Jetways Airlines (WU, Nairobi Wilson) has had its Regulated Agent Certificate (RAC) reinstated after a Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) investigation into alleged security breaches at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport found no evidence of Jetways' involvement.
The RAC was suspended in late February after reports that Jetways had been exploiting a lack of customs-clearing facilities at its warehouse at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta to clandestinely ship miraa/khat to Somalia, in contravention of local laws.
However, KCAA director-general Gilbert Kibe told the Business Daily newspaper on Friday last week that no such violations had occurred.
“I am stating that the security breach did not happen from Jetways facility or caused by them," he said. "They had all requirements for issuance of a regulated agent certificate including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) customs which are on site and the latest state-of-the-art security screening devices."
The RAC was thus reinstated on February 26.
Kibe refused to divulge any further information concerning who was, in fact, responsible for the breaches given the KCAA's investigation.
