Azul receives the first Airbus A330neo in the Americas
The first A330neo of the Americas has been delivered to Azul Linhas Aéreas on lease from Avolon, becoming the first airline from the Americas to fly the A330-900. The aircraft is the first of 15 A330neo ordered by Avolon.
The A330neo, Airbus’ new generation A330 aircraft, will be used by the airline to expand its international route network between Brazil and Europe and the United States. Fitted with a three-class cabin accommodating 34 business class, 96 economy Xtra and 168 economy class seats, the A330neo offers passengers greater comfort along with the newest and the most advanced in-flight experience while the airline will benefit from the aircraft’s unrivalled operating economics.

Founded in 2008, Azul is a Brazilian carrier that serves 108 destinations across South America, the United States and Portugal.
Airbus has sold 1,200 aircraft, has a backlog of nearly 600 and nearly 700 in operation throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, representing a 56% market share of the in-service fleet. Since 1994, Airbus has secured nearly 70% of net orders in the region.
Delta Air Lines' first A330neo makes inaugural flight
The A330-900 is the larger of the two A330neo variants that Airbus launched in 2014. The A330neo brings significant efficiency improvements while also introducing the award-winning Airspace by Airbus cabin, which offers the newest and most advanced in-flight experience with extra personal space, larger overhead luggage bins, latest generation in-flight entertainment system and state-of-the-art ambient lighting.
Incorporating the latest-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, along with aerodynamic enhancements – including new extended composite wingtips which provide 3.7 metres of increased overall wing-span, as well as increased lift and reduced drag – the A330neo is a more efficient aircraft, delivering 25% lower fuel burn than previous generation aircraft and the lowest seat-mile cost in its category. The A330-900 range is 6,550 nautical miles in a typical three-class configuration.
Emirates still in talks with Boeing over B787 order
Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) has dismissed reports that it has cancelled a tentative order with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) for forty B787-10s.
Last week, the Dubai-based carrier's FY2018/19 financial results omitted mention of the B787s while focussing entirely on the A330neo/A350 for which it has signed a commitment for forty A330-900s and thirty A350-900s.
"In November 2017, Emirates announced a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of forty Boeing 787s which, at this time, has not been converted into a firm contract," an Emirates spokesperson said in a statement to Khaleej Times. "However, we can confirm that discussions on the 787 are ongoing."
Emirates currently operates 109 A380-800s (with a further fifty-three on order from Airbus), ten B777-200(LR)s, and 136 B777-300(ER)s (with a further six due). It also has orders with Boeing for thirty-five B777-8s and 115 B777-9s.

Vistara eyes ex-Jet Airways widebodies for European flights
Vistara (UK, Delhi Int'l) is planning to add sixteen aircraft previously operated by Jet Airways (9W, Mumbai Int'l), tentatively including all ten B777-300(ER)s, three A330s, and three B737s, the Business Standard has reported.
The carrier is eyeing the widebody aircraft to hasten its entry into the long-haul market, particularly on routes to Europe.
Currently, Vistara operates an exclusively narrowbody fleet of thirteen A320-200s and nine A320-200neo. The 51/49 joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines Group has six B787-9s on order from Boeing with entry into service expected in early 2020.
Prior to its grounding in mid-April, Jet Airways operated ten B777-300(ER)s. The Indian carrier owned all ten units, although their acquisition was backed by US EXIM Bank guarantees. The airline also operated four A330-200s and four A330-300s. Of these, two have already been re-registered on the Isle of Man by owner CDB Leasing.
SpiceJet (SG, Delhi Int'l) has so far committed to taking over twenty-two ex-Jet Airways B737s. AirAsia India (I5, Chennai) is also reportedly considering adding some of the narrowbodies, while Air India (AI, Mumbai Int'l) dropped a plan to take over ex-Jet B777s.

First Lion Air A330neo rolls-out of Airbus paint shop
The first A330neo for Lion Air Group has rolled out of the Airbus paint shop in Toulouse, France, featuring the airline’s distinctive livery. The aircraft will be operated on lease from BOC Aviation.
Altogether, Lion Air Group will acquire 10 A330neo aircraft, eight of which will be leased from BOC Aviation. The aircraft will have a single-class layout seating 440 passengers and will be operated by Lion Air on selected domestic routes, as well as charter and pilgrimage service to Saudi Arabia. Some of the aircraft will be operated by Thai Lion on long-haul services from Thailand.
The first aircraft will now continue its industrial process and proceed soon to ground and flight tests, before the delivery to the airline in the coming weeks.

Airbus delivers first A321LR to Canada’s Air Transat
Air Transat, a Canadian leisure and holiday travel airline, took delivery of its first Airbus A321LR aircraft. The A321LR is one of 15 the Montreal-based carrier is scheduled to receive. Air Transat leases the A321LR from AerCap.
The A321LR, with its unique Airbus Cabin Flex configuration allowing for installation of additional fuel tanks, will have a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles. Air Transat plans to use the A321LR for long-distance flights out of Canada, principally on more extended, thinner routes to European, Caribbean, Central and South American destinations. The A321LRs will replace older planes with an ultra-modern, highly cost-efficient aircraft equipped with state-of-the-art interior amenities for an enhanced and enjoyable passenger experience.

The Air Transat A321LR is configured for 199 seats in two classes, including 12 premium Club Class seats in an exclusive cabin with personalized service and ergonomic seating. Economy Class seats are wider, provide more personal space and are equipped with a state-of-the-art entertainment system.
The A321LRs are part of a larger leasing deal Air Transat has with AerCap to convert to an all-Airbus fleet by 2022 as it phases out older widebody and narrowbody planes.

Fiji Airways to become A350 XWB operator
Fiji Airways has adopted the A350 XWB as part of its expansion plans to broaden its international network. Two A350-900s will be leased from Dubai-based DAE Capital, making Fiji Airways the newest operator and DAE Capital the latest customer.
With its common type rating with the A330 Family, the A350 XWB was the natural aircraft choice to seamlessly join the airline’s existing fleet of four A330s. The common rating between the A350 XWB and A330 means that pilots who are qualified and current on the A330 can already commence preparations to take the A350 XWB’s controls by undergoing “differences training” only, meaning a significant cost savings and operational flexibility.
The aircraft will be configured with 33 full lie-flat Business Class and 301 Economy Class seats. The aircraft will be deployed to enhance existing long-haul services between Fiji, Australia and the U.S., and to provide the opportunity to open additional routes.

First JAL A350-900 rolls-out of Airbus paint shop
The first A350 XWB for Japan Airlines (JAL) has rolled out of the Airbus paint shop in Toulouse, France. The A350-900 is the first ever Airbus aircraft to be produced directly for JAL and features a special A350 XWB red logo on the fuselage.
The aircraft will now proceed to ground and flight tests, before delivery to JAL in early summer.
In total JAL has ordered 31 A350 XWB aircraft, comprising 18 A350-900s and 13 A350-1000s. The A350-900 will initially be operated on major domestic routes, with a three-class configuration seating 369 passengers.

ACJ319neo sets record during test flight
The first ACJ319neo[1] successfully completed a 16-hr. and 10-min. test flight on 26th April, setting a new record for the longest A320 Family flight by an Airbus crew[2].
It flew from Toulouse to northern Greenland and back, in an endurance flight that included a simulated diversion under 180 min ETOPS[1] rules, for which the A320 airliner family is already certified.
The aircraft is due to be delivered to K5 Aviation of Germany in the coming months, after ACJ319neo flight trials are completed.
“We want to fly customers to their destination using the quickest routes, as well as delivering unsurpassed comfort and service, and it’s impressive to see such long-range capability at first hand,” said K5 Aviation CEO and Chief Pilot Erik Scheidt, who participated in the flight.
The ACJ319neo is derived from the A320neo airliner family, which features new engines and wingtip-mounted Sharklets.
“Airbus’ modern aircraft family takes the world in its stride with robust reliability, and corporate jet operators are natural beneficiaries of this airliner heritage, which also brings comparable operating costs to traditional business jets,” said ACJ President Benoit Defforge.
K5 Aviation’s ACJ319neo is fitted with five additional centre tanks (ACTs) in its cargo-hold, and includes improvements such as a lower cabin altitude for greater passenger comfort.
Corporate jet orders and commitments for A320neo Family-derived aircraft now total 14.
Airlines and corporate jet customers have ordered almost 15,000 A320 Family aircraft to date, with more than 700 of the new A320neo version already serving airlines worldwide.
Around 200 Airbus corporate jets are in service worldwide, flying on every continent, including Antarctica.
Air Macau presents its first A320neo
Air Macau has presented its first A320neo at a ceremony held at Macau International Airport. The aircraft is the 21st Airbus aircraft in Air Macau’s fleet that already includes four A319ceo, six A320ceo and 10 A321ceo aircraft.
In total, Air Macau will receive eight additional A320neo and A321neo aircraft under leasing agreement in order to meet its fleet renewal and expansion programme.
The new aircraft features 158 seats (eight business and 150 economy seats). Selected for its outstanding operational efficiency, comfort and range, the A320neo will be deployed by the career on its regional services.
Featuring the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky, the A320neo Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver at least 15 percent fuel savings at delivery and 20 percent by 2020. At the end of March 2019, the A320neo Family had received more than 6,500 firm orders from over 100 customers worldwide.

The new nonstop flight between the Northeast and South America will be made possible by the A321neo’s extended range and fuel efficiency. Expanding Service in Ecuador
JetBlue will launch new service between New York-JFK and Guayaquil starting December 5, 2019, pending government approval. Flights will operate daily and the new route will become the longest in the JetBlue network, stretching beyond today’s longest route by more than 200 nautical miles. Today, the existing New York-Guayaquil market suffers from high fares and limited connecting flight choices. JetBlue aims to bring affordable fares to the market while also offering the only nonstop service by a major U.S. airline between the two cities. JetBlue will announce details of when seats will go on sale soon.
