Singapore's Scoot to debut E190 ops in mid-2Q24

Scoot (TR, Singapore Changi) will begin E190-E2 flights in May and has announced the first destinations it will reach with the aircraft type. The the regional jets will allow the Singapore Airlines low-cost subsidiary to launch new routes to Koh Samui and Sibu while taking over all or some frequencies on existing routes to Miri, Kuantan, Hat Yai, and Krabi.

The first and second of nine E2s on order are expected to be delivered in April. The first is set to start revenue service on May 7, flying to Krabi and Hat Yai. The induction of the second will see Scoot start E2 flights to the remaining four airports, with the airline planning to deploy the type on daily flights to Koh Samui on May 13.

Scoot will also use the Embraer jets to increase frequencies to Miri from three to four times weekly as of May 20 and to Kuantan from three to four times weekly from June 3. Thrice weekly flights to Sibu will launch on June 5.

The airline firmed up its order last May to lease the nine jets from Azorra Aviation, having signed a letter of intent earlier in the year. It said at the time that it would use the aircraft to target thinner, non-metro airports around Southeast Asia.

"With Koh Samui and Sibu, Scoot’s network will increase to 69 destinations, enhancing the airline’s connectivity in the region while reinforcing Singapore’s position as a regional hub," the carrier said in a statement dated March 5. "Our fleet expansion reflects our confidence that demand for air travel will continue to grow within this region."

Scoot's current fleet comprises 54 aircraft, including eighteen A320-200s, six A320-200Ns, nine A321-200NX, eleven B787-8s, and ten B787-10s.

Scoot operated its inaugural service between Singapore (SIN) and Kuantan (KUA) on 2 February.

The LCC will serve the short 282-kilometre airport pair three times weekly using its fleet of A320s. The carrier faces direct competition from incumbent operator firefly, with the latter already serving the sector with a daily rotation using its fleet of ATR 72-500s. OAG schedules show that the addition of Kuantan increases the number of Malaysian destinations in Scoot’s network to six for W17/18.

Scoot starts flying to India’s Pink City

Jaipur becomes airline's third new Indian destination of 2016
Mark Elliott -Travel Newsreamliner
Scoot has taken the next step in its Indian expansion strategy with the launch of its inaugural flight to Jaipur.

The low-cost carrier landed in India’s Pink City for the first time on 2 October 2016, following a direct flight from Singapore. Initially, Scoot will operate this route three times a week, before rising to four weekly flights on 30 October 2016. Like all Scoot’s routes, the Jaipur service will be operated using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Scoot first started flying to India earlier this year, with direct flights to Chennai and Amritsar, so Jaipur becomes its third destination in the country.

“The response from Chennai and Amritsar has been phenomenal so far and with the Jaipur launch, our spirits are soaring,” said Bharath Mahadevan, Scoot’s country head for India. “We see India as a promising market, especially with its youthful population who enjoy travelling and exploring new destinations.
Jaipur

“We are hopeful of a strong foothold in India with our exceptional offers and features like in-flight connectivity and in-seat power,” he added.

Srithar GB, the Singapore Tourism Board’s regional director for South Asia, Middle East & Africa, commented; “India is an important market for Singapore and there is strong growth potential in the Tier 2 cities. For the first half of 2016, visitor arrivals from Tier 2 cities registered a 10% growth compared to the same period in 2015. We are confident that the launch of Scoot’s direct flight between Jaipur and Singapore today, coupled with STB’s tactical efforts including joint marketing partnership with Scoot, will help promote travel to Singapore.”

Scoot’s flights will initially depart Singapore every Monday, Friday and Sunday at 2130 and arrive in Jaipur at 0035 the next day. The return flights then leave Rajasthani city every Monday, Tuesday and Saturday at 0135 and arrive back in Singapore at 0940.

Travellers from Jaipur will also be able to connect to destinations across Asia Pacific, including Australia, via Singapore’s Changi Airport.

Scoot dedicates “KarmaScootra” aircraft to Indian market

Cheekily named Dreamliner to fly to Jaipur from 2 October

Following the launch of its inaugural flights to India earlier this year, Scoot has now dedicated one of its aircraft to the Indian market.

The Singaporean low-cost carrier’s latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft has been named “KarmaScootra”, in a cheeky nod to the ancient Indian text on sexual behaviour.

Following its delivery, the 335-seat B787-8 aircraft will be deployed on Scoot’s latest Indian route from Singapore to Jaipur.

Flights will commence on 2 October 2016 and will operate three times a week (Mondays, Fridays and Sundays). This will become the first direct connection between Singapore and Jaipur, the “Pink City” in Rajasthan.

Scoot first started flying to India earlier this year, with direct services to Chennai and Amritsar.

Scoot moves into Middle East with Jeddah flights

LCC to take over Singapore Airlines' services to Jeddah
Written by:Mark Elliott
Singapore-based Scoot has revealed plans to launch its first ever flights to the Middle East.

From 2 May 2016, the low-cost carrier will offer three daily direct services between Singapore and the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. Flights will run every Monday, Thursday and Saturday using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

Scoot’s services will replace Singapore Airlines’ existing flights to Jeddah, which operate via Dubai. This will reduce the total flight time by about four hours.

The outbound flight, TZ591, will depart Singapore’s Changi Airport at 2150 and arrive in Jeddah at 1215. The return service, TZ592, will then take off at 1640 and arrive back in Singapore at 2040.

Scoot’s B787-8 will offer 335 seats in two cabin classes; 21 in the premium economy-style ScootBiz cabin and 314 in economy class. The aircraft also includes a ‘ScootinSilence’ section for passengers seeking more peace and quiet.

The aircraft will mark capacity increase of 50 seats per flight compared to the 285-seat Airbus A330 that SIA currently operates on the Jeddah route.

Jeddah will become the 18th destination in Scoot’s network and Saudi Arabia will mark the eighth country or territory served by the airline, not including Singapore.

Singaporean LCC adds new daily flights in time for Chinese New Year
Written by: Mark Elliott
Scoot’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft

Scoot has expanded its network in China with the launch of a new service to Guangzhou.

The Singaporean low-cost carrier kicked off the new route on 16 January, in time for Chinese New Year, and will now operate daily direct flights to the Chinese city using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

It takes over the daily flight from its partner Tigerair, which previously operated two daily Airbus A320 flights to Guangzhou. Tigerair will continue to operate one daily service on the route.

“Scoot is excited to kick-start 2016 and mark the upcoming one-year anniversary of 787 Dreamliner operations by expanding our footprint in the Pearl River Delta region, in addition to Hong Kong,” said Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot. “Our Guangzhou flights complement Tigerair’s existing daily Guangzhou services.”

Scoot’s daily flight, TZ128, will now depart Singapore’s Changi Airport at 0125 and arrive at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport at 0455. The return service, TZ127, will then leave Guangzhou at 0555 and arrive back in Singapore at 1000.

This complements Tigerair’s daily flights, which leave Singapore at 0605 and depart Guangzhou at 1045. Tigerair will also operate five extra flights to Guangzhou over the Chinese New Year period, between 8 and 15 February.
Guangzhou becomes Scoot’s seventh destination in Greater China, following Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenyang and Tianjin. It also flies to two destinations in Taiwan.

quarta-feira, 20 de janeiro de 2016

Scoot, part of the Singapore Airlines Group of airlines, on 16 January began daily flights on the 2,646-kilometre route between Singapore (SIN) and Guangzhou (CAN).

The route will be served by one of the airline’s 787-8s and becomes the carrier’s sixth destination in China after Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shenyang, Qingdao and Tianjin. The route is already served by China Southern Airlines (thrice-daily flights), Singapore Airlines (double-daily flights) and Tigerair Singapore, which has cut its frequency on the route from double-daily to daily to make way for Scoot. The airline’s CEO, Campbell Wilson, said: “Guangzhou will be Scoot’s sixth destination in China and second in the Pearl River Delta area after Hong Kong. Complementing Tigerair’s existing services, which also include Shenzhen and Macau, travellers to and from this region now have more choice, more connections and the opportunity to travel on our brand-new 787 Dreamliners – featuring inflight connectivity, in-seat power, revamped ScooTV, a wide range of customisation options and, of course, service with Scootitude.”

This will be the 19th low-cost carrier (LCC) introduced in Taiwan.

At present LCCs occupy up to 9.2% of Taiwan's civil aviation market. With the joining of Nok Air, the proportion is expected to lift at a large scale.

Scoot Collects Its First Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Seattle

Budget carrier Scoot marked a new chapter in its history, after it collected the first of its Boeing 787 jets on Sunday.

Scoot's chief executive Campbell Wilson and crew received the "keys" to the new Dreamliner from planemaker Boeing under foggy skies at its Everett factory north of Seattle.

At the Boeing delivery centre, close to 80 guests, including journalists and suppliers, were treated to a 10-minute light-and-sound show in a ceremony to unveil the aircraft that gleamed in Scoot's trademark yellow.

The Dreamliner will leave Seattle for its 18-hour flight across the Pacific Sea, making a stop at Osaka before arriving in Singapore on Monday morning at 9:45 a.m.

The plane's first "passengers" will be Mr Campbell, journalists and 38 others, including Scoot staff who scored coveted seats on the delivery flight through a contest.

Scoot's 787s, which will have up to 375 seats in two classes, promise to be more roomy and comfortable. Passengers in all classes can look outside through larger windows and entertain themselves by surfing the internet with Wifi onboard or streaming movies on their tablets and smartphones.

Sunday's delivery of the first Dreamliner comes more than two years after Scoot first announced that it will acquire the 787s. The Dreamliners, which are primarily made of carbon-fibre composite material, are lighter and use a fifth less fuel than the current fleet does.

Scoot, a Singapore Airlines subsidiary, has ordered 20 Dreamliners. As more B787s start coming onboard by August, the carrier expects to phase out six of its ageing, hand-me-down B777 aircraft from SIA. That will mark Scoot's transition to operating an all-Dreamliner fleet, which will be made up of the 787-8s and longer-range 787-9 variants.

Mr Campbell told The Straits Times that the eventual cost savings "improves our bottomline and gives us more scope to offer even better airfares".

It took more than 30 computerised mock-ups over the last two-plus years to finalise the look and feel of Scoot's Boeing 787 cabins. Scoot's Dreamliner fleet will be made up of the 787-8 and longer-range 787-9 variants.

They will each have up to 375 seats in two classes that promise to be roomier and more comfortable. Those onboard will:

- enjoy better seat pitch of between 31 inches (economy) to 38 inches (ScootBiz) and more legroom;

- get better views when they look outside through larger windows;

- charge their laptops and mobile devices with AC power, surf the internet with onboard Wifi connection or stream movies on their tablets and smartphones, although economy passengers will have to pay for these services;

- suffer fewer headaches, dry eyes and nausea, that are typically caused by the lack of oxygen, because the humidity level in the 787 cabin will be higher.

The Dreamliners, which are primarily made of carbon-fibre composite material, are lighter and use a fifth less fuel than the current fleet does. Scoot is among 58 airlines that have either ordered or received 1071 Dreamliners. Among them, 30 have received 231 787 jets.

The low-cost carrier (LCC) has a total of 20 Dreamliners on order — ten B787-9s and ten of the smaller B787-8 variant. Its first Dreamliner will be a 787-9.

Originally slated to receive the aircraft at the end of 2014, this was inadvertently delayed numerous times , with Scoot now expected to launch its inaugural B787 services to Perth and Hong Kong from February 5.
