Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 18 November 2025 – Etihad Airways has announced a significant expansion of its Airbus widebody fleet by placing a firm order for six A330-900s, becoming the latest A330neo customer. In addition, the airline has disclosed an order for seven additional A350-1000s (increasing its total for the type to 27) and three A350F (bringing the airline’s A350F commitment to 10 aircraft).
The agreement was signed at the Dubai Airshow, where Etihad Airways also announced the commitment of nine A330-900s on lease from Avolon.
“These aircraft strengthen our operations across medium-haul, long-haul, and cargo. The A330neo brings the right combination of efficiency and flexibility for our regional and mid-range growth, while the A350-1000 continues to deliver exceptional performance on our long-haul network. The A350F freighter adds significant capability to our cargo division as global demand continues to expand. “Etihad Airways’ continued investment in our latest-generation widebody aircraft is a testament to the strength of our partnership and the shared vision we have for the future of aviation in the UAE and beyond,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business. “The combination of the A350 Family and A330neo will deliver unmatched efficiency and flexibility to Etihad’s operations, supporting its future development.”
The A350 is the world’s most modern widebody aircraft, designed to fly up to 9,700 nautical miles / 18,000 kilometres non-stop, setting new standards for intercontinental travel. The aircraft includes state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics delivering unmatched standards of efficiency and comfort. Its latest generation Rolls-Royce engines and use of lightweight materials bring a 25% advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, compared to previous generation competitor aircraft.
The A350F features the largest main deck cargo door in the industry, with fuselage length and capacity optimised around the industry’s standard pallets and containers. The A350F is also the only freighter aircraft that will fully meet ICAO’s enhanced CO₂ emissions standards, coming into effect in 2027. Currently, the assembly of test aircraft in Toulouse is underway.
Powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo is designed to fly up to 8,100 nautical miles / 15,000 kilometers non-stop and reduces fuel burn, CO2 emissions and operating cost by 25% compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. The A330neo features the award-winning Airspace cabin, which offers passengers a unique flying experience.

At the end of October 2025, the A350 Family had won over 1,400 orders from 64 customers and the A330 Family had won over 1,900 orders from more than 130 customers worldwide.

FLEET - Etihad Airways takes delivery of its first Airbus A321LR aircraft
Hamburg, Germany/Abu Dhabi, UAE – Etihad Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321LR (long range) following today’s ceremony at the Airbus Finkenwerder site, marking a transformational milestone in the airline's fleet expansion strategy.
The aircraft brings Etihad's signature widebody experience to short and medium-haul routes, with premium cabins typically found only on long-haul flights. This is the first of 30 A321LR aircraft scheduled to join Etihad's fleet.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said: "Today marks an extraordinary moment for Etihad as we welcome an aircraft that changes everything we thought possible on a single-aisle plane. The A321LR enables us to serve more destinations with the same premium experience our guests expect across all cabins, perfectly embodying our commitment to delivering luxury at every altitude."
Redefining Narrowbody Travel
The A321LR features a three-cabin configuration, including Etihad's first-ever narrowbody First Suites - private, enclosed spaces with sliding doors, fully-flat beds, and bespoke design touches normally reserved for long-haul widebody operations. Each window-facing First Suite features a large 20-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth pairing, wireless charging, and additional space for a companion to sit.
The aircraft's 14-seat Business cabin features widebody-style seats in a 1-1 herringbone layout, ensuring every passenger has direct aisle access and window views. Each Business seat includes a 17.3-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth headphone pairing and wireless charging.
In Economy, 144 thoughtfully designed seats offer generous space and comfort, providing an elevated experience for single-aisle travel. Passengers enjoy 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen displays, USB charging, and Bluetooth connectivity. These seatback screens bring premium content back to narrowbody travel with over a thousand hours of movies, shows and games.
In addition, the cabin features enlarged overhead bins providing significantly more luggage space than traditional narrowbody aircraft.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President Sales of the Commercial Aircraft Business, commented: “The delivery of Etihad’s first Airbus A321LR is a powerful symbol of innovation and partnership, strengthening the long-standing relationship between Airbus and the UAE. This aircraft sets a new standard for comfort in the single-aisle category and paves the way for increased connectivity as Etihad expands its operations from its Abu Dhabi hub.”
Staying Connected Above the Clouds
A standout feature of Etihad's A321LR is its high-speed Wi-Fi powered by Viasat's advanced technology delivering speeds of up to 100’s of Mbps. Passengers can enjoy seamless streaming, gaming and browsing throughout their journey, bringing ground-level connectivity to the skies. This gate-to-gate connectivity, where permitted, ensures guests remain productive and entertained whether flying for business or leisure. Wi-Fi service on Asian routes is being progressively rolled out and will be available from September 2025.
Expanding Horizons
The A321LR supports Etihad's extraordinary expansion momentum, with the airline having launched or announced 27 new routes in a single year as part of its ambitious growth strategy. The aircraft will enter commercial service on 1 August 2025, initially operating between Abu Dhabi and Phuket before serving destinations including Algiers, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Kolkata, Krabi, Krakow, Medan, Milan, Paris, Phnom Penh, Phuket, Tunis and Zurich.
The A321LR delivery supports Etihad's Journey 2030 vision, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global aviation hub. Etihad Airways to retrofit B777s, B787s amid delivery delays
Aircraft manufacturer delivery delays will result in Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) spending up to USD1 billion on cabin retrofits on around 50 aircraft, CEO Antonoaldo Neves has told Bloomberg.
The B787 and B777 fleets will get the cabin upgrades first, he said. According to ch-aviation fleets data, Etihad operates ten B787-10s, thirty-three B787-9s, and nine B777-300ERs. After that, the carrier will look at retrofitting the remainder of its widebodies except for its A380-800s. Currently, its only other widebody types are A350-1000s, of which it has five with a further 15 on order.
Etihad hopes to grow its fleet from its current 102 aircraft to around 150 within five years. Its orderbook includes one A320-200N, twenty A321-200NX(LR)s, fifteen A350-1000s, seven A350Fs, eight B777-8s, seventeen B777-9s, twenty B787-10s, and eight B787-9s. Recently, ch-aviation reported that Etihad was in "exploratory talks" with both Airbus and Boeing about a new large widebody order.
"We’re going to retrofit even the planes that don’t need a retrofit, but we believe it’s important for the airline to have consistency across the fleet," Neves said. The refurbs are part of the carrier's five-year USD7 billion investment plan that includes new aircraft, network changes, and new routes.
The retrofit programme will start towards the end of 2025, a delay Neves attributes to supply chain issues, particularly procuring business class seats and toilets. However, the entire aircraft cabin will be overhauled and include high-speed internet and a new inflight entertainment system.
The announcement about the retrofits came in the same week that Etihad confirmed after-tax earnings of AED1.4 billion dirhams (USD380 million) for the nine months to September 30, 2024, a 66% increase on the comparable 2023 period. “It underscores the effectiveness of our strategy and the strength of our growth trajectory,” said Neves.

Neves mentioned that until quite recently only London was served more than once a day by Etihad, but this was changing.
He noted that Milan and Madrid now have more than one daily frequency and the list will keep growing, with Barcelona being touted as a possible candidate for frequency increase in the near future.

Etihad Airways set to reintroduce its much-loved A380 fleet after a surge in demand from customers
Four of the super-jumbos will operate between Abu Dhabi and London, with the first to be reintroduced from summer 2023
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has announced it is reintroducing four of its A380s from the summer of 2023.
The move follows a surge in demand for air travel across the airline’s network and customer feedback for the return of one of the most remarkable commercial flying experiences in the sky.
His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “It is wonderful to announce the return of this splendid aircraft. The A380’s reintroduction provides a further boost to Etihad’s capacity into the key UK market, with a knock-on effect for the wider GCC and Indian subcontinent that will bring more visitors to the city of Abu Dhabi.”
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways, said: “We know this will be welcomed by our guests who love Etihad’s incredible A380 and its award-winning cabins. We have decided the time is right to return some of our A380s into the fleet to satisfy the demand which has made them financially viable once more. We look forward to welcoming our guests again on board this remarkable aircraft.”
Etihad’s A380s feature The Residence as well as three cabin classes on the double-decker aircraft, including 9 First Apartments, 70 Business Studios and 405 Economy Smart Seats. This includes 80 Economy Space seats with a seat pitch of up to 36 inches.
The nine First Apartments set across a single-aisle, offer a private living space with a large leather lounge chair and an ottoman which opens up to become a separate 80.5" long fully-flat bed. The First Apartment is one of the most spacious in its class and also offers a 24" swiveling LCD TV monitor and personal vanity unit. For the first time, Etihad plans to eventually offer The Residence as an optional extra for guests to further enhance their First experience.
The Lobby, available to guests in First and Business class, is a serviced lounge and bar area located between the two cabins, featuring leather sofas, refreshments and a large TV with a USB connection.
Etihad expects to return four of its A380s to the fleet in the summer of 2023, with plans to operate to London Heathrow, freeing up capacity for increased frequencies on existing routes and the launch of new destinations.
The A380s’ return will be supported by the addition of five of their smaller A320 siblings.
Etihad is currently preparing the aircraft to fly again, and part of this preparation includes the recruitment and training of A380 teams, including pilots, cabin crew and technical ground staff.

Etihad finally starts flying its A350-1000
The first revenue flight was operated by A6-XWB (290), which flew to Paris-Charles de Gaulle and back to Abu Dhabi. The flight to Paris, however, was a one-off flight as Etihad will operate the type, initially, to Istanbul and Mumbai. Later, Cairo, Delhi and Jeddah will be added.
So far, Etihad has taken delivery of five A350-1000s, with fifteen remaining on order. It's, however, unclear if the airline will take delivery of all of them as they are still reshuffling its orders with Airbus. Etihad has also signed a LoI for seven A350Fs.
In the fleet, the A350-1000 is set to replace the B777-300ER, of which it operates twelve.

Etihad Airways casts doubt on A320neo, B777X orders
Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) is evaluating its options concerning the future of its A321-200N and B777X orders, and has yet to confirm that it will actually take the aircraft, Chief Executive Tony Douglas told Reuters.
"The manufactures can't confirm when they are going to be delivered and you have a market that you don't know when it's going to recover," he said, underlining that the Emirati flag carrier was now focused on "sustainable growth".
The ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows that Etihad Airways has outstanding orders for twenty-six A321-200Ns, eight B777-8s, and seventeen B777-9s, all dating back to a gigantic deal with both Airbus and Boeing announced during the 2013 Dubai Air Show by Etihad's previous management, led by James Hogan, which had sought to rapidly expand the airline, including through the acquisition of struggling carriers around the world.
Douglas said Etihad had around three years to decide on the future of the A321neo order and even more time to confirm the B777X order. The newest Boeing widebody type is not expected to certify before mid-2023.
While the order for twenty-six A321neo is a relatively minor position in Airbus's order book, a B777X cancellation would be a major blow to the American manufacturer as Etihad holds accounts for almost 10% of all orders for the type globally (25 out of 320 in total) and is just one of three customers of the B777-8 variant (alongside regional rivals Emirates with sixteen orders and Qatar Airways with ten).
The airline also has firm orders for fifteen A350-1000s, eleven B787-9s, and twenty-one B787-10s, which seem less in doubt.
Etihad Airways is already an operator of both the A320 and the B777 Families. Its fleet includes twenty A320-200s and ten A321-200s, as well as nineteen B777-300(ER)s and five B777-200Fs.

Etihad Airways reaffirms commitment to B787s
Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) has no plans to halt the deliveries of its B787s and is set to take a further 13 according to the original plan, Senior Vice-President (Technical) Paul Kear said during a media briefing.
Quoted by UAE's The National daily newspaper, Kear said the B787 was Etihad's most efficient type and was "loved" by both the carrier and its passengers.
Etihad's current B787 fleet numbers 38 including thirty B787-9s and eight B787-10s. The airline has a further eleven -9s and twenty-two -10s on firm order from Boeing. It is set to take deliveries of two by the end of 2020. In 2021, the deliveries of further aircraft will continue.
The airline's order book with Boeing also includes eight B777-8s and seventeen B777-9s. It ordered the B777Xs in 2013, at that time pledging to become the type's global launch customer. However, as its global investments began to collapse, plunging it into substantial losses, the airline restructured the order in 2019. New firm delivery dates for the B777Xs were not confirmed, although the airline is no longer expected to rival Lufthansa and Qatar Airways for the title of launch operator. The first delivery of the B777X is targeted for 2022 after a series of production delays.
Etihad Airways also has firm orders for twenty-six A321-200Ns and fifteen A350-1000s. The carrier's current fleet includes, besides the thirty-eight B787s, nineteen A320-200s, ten A321-200s, three A330-200s, four A350-1000s, ten A380-800s, and nineteen B777-300(ER)s, as well as six B777-200Fs.
