TransNusa will expand its daily flights between Perth and Denpasar, doubling the number following the successful launch of the route earlier this year.

The airline, which began flying to Perth in March as its first Australian destination, will double its frequency on the route from 18 July, having already expanded to a daily service, and will continue to operate its 174-seat A320-200s.

ROUTES - TransNusa opens direct flight route of Manado-Pudong

China Aircraft Leasing Co., Ltd. announced that its Indonesian airline TransNusa had officially opened a regular direct flight route from Manado, Indonesia (MDC) to Pudong, Shanghai (PVG) on May 7th, 2025, further expanding the air corridor between China and Indonesia and deepening the economic, trade, investment, cultural and tourism exchanges between the two countries. This route would be operated by C909 aircraft, marking the continuous expansion of the application scope of C909 aircraft in the international market and further recognition of the commercialization and internationalization capabilities of the regional transportation network.

The newly opened route of Manado=Pudong is currently the only direct flight route between the two places (with a technical stop in Clark, Philippines, and passengers do not need to disboard), and it is also a regional interconnection route under "The Belt and Road Initiative", which especially demonstrates the humanistic and economic connections of the "Maritime Silk Road". This route was launched and put into service on May 7th, and operated by the C909 aircraft of TransNusa, providing passengers with a comfortable, pleasant, convenient and fast medium-haul journey. After the route was opened, it was planned to operate four flights on every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

On the day of the inaugural flight, TransNusa held an inaugural flight ceremony at terminal building T2 of Pudong International Airport. Leaders from units such as Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Shanghai, CAAC East China Regional Administration, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), Shanghai Airport Authority and China Everbright Limited attended the ceremony and made speeches. Representatives and guests from relevant units such as Lingang section, public security bureau, customs, frontier station, financial institutions and media in Shanghai witnessed the inaugural flight together.

This is the second regular route operated by the C909 aircraft of TransNusa to a first-tier city in China and a complex gateway hub. This route includes a technical stop in the Philippines, with a block time of up to 6 hours in a one-way trip, which further verifies the economic efficiency, adaptability and reliability of the C909 aircraft in international route operations, and extends the service range of the C909 aircraft at the same time. Previously, TransNusa has already launched direct flights between Manado and Guangzhou with C909 aircraft. As of April this year, the C909 aircraft of TransNusa had been put into commercial service for two years. Significant progress and initial results had been achieved in both the operation and the commercial performance of the fleet, with a cumulative number of passengers carried exceeding 270,000

TransNusa takes delivery of ARJ21-700

TransNusa (8B, Kupang) has taken delivery of its first ARJ21-700, PK-TJA ( msn 186), which was officially handed over on Sunday, December 18. The occasion also marks the first delivery of the aircraft type to a customer outside China. The Indonesian low-cost carrier was meant to take the plane late last year, the first of 30 it has due from COMAC, but owing to the pandemic and the suspension of TransNusa flights, the delivery was deferred.

COMAC has delivered twenty-seven ARJ21s this year and a total of 93 since production began - all to Chinese carriers such as Chengdu Airlines, Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Express Airlines, Jiangxi Airlines, and OTT Airlines. TransNusa's interest in the ARJ21 may be partly explained by its ownership structure. China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings (CALC) holds a 49% equity interest in PT TransNusa Aviation Mandiri (TransNusa's formal name). CALC is a subsidiary of the state-owned China Everbright Group which has a long-term customer relationship with state-owned COMAC. CALC deepened that relationship in 2018 when it signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the aircraft manufacturer to increase the sales and operation of Chinese made aircraft.

TransNusa only resumed scheduled passenger flights in early October 2022 after suspending operations in September 2020. The airline runs a limited network across Indonesia's most heavily trafficked domestic routes, such as those between Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta and Denpasar and Yogyakarta Int'l. According to ch-aviation fleets advanced data, TransNusa presently operates three aircraft in addition to the freshly arrived ARJ21-700. All three aircraft - two A320-200s and a A320-200N, are at the airline via operating leases with CALC. PK-TJA is also arriving at TransNusa via a CALC operating lease.

The carrier, which has already reapplied for its AOC, no longer plans to operate ATRs and may add two more A320s after mid-2022.

TransNusa suspends ATR pax ops

TransNusa (8B, Denpasar) has temporarily suspended Avions de Transport Régional (Toulouse Blagnac) passenger operations following an incident at Jakarta Halim involving its only ATR42-600, PK-TNJ (cn 1015), on Monday, April 4.

The incident occurred when a Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) B737-800, on takeoff roll on runway 24, struck and severely damaged the turboprop's vertical stabilizer and left wing as it was being towed across the active runway. The B737's port-side winglet also sustained significant damage. It is currently uncertain whether either aircraft will be returned to service.

TransNusa, which has options for three more ATR42-600s, also operates one BAe 146-100, one BAe 146-200, four Fokker 50s, and one Fokker 70 on scheduled passenger flights around Indonesia.
