FLEET - EFW successfully completes first major Chinese order with the delivery of its eighth freighter to Air China Cargo

Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) delivered the eighth cargo aircraft to their customer Air China Cargo.

With this delivery, EFW has successfully completed its first major contract in China.

The conversion of the passenger aircraft was planned in Dresden and carried out by Ameco in Chengdu, China, one of eight international conversion sites within EFW’s conversion network.

“We take great pride in the successful collaboration between the teams of Air China Cargo and Ameco in the conversion of our inaugural China fleet. We look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come,” said Torsten Kuehn, Head of EFW’s Conversion Programme, during a handover ceremony in Chengdu.

Ameco's CEO Shen Min said, "The delivery of the first aircraft was the starting point of our cooperation, and today's full delivery is the prologue of a new stage of cooperation." Ameco will launch a new round of global P2F project cooperation with EFW. Deepening the strategic partnership with EFW, they will jointly promote the continuous development of the P2F ecosystem.

The conversion of the Air China freighters (A330-200) took roughly two years; the first converted freighter was inducted in the first quarter of 2023. For the conversion, EFW brings its expertise and certifications and directly commissions AMECO to carry out the work.

Ameco is in charging of the maintenance for the whole Air China fleet. One of the specialties of the Chengdu site is the conversion of passenger aircrafts into freighters. Ameco and EFW have been working together since July 2022. As part of the cooperation, specialists have been exchanged and trained at each other's locations. EFW experts also support their Chinese colleagues on site during certain phases of the conversion and carry out quality checks and acceptance procedures at the end of the process.

FLEET - Air China orders 100 C919s with extended range.

Air China (CA, Beijing Capital) has placed a firm order with COMAC for 100 extended range C919s with deliveries scheduled to begin this year.

The carrier said in a stock market filing that the order was signed on April 26, 2024, and approved by the airline's board of directors the day after. Deliveries are scheduled to continue through 2031. Air China said the C919s will partially replace older aircraft, which are due to be retired, and partially be used for fleet growth. It intends to grow in "a controlled manner" and estimated that the deliveries of 100 C919s will eventually lead to a 7.5% net increase in ASK capacity compared to the level from 2023.

Air China said it would finance the transaction from a mix of its own cash, loans, and other sources. In late December 2023, the carrier announced a plan to issue additional shares to its controlling shareholder China National Aviation Corporation to the tune of up to CNY6 billion yuan (USD828 million). The issuance was completed by early February 2024.
Air China previously ordered five C919s, the ch-aviation fleets module shows, and is the second of the big three state-owned Chinese carriers to commit to a large number of C919s, after China Eastern Airlines, which has ordered 100 on top of the five it already has in service. China Southern Airlines currently has just five due.
The C919 will join existing Airbus and Boeing aircraft in Air China's narrowbody fleet which currently comprises thirty A319-100s, thirty-eight A320-200s, fifty-three A320-200Ns, sixty-one A321-200s, ten A321-200Ns, twenty A321-200NX, seventeen B737-700s, twenty-one B737-8s, and eighty-eight B737-800s.

ARJ21-700 aircraft newly introduced by Air China Limited flew Flight CA1109 from Beijing Capital International Airport to Xilinhot Airport at 7:47 on July 10th, 2020, completing its inaugural flight successfully and entered into route operation officially.

Before the departure of the inaugural flight, a short and enthusiastic inaugural flight ceremony was held at the Capital Airport. Mr. Cai Jianjiang, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of China National Aviation Holding Corporation Limited (CNAH), Mr. He Dongfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), and Mr. Chai Weixi, Vice President of Air China, attended the ceremony, and congratulated Air China on the successful inaugural flight of the first ARJ21 aircraft. For most of the passengers taking this inaugural flight, it is the first time to take a China-made aircraft. From the moment they got the news, they became more excited and curious than ever before; and from the moment of they entered the cabin, they began to feel every detail of ARJ21 aircraft. The China-made aircraft gave a new meaning to this flight.

Mr. Huo Zhaoliang, Deputy Secretary of the League Committee and Leader of Xilingol League of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Mr. Huang Qingxin, Member of the League Committee and Deputy Leader of Xilingol League, and Mr. Wu Chaoke, Deputy Leader of Xilingol League, led a team to welcome the inaugural flight at Xilinhot Airport. Mr. Chai Weixi presented an Air-China-customized ARJ21 model on behalf of Air China. Ulan Muqir artists dressed in national festival costumes sang and danced, offering holy Khata, and greeting guests from far away with melodious long tunes and unique vigor and heroism of the grassland.

As the main body of CNAH, Air China has its ARJ21 aircraft complete the inaugural flight in the route of Beijing-Xilinhot, which has greater significance. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, CNAH has resolutely implemented the requirements of the CPC Central Committee, resolutely taken fixed-point poverty alleviation as an important political responsibility, officially identified a fixed-point assistance relationship with Sonid Right Banner of Xilingol League in 2013, established an "8+2" assistance system, and made positive efforts. Sonid Right Banner lifted all 34 poverty-stricken villages out of poverty, and officially dropped from the list of poverty-stricken counties and banners in April 2019. CNAH has forged a profound friendship with Xilingol League in the course of poverty alleviation, and the route of Beijing-Xilinhot has witnessed CNAH and Xilingol League working together to depict the beautiful picture of poverty alleviation and prosperity.

In order to realize the early operation of ARJ21 aircraft by Air China, and make passengers experience the safe, comfortable and smooth service of China-made aircraft during journey, since the aircraft was delivered on June 28th, Air China has quickly coordinated the preparatory work before inaugural flight with its rigorous, professional and efficient operation support capability, and immediately put backbones in flight and ground posts as well as full-time and part-time instructors into practical training. Work related to ground support testing, from cabin/cargo compartment layout and ground support process watching and practice to special support vehicle testing, parking position testing and onboard service facility & equipment check, and even to the assembly/disassembly and operation demonstration of cabin/cargo compartment equipment, onboard emergency equipment and catering equipment, was successfully completed within three days after arriving in Beijing, and the aircraft was in good condition. In the subsequent flight training and verification flights, the flight, maintenance, and route support capabilities of the flight crew, flight attendants and maintenance team were further tempered and tuned in, operational approval was successfully obtained from authorities, and Air China has been fully prepared for the inaugural flight of ARJ21 aircraft.

ARJ21 aircraft is the first turbofan regional jet independently developed by China in accordance with international standards and owning independent intellectual property right. ARJ21 aircraft has the characteristics of adaptability, comfort, economic efficiency, commonality and serialization. The comfort of ARJ21 aircraft can compare favorably with trunk liners, and the cabin space of ARJ21 aircraft is wider and higher than that of aircraft of the same kind. ARJ21 aircraft of Air China is in all economy-class cabin configuration with seats for 90 passengers. The seats are arranged in 18 rows with two seats on the left and three seats on the right of the aisle in each row, and are of the latest ultra-thin type made in China with a simple appearance and comfortable sitting. The spacing, seat back angle and width are comparable to the configuration level of the existing single-aisle passenger aircraft of Air China. At the same time, a USB power socket is provided for each passenger. The cabin interior uses the unified interior products for the whole Air China fleet, embodying "the unity of nature and mankind", the whole cabin is decorated with elements of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, and catering is consistent with the current route configuration standards in order to strive to provide passengers with a better travel experience.

As planned, Air China will receive three ARJ21-700 aircraft in 2020, which will fly the routes from Beijing Capital International Airport to Xilinhot, Baotou, Ulanhot and Hohhot of Inner Mongolia. The introduction of ARJ21 aircraft will help to supplement the regional aircraft transport capacity of Air China, promote the effective connection of Air China's main and regional flights, further expand the carrying capacity of the Air China fleet, further improve the overall route network layout of Air China, and enhance market competitiveness, so as to meet the popularized air travel demand of passengers.

ARJ21 aircraft officially join fleets of Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines

China National Aviation Holding Corporation Limited, China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited and China Southern Airlines Company Limited respectively received their first ARJ21 aircraft at Pudong base of the Assembly Manufacturing Center of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) on June 28th, 2020. The simultaneous delivery of the three aircraft marks the official entry of ARJ21 aircraft into the fleets of international mainstream airlines.

Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines has carried out characterized aircraft selection according to their market demand in combination with their own fleet planning and route layout, and sent experienced engineering representatives to perform strict supervision over the aircraft manufacturing process. The three ARJ21 aircraft delivered to Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines this time are in all economy-class cabin configuration with seats for 90 passengers. Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines will respectively receive three ARJ21 aircraft in succession this year.

Air China has gone all out to complete all the preparations for the introduction of ARJ21 aircraft. ARJ squadron of Air China aerocade was officially established on December 16th, 2019 to make all-round efforts from the aspects such as fleet construction, transition training, personnel reserve and logistics support; maintenance, flight attendant and ground units set up program teams to focus on the implementation of specific work in each link; at the same time, backbones with outstanding technology, solid theoretical knowledge and rich experience on each post were selected to establish business connection with COMAC, and make solid progress in various operational preparations. The introduction of ARJ21 aircraft will provide greater support for Air China to further expand its route network, optimize its fleet structure and enhance its competitive strength.

Relying on its geographical advantage in Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines has strengthened its resource sharing and mode innovation and set up OTT Airlines on February 26th this year to start a new journey of market-oriented operation of China-made aircraft. OTT Airlines has taken Shanghai Hongqiao Airport as the operation base, mainly operated China-made commercial aircraft such as ARJ21 and C919, adhered to the mode of combining trunk and regional lines, and built an industry-wide, full-service, convenient and efficient aviation service network to promote the large-scale operation of China-made commercial aircraft. As the parent company, China Eastern Airlines will give full play to its advantages, give strong support to OTT Airlines, fully display the safe operation quality and advanced design of ARJ21 in operation, bring comfortable flight experience for passengers, and help China-made commercial aircraft fly higher, more steadily, farther and better.

In order to ensure the smooth operation of the first ARJ21 aircraft, China Southern Airlines has made careful preparations from multiple aspects such as support process, personal qualifications and operation safety, and completed relevant pilot and flight attendant transition training and other preparatory work successively. China Southern Airlines will give full play to its advantages of large fleet operation support and networked market, and strive to ensure good support, good operation and good development of ARJ21 aircraft. The early consideration is to deploy operation at Guangzhou headquarters, and optimize the support scheme to ensure orderly operation based on the strongest maintenance and operation capabilities of China Southern Airlines. In addition, by putting ARJ21 aircraft into operation in succession, China Southern Airlines will rapidly accumulate experience in operating China-made commercial aircraft, continuously optimize and improve the reliability and economy of China-made commercial aircraft, and bring "friendly and refined" service experience for passengers.

COMAC has insisted on the principle of being customer centered, sought increasing perfection, actively listened to the suggestions of the three airlines on product optimization, management improvement and customer service improvement, fully promoted the work such as manufacturing, operation support, special personnel training and material support, and continually improved ARJ21 aircraft customer service system and operation support system, in order to provide support for aircraft delivery and the smooth operation of subsequent routes.

Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines have large fleets, extensive network coverage and abundant operating experience. After introduction, ARJ21 aircraft will play a positive role in promoting the operation of regional aircraft, exploring an aviation development mode that combines trunk and regional lines and is suitable for China's actual conditions, and building a more accessible and smooth air transport network. As more and more ARJ21 aircraft has entered into the market, the popularization strategy of China civil aviation will be promoted to continually meet the growing travel demand of the public.
