LAMIA commences domestic Venezuelan operations

LAMIA (Porlamar) officially launched operations on Saturday, November 2 with flights to Porlamar using one of its four ARJ-85s. According to Ricardo Albacete, the president of LAMIA, the airline aims to promote inbound tourism with long-term plans to serve the Caribbean, Brazil, Colombia, Panama and Aruba in addition to Canaima, Merida, among other domestic destinations. It had originally planned to operate from Merida but now has changed plans to be operating out of Porlamar.

Venezuela's LAMIA takes delivery of first ex-Cityjet ARJ-85

LAMIA (Merida) has taken delivery of its first ARJ-85, P4-LOR (c/n 2348). The aircraft is part of a fleet of four ex-Cityjet (WX, Dublin Int'l) aircraft that have been in storage in Norwich in the United Kingdom awaiting delivery to Venezuela. Although no exact routing plans have been published, news sources have pointed to a likely initial focus on domestic routes before an expansion into both Latin America as well as the Caribbean.
