China Eastern Airlines boosts makeshift freighter fleet

China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao) has boosted its fleet of A330-200s converted into makeshift freighters to a total of 13, making it one of the world's largest operators of temporarily converted aircraft, according to the Cargo Facts database.

According to Flightradar24 ADS-B data, the airline is currently deploying the aircraft from Shenzhen and Shanghai Pudong mostly to Los Angeles Int'l, Frankfurt Int'l, Paris CDG, and London Heathrow. The airline operates thirty A330-200s in total, the ch-aviation fleets advanced module shows.

The airline has also been using multiple A330-200s, A330-300s, and B777-300(ER)s to operate cargo-only flights without removing the passenger seats.

China Eastern Airlines itself does not have any dedicated freighters in its fleet although fellow China Eastern Air Holding affiliate China Cargo Airlines (CK, Shanghai Hongqiao) does with two B747-400(ERF)s, one -(FSCD), and six B777-Fs.
