EuroAtlantic initiates B767 replacement studies
euroAtlantic Airways (YU, Lisbon) has initiated fleet renewal plans amid growing difficulties in securing additional B767 airframes on the international market.
Speaking to CAPA last week, euroAtlantic's Commercial Director, Eugenio Fernandes, said that given the B767's growing rarity, the Portuguese ACMI/charter operator was now looking at potential alternative types. No specific aircraft were mentioned but he did note the B787 would be too great of a step up.
As previously reported by ch-aviation, euroAtlantic's fleet is now an all-passenger-jet operation involving one B737-800, six B767-300(ER)s, and one B777-200(ER). Fernandes says euroAtlantic hopes to replace its B767s by mid-2019.

Perris DC9 to resume skydiving ops
Perris Valley Aviation Service (Perris) has hinted on its Facebook page that it will be resuming skydiving from its DC-9-20 by September this year. The forty-eight year old twin-jet N127NK (msn 47361) has been out of operation since at least 2014 and has been in storage for refit ever since.
Responding to comments on their Facebook page, Perris said that "We don't have specific dates to give you guys yet, but we will let you know soon! September at the latest, hopefully before that!"
The Perris DC9 was the first passenger jet approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for skydiving. According to a report in Aviation Pros, the aircraft was bought in 2003 as scrap and it took Perris owners three years to modify it and attain approvals for parachuting use. Perris claims that it is "the only privately owned commercial transport category Twin Jet aircraft that you can jump from in the world".

AerCap Delivers First of Three New Airbus A350 XWB Aircraft to Air Caraïbes
First A350 Delivery to a French Carrier
DUBLIN – AerCap Holdings N.V. (“AerCap”) (NYSE: AER) today announced the delivery of a new Airbus A350-900 to Air Caraïbes, the first of three new A350 aircraft deliveries on long-term lease from AerCap’s order book with Airbus. The aircraft was transferred to the French carrier at a ceremony in the Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse, attended by Philip Scruggs, President and Chief Commercial Officer of AerCap, Jean-Paul Dubreuil, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Air Caraïbes, and Marc Rochet, Chairman of the Managing Board of Air Caraïbes, amongst other delegates. ORLANDO, Fla., March 2, 2017 – Boeing [NYSE:BA] today unveiled its MH-139 helicopter in the competition to replace the U.S. Air Force’s UH-1N “Huey” fleet, which currently protects intercontinental ballistic missiles and transports U.S. government and security forces.
Boeing’s response to the Air Force, revealed at the Air Force Association Air Warfare Symposium, is based on the market-leading Leonardo Helicopters AW139, a modern, non-developmental, multi-mission helicopter.
“This Northeast Philadelphia-built aircraft is sized to meet U.S. Air Force requirements and offers more than $1 billion in acquisition and lifecycle expense savings over 30 years when compared to competitor aircraft,” said David Koopersmith, vice president and general manager, Boeing Vertical Lift.

Yamal sharply expands its SSJ 100 fleet

Russian regional carrier Yamal Airlines has completed acceptance procedures for a batch of six Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) aircraft leased through GTLK State Transport Leasing Company. As the result, its fleet of the type is expanded to nine jets, all leased through GTLK. Six of them are leased for the period of 12 years, whereas the contract for remaining three is valid for one year, GTLK told Russian Aviation Insider. The spokesperson for the company also added that Yamal is poised to get ten more SSJ 100s before the end of 2017.
The airline has the total of 25 aircraft of the type on order. The letter of intent between the lessor and the carrier was signed at the Moscow MAKS-2015 air show. The SSJ 100s are expected to replace Western-built airliners in Yamal's fleet. The airline currently operates three Boeing 737-400s, a Boeing 737-500, six Airbus A320s, two Airbus A321s, ten Bombardier CRJ200LRs, two L-410 turboprops and a Bombardier Challenger 850.
The SSJ 100 manufacturer, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company, announced plans to deliver up to 40 aircraft to customers this year. Out of this number 35 are new aircraft, and five will find new owners.

Red Wings to mix all-Russian fleet with A321s

The Russian airline Red Wings, which has so far flown only domestically-produced aircraft, is going to introduce Airbus A321 narrowbody airliners into its fleet. Delivery for the European-produced aircraft is to begin in the second half of this year, says Aleksandr Rubtsov, head of Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC), which is buying 100% of Red Wings' shares. The airline is expected to replace its fleet of A321s and Tupolev Tu-204s and -214s with Russia’s new MC-21 narrow-body aircraft from 2019.
There is currently no news of how many A321s the carrier is going to take on, although, according to Rubtsov, it is expected to receive up to six airframes. Vedomosti daily cited a source, familiar with the negotiations on the aircraft delivery, who said that there may be four new A321 aircraft in Red Wings' fleet by the end of this year, and the same amount by next year. The A321 aircraft will be taken on short-term leases of up to five years.
The Airbus A321 will allow Red Wings to roll out new routes with MC-21 airliner in mind, as these aircraft have similar passenger capacities. Red Wings has already signed a contract for the delivery of 10 MC-21s, although Rubtsov has not excluded the possibility of adding five or six more of them.
According to Rubtsov, the development of new routes and the readiness to take on new Russian aircraft is the main mission of Red Wings. The result of this is that the airline should be ready for the new aircraft, with an already established route network to touristic and resort destinations and a customer base. For this reason, Ilyushin Finance has decided to buy out the airline, which has been undergoing financial difficulties.
In order to work out its financial issues, Red Wings has decided to develop a five-year business plan, which includes the task for the company's management to bring the airline out of loss and begin a stable growth of operational profit within the next two to three years.
"This should contribute to growth by increasing the size of the fleet and the scope of the business," says Rubstov. Red Wings's issues with debt are, according to Rubtsov, for the most part solved – the remaining debt is much less than it was before the IFC takeover. Red Wings has increased its balance sheets and now has the chance to take on new aircraft.

Asiana Airlines to begin A350 ops in mid-2Q17
Asiana Airlines (OZ, Seoul Incheon) has announced it will commence scheduled A350-900 operations during the second quarter of the current year.
An airline statement to the Yonhap news agency said effective May 15, the twinjet will be provisionally deployed on flights from Seoul Incheon to each of Osaka Kansai (7x weekly) and Manila Ninoy Aquino Int'l (6x weekly). During the second half of the year, longhaul operations will commence with flights to San Francisco, CA and London Heathrow initially.
Asiana's A350s will come configured with twenty-eight seats in Business Smartium, thirty-six in Economy Smartium, and 247 in Economy. The aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84s.
Official Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) order numbers show the South Korean carrier has a total of eight A350-800s, twelve A350-900s, and ten A350-1000s on order. Four -900s are expected to deliver this year.
