LAM Mozambique confirms European return in late 1Q20
LAM - Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (TM, Maputo) will partner Hi Fly (5K, Lisbon) for the launch of non-stop flights between Mozambique and former colonial master Portugal scheduled for March 31, 2020.
According to O País newspaper, the agreement was finalized on Monday, October 7, and will see LAM wet-leasing A340-300 capacity from Hi Fly for a 3x weekly Maputo-Lisbon service. Ticket sales will start later this month, the report added.
State-owned LAM is forced to used ACMI capacity for the route given it is currently banned from European airspace.
The route will compete with TAP Air Portugal (TP, Lisbon) which currently runs a similar 3x weekly service also using an A340-300. However, this will switch to an A330-900 once the quadjets are retired in late October.

Low-cost FlyArystan receives its third aircraft and opens its 10th destination
The Kazakhstan start-up carrier is preparing to launch flights to Moscow (FlyArystan)
FlyArystan, Kazakhstan’s only low-cost carrier (LCC), has received its third aircraft and has opened its 10th destination as it prepares to launch key flights to Moscow. The budget airline has started to serve the new route from the country’s capital of Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana) to Semipalatinsk, a city located in the east of Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, FlyArystan has taken delivery – from its parent company Air Astana – of its third Airbus A320 with tail number P4-KBC, offering a capacity of 180 seats.
The budget carrier’s press department has revealed to Russian Aviation Insider that the newly received aircraft will be based at Nur-Sultan. Apart from Semipalatinsk, the extra aircraft has, from the 4th of October, also allowed the carrier to launch flights to Chimkent, Taraz and Pavlodar from the Central Asian country’s capital.
According to information available to Russian Aviation Insider, FlyArystan is preparing to launch international flights from the middle of December, with Zhukovsky airport near Moscow being the airline’s first destination outside of Kazakhstan. The LCC also plans to operate flights to Russia’s capital from Aktobe and Karaganda.
Its next-door neighbour, Kyrgyzstan, is another country on the airline’s wish-list agenda. Earlier this month Paolo Ricciotti, FlyArystan’s vice-president for strategic development and infrastructure, met with the management of Bishkek capital Manas International Airport to discuss the possibility of launching flights to Bishkek and Osh.
By the end of this year another aircraft will be joining the FlyArystan fleet. The LCC’s plan to operate 10 aircraft next year will support an ambitious five-fold increase in the number of routes served by the start-up.
Kazakhstan’s first and only budget airline began operations in May 2019 using Air Astana’s Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). The airline expects to carry some 700,000 passengers this year.
Mahan Air reactivates B747-400 after 9 years
Mahan Air (W5, Tehran Mehrabad) has reactivated its only B747-400 almost ten years after it had been retired and put in storage at Tehran Imam Khomeini airport.
EP-MNB (msn 24363), a 30-year-old quadjet previously operated by Blue Airways (BLM, Yerevan), was reactivated on August 27, 2019, when it performed a test flight around Tehran Imam Khomeini airport. It had been stored there since 2010.
Zambia's Royal Air Charters details E145 plans
Royal Air Charters (Lusaka) will deploy its sole E145 on trunk Zambian domestic routes, Business Development Consultant Joseph Mulenga has said. The Zambian passenger charter specialist took delivery of 9J-TST, formerly N271SK (msn 145305), in Lusaka on Saturday, October 5.
Speaking to the Zambian Business Times newspaper, Mulenga said the nearly 20-year-old Embarrass jet would be used to serve Zambia’s major towns and cities including Lusaka, Solwezi, and Ndola. He did not disclose any service entry dates.

Boeing Delivers First 787-10 Dreamliner for Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA)
NORTH CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, Sept 30, 2019 – Boeing [NYSE:BA] delivered to Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) its first 787-10 Dreamliner, which will play a key role in the airline’s fleet and network expansion. The largest member of the Dreamliner family sets the benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics and will complement SAUDIA’s fleet of 787-9.

In addition to the 787-10, SAUDIA operates 13 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes, and 33 777-300ER (Extended Range) jets.

With the delivery to SAUDIA, the 787-10 continues to expand its global presence. As a stretch of the 787-9, the 787-10 adds about 40 more seats in a 2-class configuration and cargo capacity, offering 25 percent better fuel per seat and fewer emissions than the airplanes it replaces. With a range 6,345 nautical miles (11,750 kms), the 787-10 can fly more than 95 percent of the world’s twin-aisle routes.
