Five aircraft delivered throughout July including two B787s, an A350, an A321LR and an A320ceo

Fleet expansion supports ambitious network growth and passenger targets

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Etihad Airways achieved a significant milestone in its fleet expansion programme with July 2025 becoming the busiest month for aircraft deliveries in the airline's 22-year history. Throughout July, Etihad took delivery of five aircraft including its inaugural A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320.

This record-breaking month demonstrates the airline's commitment to rapid growth as it works towards its target to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The five aircraft will significantly enhance Etihad's capacity across its expanding global network.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: "July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will enhance capacity on high-demand routes.

A particular highlight of July's deliveries was Etihad's first Airbus A321LR, which represents a significant milestone as the airline's inaugural aircraft of this type. Etihad defines luxury again with a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad's narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites alongside lie-flat Business seats, a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region, and enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment - bringing premium in-flight experiences to medium and short-haul routes. The deliveries bring Etihad's total fleet to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world's youngest fleets,

with an average aircraft age of 8.7 years, supporting operational efficiency and enhanced passenger experience.

The aircraft deliveries support Etihad's recently announced network expansion, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies across existing routes. The airline has experienced remarkable growth, carrying more than 20 million passengers in the last 12 months for the first time in its history, doubling passenger numbers from 2022 levels.

Etihad's fleet expansion programme continues beyond July, with 20 additional aircraft per annum expected for delivery throughout 2025 and 2026.

LATAM group announces an order for five more Boeing 787 Dreamliners to continue advancing its commitment to be more efficient and sustainable. The purchase ranks the South American airline group as the largest operators of Dreamliners in Latin America.
With this order, together with the already scheduled deliveries of this model in the upcoming years, LATAM group will reach a total of 46 Boeing 787 airplanes. Representing an increase of 20 airplanes of this model compared to the pre-pandemic fleet, this investment reinforces the group’s commitment to have one of the most modern and efficient fleets in South America.
Additionally, LATAM group has decided to equip the next Boeing 787s it receives with GEnx engines by GE Aerospace, becoming the first airline in South America to have these engines known for their high performance and efficiency.

“These actions are fully aligned with the commitment to sustainability and brings LATAM closer to the goal of becoming a carbon neutral group by 2050”, said Ramiro Alfonsín, LATAM Airlines Group S.A CFO. “The incorporation of GEnx engines is a decision that provides greater flexibility and options for the expansion of the long-range fleet. Furthermore, increasing the Boeing 787 fleet size will allow the group to operate with two different engine models, known for their cutting-edge technology and reduced environmental impact, in a complementary way.”

"The 787 Dreamliner is perfectly suited to support LATAM group’s sustainability and operations goals with its exceptional performance, flexible route capability and enhanced passenger comfort”, said Mike Wilson, vice president of Latin America and Caribbean Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We look forward to partnering with LATAM group as it connects Latin America with the world and makes a difference in the communities it serves.”

The GEnx engine family has more than 50 million flight hours since entry into service in 2011 and is the fastest-selling, high-thrust engine in GE history with nearly 3,000 engines in service and on backlog, including spares, according to data from its manufacturer.

“GE Aerospace is pleased to welcome the LATAM Airlines Group to the GEnx engine family,” said Kathy MacKenzie, Vice President, GE Commercial Programs for GE Aerospace. “As LATAM group continues to expand and grow its 787 Dreamliner fleet, we look forward to supporting their continued success every step of the way.”

The 787 Dreamliner family delivers superior fuel efficiency, keeping airline customers competitive. The Boeing 787 uses 25% less fuel and creates 25% fewer emissions than the airplanes they replace. The Boeing 787-9 can fly 300 passengers 7,565 nautical miles (14,010km), according to data from its manufacturer.

The Boeing 787 is designed for comfort, offering a spacious cabin, adjustable LED lighting, the largest windows, improved air quality, smooth ride technology, and ample storage for more enjoyable flying experience, according to data from its manufacturer.

Currently, the airline group has 332 aircraft, 56 Boeing passenger aircraft (models 767, 777 and 787) and 256 Airbus aircraft (models A319, A320, A320neo, A321 y A321neo). In addition LATAM Cargo has 20 cargo aircraft.

FLEET - Thai Airways eyes B787 order, Airbus out of race - report

Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) is close to finalising a deal with Boeing to buy up to 100 aircraft in a mixture of firm orders, options, and purchase rights, according to Reuters. Talks concerning the multi-billion dollar acquisition are reportedly in the advanced stage, with Airbus out of the race because of disputes with its engine supplier.

The airline is negotiating for around eight B787 types and 15 narrowbodies. Airbus had offered Thai their A350 model as an alternative to the Boeing widebody. Thai Airways is keen to modernise and grow its fleet to exploit strong passenger demand for travel to and from Thailand and capitalise on Bangkok's role as a transit hub.

Since downsizing its fleet while working its way through a court-supervising restructuring and rehabilitation process, the airline is now adding capacity by leasing aircraft, but ahead of this impending order, currently does not have any commitments placed with either OEM.

Airbus reportedly fell out of favour because Rolls-Royce is the sole engine manufacturer for the A350 and Thai Airways, like other carriers, has some issues with the engine manufacturer's pricing. In early November, Bloomberg reported that Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri said he would take his business elsewhere because Rolls Royce declined to offer the carrier more favourable pricing terms.

“If you play hard, you may win in the short term but lose in the long term,” Eamsiri said about the engine maker. British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) recently decided to order B787s over A350s, in part because of Rolls Royce's position on pricing. New Rolls Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic has said he is prepared to forego deals if they erode profitability and that the company is seeking win-win outcomes and "long-term sustainable" relationships with suppliers.

In addition to the cost of the Rolls Royce engines, renegotiations between Thai Airways and the engine manufacturer over an existing service agreement are at a stalemate, with Erginbilgic's hard-line policy seeing Rolls Royce refuse to do deep discounts. This refusal is believed to have played a role in Thai swinging towards Boeing and a B787 order.

In addition to 20 International Aero Engines V2500 powered A320-200s that Thai Airways is acquiring as a result of its merger with Thai Smile, Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines power Thai's three A330-300s, and Trent XWB engines power its seventeen A350-900s. The remainder of Thai's fleet comprises Boeing types, including six B777-200ERs, seventeen B777-300ERs, six B787-8s, and two B787-9s.

Since revenue service began in 2011, the 787 family has launched more than 370 new nonstop routes around the world.
