SMBC Aviation Capital is already one of the largest customers for the A320 Family and together with its parent company Sumitomo Corporation, accounts for over 900 total commitments directly from Airbus for all Airbus aircraft types.

The A320 Family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft, having won more than 20,200 orders globally. The Family includes the largest member, the A321neo, offering unparalleled range and performance. The Family offers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, while maximising passenger comfort with one of the widest single-aisle cabins in the sky.

 

Farnborough International Airshow 2026 - Riyadh Air firms up order for six additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft

Farnborough, United Kingdom, 20 July 2026 – Riyadh Air, the new premium international airline based in Saudi Arabia, has firmed up an order for six additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, increasing its total firm commitment for the type to 31 aircraft.

The agreement forms part of the airline's original commitment for up to 50 A350-1000s announced in 2025. Riyadh Air will become the first airline in Saudi Arabia to operate the A350-1000 and will use the aircraft to support its international growth ambitions and the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives.

ORDER - SAS orders 18 Airbus A330neo to accelerate growth and fleet modernisation

Scandinavian carrier SAS has placed a firm order with Airbus for 18 A330-900 aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet renewal strategy. The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Copenhagen by Anko van der Werff, SAS CEO and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.

The aircraft will support SAS’ ongoing international network expansion, allowing the airline to increase existing high capacity routes globally and introduce new routes.

“On behalf of SAS, I am delighted to announce this order for the Airbus A330-900. Combining outstanding economics with improved environmental performance, the aircraft will play a key role in our long-term fleet strategy. It will allow us to deliver an exceptional customer experience, expand our network, and offer greater flexibility and convenience for our passengers. Powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo is designed to fly up to 8,100 nautical miles / 15,000 kilometers non-stop and reduces fuel burn, CO2 emissions and operating cost by 25% compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. The A330neo unique Airspace cabin offers passengers and crews the latest modern in-flight products for a comfortable flying experience.

As with all Airbus aircraft, the A330 family is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target to reach 100% SAF capability by 2030.

At the end of May 2026, the A330 Family had won over 1,950 orders from 133 customers worldwide.

FLEET - World's longest-range aircraft, the Airbus A350-1000ULR takes to the skies

The A350-1000ULR (MSN 707), the first of 12 aircraft ordered by Qantas has completed its first flight in Toulouse, France.

The aircraft, fitted with special flight test instrumentation, flew for three hours 43 minutes reaching an altitude of slightly above 41,000 feet. 

The aircraft was flown by a dedicated Airbus Flight Test crew.

The A350-1000ULR is being developed for Qantas Airways to enable non-stop flights between Sydney and London for the first time ever - a distance of almost 10,000 nautical miles, with flight times of up to 22 hours. 

This is made possible primarily by the integration into the aircraft structure of an additional rear centre tank (RCT), enhancing further the aircraft performance and increasing the range of the aircraft by 1,000 nautical miles.

During the first flight the crew carried out general aircraft performance checks and tested the
new fuel system architecture. 

This marks the start of a two month flight test campaign to certify the modifications. 

In addition, a new galley air cooling system will also be certified, which features lighter and more efficient refrigeration units for very long flights.

The ventilation and temperature control of the cabin will also be thoroughly tested.

Following the flight test campaign, MSN 707 will be retrofitted to Qantas’ commercial specifications.

The second A350-1000ULR to be produced for Qantas and the first scheduled to be delivered to the airline in April 2027, is now at an advanced stage of final assembly and ready to roll out of the paint shop in the coming days. This will be followed by completion of the premium four class cabin layout and engine installation.

The A350-1000ULR is the fourth passenger variant of the best-selling A350 Family, joining the A350-900, A350-900ULR and the A350-1000. 

Together, the aircraft have set new standards in long haul air travel, with a step-change reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and new levels of passenger comfort.

The passenger line-up will soon be joined by the all-new A350F freighter, also currently under development at Airbus, with first flight planned later this year.

At the end of April 2026, the A350 Family had won 1,579 orders from 68 customers, with over 700 aircraft flying with 41 operators, primarily on long haul services across the globe.

Qantas has ordered 12 A350-1000ULRs under Project Sunrise, designed to overcome one of the last frontiers in non-stop travel from Australia. 

In addition the carrier also has 12 standard A350-1000s on order for future operation across its long haul network.

Cathay Group orders two more Airbus A350F freighters

Toulouse, 27 May 2026 – Hong Kong’s Cathay Group has placed a firm order with Airbus for two additional Airbus A350F freighters. This will bring the airline’s total order to eight of the new-generation cargo aircraft. The A350F will be operated by the airline’s cargo division, Cathay Cargo, bringing new levels of efficiency across its extensive network.

As part of the world’s most modern widebody aircraft family, the A350F also offers a high level of commonality with A350 passenger aircraft, bringing added benefits to carriers already flying models from the family.

At the end of April 2026, the A350F freighter had registered 101 firm orders from 14 customers worldwide.

ORDER - Air China Cargo increases A350F freighter order to 10 aircraft

Air China Cargo Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as "Air China Cargo") has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for four additional A350F freighters, taking its total order for the type to 10 aircraft. Air China Cargo previously ordered six A350F freighters in November 2025.

“This additional order, following our initial A350F order last year, is a crucial strategic decision for the company to further optimise our fleet structure and expand transport capacity. It will allow us to better match and meet the demands of the international air cargo market, laying a solid foundation for the company's long-term stable development," said Wang Hongyan, Vice President of Air China Cargo.

FLEET - Saudia becomes first Middle East and Africa operator of the Airbus A321XLR

Toulouse, 25 May 2026 – Saudia, the national flag carrier of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has taken delivery of its first A321XLR, marking a significant milestone as the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate Airbus’ newest extra-long-range single-aisle aircraft.

The aircraft, powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, is the first of 15 A321XLRs on order by the airline. This delivery is a cornerstone of Saudia’s comprehensive fleet modernisation program, directly supporting the expansion of its international network in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030. By increasing connectivity and capacity, the A321XLR will support the Kingdom’s ambition to attract over 150 million visitors annually by the end of the decade.

This delivery reinforces a partnership between Airbus and Saudia that spans more than 40 years, beginning with the carrier’s first A300 delivery in 1984. Today, Airbus aircraft remain central to Saudia's operations as it scales its fleet development and network growth.

Saudia currently serves more than 100 destinations across four continents, with the A321XLR supporting further expansion into new international markets. With a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, the A321XLR enables Saudia to expand its international destinations with a single-aisle aircraft. These routes would have traditionally been served by larger widebody aircraft, while maintaining a premium guest experience.

​The aircraft features a highly premium, low-density configuration with 24 full flat Business Class seats providing direct aisle access, alongside 120 comfortable Economy Class seats. The aircraft features the Airbus Airspace Cabin, bringing a widebody experience to a single-aisle jet. Key features include extra-large overhead bins, advanced lighting systems and one of the quietest cabins in its class.

The A321XLR is the latest evolution of the A320neo Family, designed to meet the global demand for increased range and operational flexibility. It delivers a 30% reduction in fuel burn per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft, lowering CO2 emissions and noise footprints. Today all Airbus aircraft are capable of operating with 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with a target to increase to up to 100% SAF capability by 2030, directly supporting the aviation industry’s sustainability goals.

To date, the A320 Family has secured more than 19,900 orders from over 300 customers worldwide, solidifying its position as the world’s most successful commercial aircraft programme.

ORDER - AirAsia places landmark order for 150 A220s

Malaysia’s AirAsia has placed an order for 150 latest generation A220-300 aircraft. The purchase agreement is the largest single firm order placed for the A220 and propels the programme beyond the 1,000 firm order milestone, underscoring the aircraft's global market appeal.

The contract was announced at a ceremony at the Airbus facility in Mirabel attended by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of Capital A and Advisor to AirAsia Group and Lars Wagner, Chief Executive Officer Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. The event took place in the presence of the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada and the Honourable Christine Frechette, Premier of Quebec.

The purchase agreement makes AirAsia a new customer for the A220. The airline also becomes the launch customer for the aircraft's new cabin configuration of 160 seats. The increase in capacity, adding 10 seats, is made possible by the addition of an extra overwing exit on each side of the aircraft.

The A220 complements AirAsia’s existing Airbus fleet and will play a key role in advancing the Group’s network and growth. The aircraft will service destinations across ASEAN and into Central Asia, freeing up larger aircraft to fly longer routes.

Combining the longest range, lowest fuel consumption and widest cabin in its class, the A220 is the most modern airliner in its size category, carrying between 100 to 160 passengers on flights of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 km). At the end of March 2026, 501 A220s had been delivered to 25 operators worldwide.

As with all Airbus aircraft, the A220 is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for all its aircraft to be capable of operating with up to 100% SAF by 2030.

 

FLEET - Airbus delivers first A321XLR for Air Canada

The first of 30 Airbus A321XLRs for Canada’s flag carrier Air Canada, has been delivered. The aircraft is on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital. The delivery marks a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet renewal strategy, enabling the carrier to bridge the gap between its narrowbody short-haul and widebody long-haul operations.

The delivery makes Air Canada the first operator of the A321XLR in Canada. The aircraft will play a pivotal role in the airline’s network expansion, operational efficiency gains on new and existing long-haul routes, as well as providing additional range and economics required to serve secondary markets with non-stop connectivity.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, Air Canada’s A321XLR features a sophisticated two-cabin layout designed for maximum comfort on transcontinental and transatlantic flights. The premium cabin has 14 Air Canada Signature Class full-flat seats in a 1-1 configuration, offering every passenger direct aisle access, while there are 168 Economy cabin seats. Passengers will experience the Airspace interior design, which boasts the latest in-flight entertainment with Bluetooth audio, full in-seat connectivity, and XL overhead bins providing 60% more storage space. Additionally, an advanced ambient lighting system enhances the overall travel experience to help mitigate jetlag.

The A321XLR is the next evolutionary step of the A320neo Family, responding to market needs for more range and payload, creating even more value for the airlines. It delivers an unprecedented Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700nm and 30% lower fuel burn per seat compared with previous generation competitor aircraft, as well as reduced NOx emissions and noise. The range allows for Air Canada to operate non-stop transatlantic flights from Montreal and Toronto to destinations such as Berlin, Toulouse and Edinburgh. At the end of March  2026, Airbus had secured over 500 orders for the type.

As with all Airbus aircraft, the A321XLR is able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting to have its aircraft up to 100% SAF capable by 2030.

Air Canada currently operates a fleet of 136 Airbus aircraft and has 61 aircraft on order, including recently ordered A350 aircraft.

AIRCRAFT - Airbus completes first A350F Freighter main deck cargo door in Spain

Airbus has completed the manufacturing and assembly of the first main deck cargo door for the A350F freighter at its facility in Illescas, Spain. The component has been delivered to the Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Toulouse, where it will be integrated into the fuselage of the first test aircraft and undergo testing in the coming weeks. Airbus is manufacturing two A350F aircraft for flight testing from 2026 to 2027.
The A350F main deck cargo door is the largest in the industry. Featuring a 4.5-metre cut-out width and a 4.3-metre tall opening, it is designed to make loading and unloading operations easier, faster, and safer. Located in the rear fuselage to maintain an optimal centre of gravity during loading, the door is made from composite materials and features an electrical open/close actuation system.

The Airbus plant in Illescas is one of the company's leading centres for the manufacturing of large-scale, complex composite surfaces. It manufactures the skins and assembles the door before it is delivered for its integration into the fuselage. 

As part of the pre-series production process the first main deck cargo doors will be installed in Toulouse. Once serial production starts, the main deck cargo door will be delivered from Illescas to Hamburg for integration into the aft fuselage and for the installation of the actuation systems. From there, that section of the fuselage will be transported to the FAL in Toulouse following the Airbus production process.

AIRCRAFT - Airbus showcases next-generation First Class Experience concept for A350-1000

First Class travel at new levels. With increasing demand for First Class cabins on our Airbus flagship, the A350-1000, we are proud to showcase during the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026 our Airspace “First Class Experience” concept on the Airbus stand. It shows how Airbus is further developing the A350-1000’s interior to accommodate a larger, exclusive First Class cabin which is fitting for a flagship product.

Highlight: The new First Class Master Suite

The highlight of the experience is the display of Airbus’ First Class Master Suite conceived by its in-house design team. This Master Suite, which is located in the centre between the two aisles, accommodates two passengers, offering them exclusive access to a dedicated lavatory, changing area, bar and a double bed.

To enable the new “1-1-1” layout (i.e. three suites abreast) in the A350-1000, the floor area between Doors 1 to Doors 2 on the A350-1000 is fully maximised to dedicate as much space as possible for the new First Class section.

In particular, floorspace which was previously taken-up with various monuments, such as lavatories or stowages, is now freed-up by relocating them outside of the main revenue (i.e. passenger accommodation) area in a new Centre Module just behind Doors 1, opposite the cockpit door. Additional privacy for passengers in the suites is provided by also relocating the access stairs to the Forward Crew Rest Compartment (FCRC) in the new Centre Module. So there will be less disturbance from the flight crew, for example.

The large size and high ceilings of the A350-1000 make it the ideal choice for airlines to install their most premium product. Moreover, its unique interior proportions can be further enhanced (above and beyond today’s in service A350s) by new fascia and sculptured ceiling panels which provide an even greater sense of space, as well as an integrated welcome lighting panel at Doors 1 for extra ambience. The ‘icing on the cake’ are the suite’s virtual panoramic windows to create the ultimate premium travel experience.

Increasing airline uptake for First Class in their A350s

To date a total of 10 customers have decided to feature first class cabins in their ordered A350s – some of which are already in service. While the existing products are not utilising the next-generation concepts being proposed by the First Class Experience concept (such as the new lavatory, sidewall panels, or the enhanced welcome area), around five airlines are currently in the customisation phase – and these are the ones who could be considering the implementing elements included in the concept. The first of these would enter service from around 2030. In addition, several more airlines at the pre-sales stage are in talks to become A350 first class operators.

The overall aim of showcasing the design concept to inspire potential customers has been a great success. In particular, it has demonstrated how the new centre module realises a true first class cabin that can be accommodated in the flagship A350-1000. Airbus continues to receive their feedback to further shape and define this vision to create the ultimate First Class product.

ORDER - Air Astana finalises order for 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft

Air Astana Group, the leading airline group in Central Asia and the Caucasus regions by revenue and fleet size, has signed a firm order for 25 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, the largest ever direct order by the group. The agreement was made on the 20th anniversary since Air Astana started operating its first A320 in 2006, and includes five A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft.

Air Astana Group will deploy the new aircraft with both Air Astana and its low-cost subsidiary FlyArystan as part of the overall fleet expansion and renewal. Currently the group operates a fleet of 59 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.

ORDER - Air Canada discloses order for eight Airbus A350-1000s

Toulouse, France, 12 February 2026 – Air Canada has disclosed a firm order for eight Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, marking a pivotal upgrade to the airline’s long-haul fleet strategy with an additional commitment to Airbus widebody aircraft. The order was listed as undisclosed in November 2025.

The A350-1000’s economics and lower operating costs will deliver a significant competitive advantage to Air Canada. With an industry-leading range of up to 9,000nm, the latest generation widebody aircraft will be central to the airline’s global expansion, enabling seamless, non-stop connectivity from Canada to high-growth markets across the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

FLEET - EGYPTAIR takes delivery of its first of 16 Airbus A350-900 aircraft

Toulouse, France 09 February 2026 - EGYPTAIR has taken delivery of its first of 16 Airbus A350‑900 on order, becoming the launch operator for the type in North Africa. The A350 will support the airline’s long‑haul fleet modernisation and network expansion with new non‑stop routes to key destinations including the US West Coast and North Asia, from its Cairo hub. EGYPTAIR currently operates an Airbus fleet of eight A320neos, seven A321neos and 11 A330 Family aircraft, including five A330-200P2F.

The aircraft features a two-class configuration, comprising 30 Business Class suites with direct aisle access and 310 Economy Class seats. The unique, latest-generation Airspace cabin is designed to improve the long-haul experience for both passengers and crew through enhanced ergonomics and greater comfort.

AIRCRAFT - Airbus, Singapore achieve world-first on A330 MRTT auto-refuelling full certification

Singapore, 4 February 2026 — Airbus and Singapore have achieved full certification of the Automatic Air-to-Air Refuelling (A3R) capability on the Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). The Certification was granted by the Spanish National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA) following an extensive qualification and flight-test campaign conducted in close collaboration with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA).

This represents a key milestone in the continued development of the A330 MRTT platform and marks a world-first in aviation, with the campaign confirming the A3R system’s maturity, safety, and reliability across a wide range of mission profiles. With this certification, the RSAF becomes the first air force globally to introduce A3R on its fleet of A330 MRTTs, operated by 112 Squadron, setting a new benchmark for automated refuelling.

Mike Schoellhorn, Chief Executive Officer at Airbus Defence and Space said: “The certification of A3R with Singapore is a significant achievement and a clear demonstration of what long-term partnership can deliver. Major-General Kelvin Fan, Chief of Air Force at Republic of Singapore Air Force said: “The RSAF is pleased to have partnered with DSTA and Airbus in pioneering the world's first A3R capability. This development will enhance the RSAF's aerial refuelling operations, contributing to greater operational effectiveness. It also reflects the RSAF's commitment to working with industry partners to innovate and remain at the leading edge of technology."

The joint effort between Airbus, RSAF and DSTA began in 2020 to validate and accelerate entry into service of the A3R system. The certification programme encompassed day and night missions, expanded flight envelopes, and multiple receiver aircraft types, ensuring full mission readiness. The flight trials took place both in Spain and Singapore, with the RSAF providing the A330 MRTTs, as well as F16s and F15s, as receivers to support the testing and validations.

Developed by Airbus as part of its SMART MRTT vision, the A3R system employs advanced automation and computer vision technologies to automatically detect, track, and engage receiver aircraft, without the need for manual input. By reducing operator workload and enhancing precision, A3R improves mission safety, and delivers greater operational flexibility for air forces operating the A330 MRTT.

ORDER - Tigerair Taiwan orders four Airbus A321neo

Singapore, 4 February 2026 – Tigerair Taiwan has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for four A321neo aircraft, marking the airline’s first order for this type. The new aircraft will support the airline’s network expansion while delivering improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to previous generation aircraft.

The low-cost carrier which currently operates a fleet of 17 A320 Family aircraft, including nine A320ceo and eight A320neo, will benefit from greater commonality across the A320 Family, reducing training, maintenance and operating costs.

“The purchase of A321neo aircraft is a cornerstone of our ‘third-generation’ fleet expansion, designed to maximise operational efficiency as we scale for regional dominance,” said Chairperson Joyce Huang of Tigerair Taiwan. “Configured with 232 seats, the A321neo allows us to increase capacity on our high-demand ‘golden routes’ and accelerate network expansion. Airbus delivered 793 commercial aircraft to 91 customers globally in 2025 and registered 1,000 new gross orders in the Commercial Aircraft business. The backlog at the end of December 2025 increased to a new year-end record of 8,754 aircraft highlighting the strong market demand for Airbus’ product portfolio. In 2025, Airbus achieved another healthy book to bill above one.

In a continued complex and dynamic operating environment, deliveries in 2025 maintained an upward trajectory. The year witnessed several landmark deliveries and welcomed new operators of the A220, the A321XLR, the A330neo and the A350-1000 across all regions. Airbus also won repeat orders and key new customers in both single aisle and widebody campaigns. The widebody backlog reached a new year-end record of 1,124 aircraft.

ORDER - CALC orders 30 additional Airbus A320neo Family aircraft

Toulouse, France, 30 December 2025 – China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited (CALC) has signed a firm order with Airbus for 30 A320neo Family aircraft to satisfy strong demand for the aircraft from its customer base.

The agreement is the fifth order with Airbus, bringing the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by CALC to 282, of which 203 are A320neo Family aircraft.

FLEET - Qanot Sharq takes delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft

Hamburg, Germany, 19 December 2025 – Qanot Sharq, one of Uzbekistan's leading private passenger airlines, has taken delivery of its first of four A321XLR aircraft via a long-term lease agreement with Air Lease (NYSE: AL).

With this delivery, Qanot Sharq becomes the first A321XLR operator in Central Asia and the CIS, reinforcing the airline's ambition to modernise its fleet and expand its international route network and operate new routes to key markets across Asia, including Sanya and Busan, and New York City (via Budapest), while significantly enhancing Qanot Sharq's connectivity across Asia-Pacific and Europe.

Powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, the aircraft is configured with 190 seats in a two-class layout featuring 16 full-flat Business Class and 174 Economy Class seats. It offers passengers and cabin crew the enhanced comfort of Airbus’ Airspace Cabin, featuring XL overhead bins with 60% more storage space compared to previous generation aircraft. In addition, in-seat connectivity is available to all passengers while the latest lighting system enhances the overall passenger experience.

The A321XLR is the next evolutionary step of the A320neo Family, responding to market needs for more range and payload, creating even more value for the airlines. It will deliver an unprecedented Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700nm, some 15% more range than the A321LR and 30% lower fuel burn per seat compared with previous generation competitor aircraft, as well as reduced NOx emissions and noise. So far, Airbus has secured more than 500 orders for the type.
