Qatar Airways launch customer for B777-200LRMF

On 1 May 2025, Mammoth Freighters announced that it has completed a succesful first flight of its first B777-200LRMF. The prototype aircraft, N705DN (29742), conducted the flight after conversion at Mammoth's modification partner facility of Aspire MRO at Forth Worth (TX).

At the same time announcing the first flight, Mammoth also announced that Qatar Airways will be the launch customer for its B777-200LRMF conversion program. According to the press-release, the airline has signed an agreement with lessor Jetran for five B777-200LRMFs.

Mammoth Freighters launched its conversion program for the B777-300ER and B777-200LR at the end of 2020. It aimed to have its first conversion certified and delivered at the end of 2023 but this has now slipped to the end of this year. It has established conversion lines with Aspire MRO in Forth Worth (TX) and with STS Aviation Services UK in Manchester.

In total, Mammoth has orders and commitments for 35 conversions. Currently, it has five B777s under conversion with Aspire and two with STS. Confirmed customers so far have been lessor Jetran, DHL and Saudia.

Cargojet launch customer for Mammoth B777-conversions

Mammoth Freighters has announced that Cargojet from Canada will become the launch customer for its B777-passenger-to-freighter conversion programme that was launched last month. The carrier signed an order for two B777-200LRMFs and also secured options on two additional -200LRMFs as well as for two B777-300ERMFs.

The first aircraft for Cargojet is B777-200 N772ET (29747), which will also be used by Mammoth to secure the Supplemental Type Certifcate as a prototype. Conversion is to begin in mid-2022, with delivery to Cargojet in the second half of 2023.

Cargojet announced in January it was seeking to expand the fleet with additional B767- as well as two B777-freighters. It currently operates a fleet of nine B757Fs and nineteen B767Fs.

Mammoth launched as new B777F-converter

A new company has launched and joins the game of passenger-to-freighter conversions. Called Mammoth Freighters, the start-up will focus on converting B777-200LRs and B777-300ERs into B777-200LRMFs and -300ERMFs. Mammoth was launched in the end of 2020 by two aviation industry experts and is now backed by private investment funds.

According to the company's website, it currently has ten B777-200LRMFs on offer for sale or lease. The first converted aircraft is planned to be fully certified and operational in the second half of 2023. All ten aircraft have been acquired by Mammoth Freighters from Delta Air Lines.
