FLEET - Mexicana to end B737-800 ops by YE25, debuts E195-E2s

 Mexicana (XN, México City Felipe Angeles) has said it will be ready to end the wet-lease agreements for three B737-800s from Mexico’s armed air forces (Fuerza Aérea Mexicana) in December 2025, after receiving a fourth and a fifth E195-E2s directly from manufacturer Embraer late in the year.

The announcement was made after Mexicana received its third E195-E2, XA-MXC (msn 19020193), which was ferried from São José dos Campos U.E. Stumpf International to México City Felipe Angeles via Manaus International on August 22 and 23. After receiving the fourth and fifth E195-E2s in November and December, respectively, the company will phase out the three B737-800s wet-leased from the armed forces. In recent months, it already phased out wet-leased E145s from TAR México. Mexicana, a state-owned carrier that is the latest iteration of the former Mexicana (1921), started operations in late 2023.

The carrier debuted the regional jets in its scheduled commercial operations with a flight to Tulum Felipe Carrillo International on August 25. It is the first Mexican airline to operate Embraer’s newest aircraft family.

Mexicana still expects to receive seven more E195-E2s and ten E190-E2s as part of its fleet growth plan.

FLEET - Mexicana Receives Its Third Embraer E195-E2

Mexicana received its third Embraer E195-E2 aircraft this Saturday, part of an order for 20 units, as announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum on her social media accounts. With this addition, the airline continues to strengthen its expansion plan in the domestic market.

New Jet’s Route Before Arriving at AIFA

The aircraft took off on Friday from São José dos Campos, Brazil, and made a stopover in Manaus. From the capital of the state of Amazonas, it departed on Saturday morning heading to Mexico, where it finally landed at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).

It is worth recalling that on July 1st, Mexicana received its first Embraer E195-E2 and began a fleet renewal that will continue until 2027.

Start of Commercial Operations

The commercial debut of this model is scheduled for Monday, August 25th, on the route connecting AIFA with Tulum. With this inaugural flight, the company aims to strengthen its presence in one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.

FLEET - Embraer Delivers First E2 Jet to Mexicana

Mexicana, Mexico's state-owned carrier, has taken delivery of their first E195-E2 aircraft from Embraer (NYSE: ERJ; B3: EMBR3). The delivery of Mexicana’s first new generation jet is a significant milestone in the airline’s modernization journey, and reaffirms the E2’s growing presence in Latin America. The aircraft departed Embraer’s headquarters for Mexico this morning.

This delivery is the first of 20 new-generation E2 jets ordered by Mexicana, comprising 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 aircraft. The deal, announced in 2024, represents a strategic investment by Mexico’s state-owned carrier to enhance connectivity and operational efficiency.

“This delivery marks a new chapter for Mexicana,” said Leobardo Bojórquez, CEO of Mexicana. “The E2’s performance, economics, and passenger appeal make it the perfect aircraft to support our growth strategy. We are excited to bring this new level of service and efficiency to our customers.”

Mexicana’s E2 jets will be configured in a single class layout, offering passengers a modern, spacious cabin experience with no middle seats. The E195-E2’s advanced aerodynamics, new-generation engines, and refined systems contribute to a 29% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the previous-generation jet.
