Tunisair Express to be merged into Tunisair

Tunisia's Minister of Transport Mahmoud Ben Romdhane says government is planning to merge Tunisair Express (UG, Tunis) into Tunisair (TU, Tunis) in a bid to improve the former's operational efficiency.

Addressing the North African country's Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) last week, Romdhane said Tunisair Express's operations suffered from excessive delays brought on by a shortage of reliable aircraft. Currently, the subsidiary operates three ATR72s (one -200 and two -500s) and one CRJ-900 on flights to Djerba, Gabes, Gafsa, Sfax, and Tozeur locally and Malta and Naples Int'l regionally.

Known as Tuninter (UG, Tunis) from 1991 to 2007, then Sevenair (UG, Tunis) from 2007, Tunisair Express formally adopted its current name in 2011 to reflect its integration into Tunisair following the overthrow of former President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali in 2011
