Fleet Modernization - Viva Aerobus signs MoU for 90 A321neo
Mexico City, 05 July 2023 – Mexican ultra-low-cost airline Viva Aerobus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 90 A321neo aircraft to drive its international and domestic growth. This MoU would bring the airline's order book to 170 A320 Family aircraft.
“These 90 A321neo 240-seater aircraft will allow us to grow and renew our fleet and remain the youngest in Latin America. The technology and operational efficiency of the A321neos will improve our operational reliability, on-time performance, and provide an unmatched passenger experience. Additionally, we expect to drive further cost-savings which will reflect in lower airfares and strengthen one of our most important advantages: having the lowest cost in the Americas. The fuel-efficiency and noise reduction that the A321neo provides will advance our sustainability efforts by delivering immediate, tangible carbon emission reductions, thus enhancing our position as the most efficient airline in the continent,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, Chief Executive Officer of Viva Aerobus.
“The Mexican leisure market is in full recovery mode and Viva Aerobus is at the centre of the action! The unbeatable economics of the A321neo make it the perfect choice for the airline's ultra-low cost model. We are pleased to have been a partner with the airline since 2013 and look forward to working together as it continues on its growth trajectory", said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International.
The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ A320neo Family, offering unparalleled range and performance. By incorporating new generation engines and Sharklets, the A321neo brings a 50 percent noise reduction and more than 20 percent fuel savings compared to previous single-aisle generation aircraft, while maximizing passenger comfort with the widest single-aisle cabin and large overhead stowage space.
Viva Aerobus has based its fleet renewal strategy on the A320 Family. In 2013, the airline placed an order for 52 A320 Family aircraft, the largest Airbus aircraft order placed by a single airline in Mexico at the time. In 2018, Viva Aerobus ordered 25 A321neo aircraft. To date, Viva Aerobus operates 74 A320 Family aircraft.
Airbus has sold over 1,150 aircraft in Latin America and the Caribbean. More than 750 are in operation throughout the region, with another 500 in the order backlog, representing a market share of nearly 60% of in-service passenger aircraft. Since 1994, Airbus has secured 75% of net orders in the region.

Viva Aerobus presents Doters, its new loyalty and rewards program
Viva Aerobus announced this Monday the birth of Doters, its first loyalty and rewards program that will allow all people to earn Points every time they travel, to later exchange them for new flights, additional services, bus tickets and many more products and services of the entire network of doters allies.
Joining Doters is completely free, passengers just have to fill out a simple form, either on the Viva Aerobus website; in your Viva App; the Doters website (www.doters.com); or on the Doters app; and, in less than a minute, they will start enjoying the benefits of the airline rewards program.
→ Iberia and Viva Aerobus sign codeshare agreement.
After this registration, each purchase, both in Viva Aerobus and in any other company that is part of the network of Doters allies, will earn Points that will be used to acquire or complement the payment of plane tickets, add additional services to the flight such as extra luggage , selection of VIP seats and even to cover the Airport Use Fee (TUA); among other services or products available from said network. In this way, the user will be able to use their Points, or a combination of Points and money, and thus make the entire payment.
The Doters loyalty and rewards program has three levels: green, silver and gold; each of them offers benefits to its members that allow them to take their travel experience to another level. Airline travelers can, depending on their level, have free regular seat selection, priority boarding and check-in, free extra baggage, priority service at the Viva Aerobus and Doters contact center, among other benefits.
→ Viva Aerobus inaugurates routes to Puerto Escondido, Acapulco and Oaxaca from AIFA.
Doters is a unique proposition as, unlike other rewards programs, it is possible to transfer points between users through its app. In addition, as a result of the comprehensive connectivity -air and land- offered by Viva Aerobus as part of the Grupo IAMSA transport conglomerate, the first allies of the Doters program coalition are the ETN Turistar, Costaline and Autovías La Línea bus lines. In this way, by traveling with these companies, Doters members will also be able to accumulate points and receive exclusive benefits on their ground transportation.
“Now, in addition to offering low prices, our new loyalty and rewards program Doters allows passengers to spend even more money when they fly with Viva. With the formula of traveling, earning Doters Points and accessing more benefits and flights, we improve the travel experience, we recognize our customers for their preference and we continue to make flying available to more and more people”, explained Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of VivaAerobus.

Airbus delivers first A320neo to Mexico’s Viva Aerobus
Low cost carrier becomes latest operator of ultra-efficient aircraft in Latin America
Low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus has taken delivery of its first A320neo, becoming the latest operator of Airbus ultra-efficient single-aisle aircraft in Latin America. Viva Aerobus became an Airbus customer in 2013 when it placed the biggest order for Airbus in Mexican history for 52 A320 Family aircraft, including 40 A320neo. Today, Viva Aerobus operates 20 A320 aircraft and has nearly completed its transition to become an all-Airbus operator by year end.
The Viva Aerobus A320neo is powered by Pratt & Whitney Pure Power PW1100-JM engines. The aircraft is configured with Airbus’ innovative Space-Flex cabin seating up to 186 passengers in wider 18” seats, for unmatched passenger comfort.
The A320neo Family incorporates latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices, which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020.
“The arrival of the A320neo is a historic milestone in the transformation of the new Viva Aerobus,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “With this first A320neo we are one step closer to reaching our year-end goal of becoming an all-Airbus operator and offering our passengers the youngest aircraft fleet in all of Latin America.”
“Airbus is proud to support Viva Aerobus evolve into one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic airlines in Mexico,” said Rafael Alonso, President of Airbus Latin America and the Caribbean. “Mexico’s strong economic growth presents a unique opportunity for airlines such as Viva Aerobus to expand their fleets with the industry’s top performing A320neo to improve their efficiency and environmental footprint.”
The A320neo Family is the world’s best-selling single aisle product line with nearly 4,800 orders from 87 customers since its launch in 2010 capturing some 60 percent share of the market. Thanks to their widest cabin, all members of the A320neo Family offer unmatched comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18” wide seats in economy as standard.

VivaAerobus starts A320 operations in Mexico
The A320s will bring VivaAerobus improved fuel efficiency, performance and range, allowing the airline to ultimately expand its network service throughout Mexico and beyond. The aircraft will be based in the airline’s Cancun hub and fly to Mexico City, Monterrey, Veracruz, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Reynosa and Torreon. Additionally, the aircraft will operate from Mexico City to Reynosa and from Monterrey to Mazatlan.
By the end of 2016, the airline will have completed its fleet transition from 737-300 to become an all-Airbus operator. In October 2013 VivaAerobus signed a purchase agreement for 52 Airbus A320 Family aircraft (40 A320neo and 12 A320ceo), representing the biggest Airbus aircraft order by a single airline in Latin American history.
“In less than a month that our A320ceo have been operating, we are pleased to see that our passengers are genuinely surprised with the comfort and reliability the aircraft offers,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of VivaAerobus. “We are also beginning to experience the A320’s excellent fuel and operational efficiencies. We expect to see fuel reductions of up to 30 percent as compared to our actual model, the 737-300, which will help VivaAerobus reduce its costs even more, translating into lower fares for our passengers.”
“We congratulate VivaAerobus for commencing their A320 operations today,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “The economic efficiency of our A320 Family will lift VivaAerobus to new heights, while their passengers can enjoy the space and comfort only the wider Airbus cabins do offer. We wish our new Airbus operator a bright future!”
The Airbus A320 has the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle aircraft and offers a wider cabin than competing single aisle products, enabling wider seats, a wider aisle and more personal space for the passengers. Transitioning to the world’s most efficient single aisle aircraft will translate into cost savings for the airline, ultimately allowing VivaAerobus to lower fares for its customers.
The A320 Family is the world’s best-selling and most modern single aisle aircraft Family. To date, over 10,200 aircraft have been ordered and over 6,000 delivered to operators worldwide.
More than 500 Airbus aircraft are in operation throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, with more than 800 aircraft sold and a backlog of nearly 400 yet to be delivered. In the last 10 years, Airbus has tripled its in-service fleet, while delivering more than 60 per cent of all aircraft operating in the region.
