South Korea's Air Premia commits to five more B787-9s
Air Premia (APZ, Seoul Incheon) signed a commitment with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) for five more B787-9s during a ceremony in Hong Kong on Wednesday, October 30.
An airline statement said only that the widebody jets will complement three other B787-9s that it has already sourced from Air Lease Corporation. Deliveries of the leased trio will start in 2020 and run through to 2022. It aims to introduce a total of ten B787-9s within the next five years
Having been granted an amended business licence in September this year, Air Premia will begin its push for an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) in March next year. It expects to complete the drive in time to launch operations in September 2020.
Initial services will cover South Korea to Vietnam and Hong Kong while in 2021, it expects to start flights to the West Coast of the United States.
Cebu Pacific finalises order for 16 A330neo
Cebu Pacific (CEB), a carrier based in the Philippines, has signed a firm order with Airbus for 16 long-range A330neo aircraft. The order firms up the wide-body portion of a previously announced Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which also includes commitments for 10 A321XLR and five A320neo single-aisle aircraft.
The A330neo ordered by Cebu Pacific is a higher-capacity version of the A330-900, with up to 460 seats in a single-class configuration. Cebu Pacific plans to operate the aircraft on trunk routes within the Philippines and the rest of Asia, as well as on longer range services to Australia and the Middle East.
Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific President and CEO said: “The A330neo is integral to our fleet modernisation programme. With this purchase, we aim to reduce our fuel emission and build a more sustainable operation. This will also give us the lowest cost per seat, at the same time enabling CEB to increase seat capacity and maximise valuable airport slots in Manila and other Asian megacities.”
Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer commented: “Cebu Pacific is a pace-setter and surely one of the most respected and well managed airlines in the low-cost sector. This new order is another important endorsement for the value-based proposition that the A330neo brings to highly competitive markets. The A330neo Family builds on the proven economics, versatility and reliability of the existing A330 Family. Incorporating the latest-generation Trent 7000 engines from Rolls-Royce and a new wing, the aircraft offers a reduction in fuel consumption of 25% compared with older generation competing products as well as an extended range capability of up to 8,000 nautical miles / 15,000 kilometres.
The A330neo cabin provides the comfort of Airspace by Airbus amenities, including state-of-the-art passenger in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi connectivity systems.
Aeroflot to equip its A320neos and MC-21s with high-speed Internet

Russian flag carrier Aeroflot is to equip all of its new Airbus A320neos and future Russian-made MC-21 aircraft with Internet access, Kirill Bogdanov, the airline’s deputy general of Information Technology, revealed during the 2019 Wings of the Future trade conference in Moscow.
Aeroflot also intends to install Internet access to 81 of its current generation A320ceos over the next two years.
“It’s crucial to our passengers to have an Internet connection whilst on board our aircraft. At the moment we’re not talking about news browsing, but about giving our clients the opportunity to use messaging systems and e-mails. This is what we can offer now,” explains Bogdanov.
At present, 32 mid-haul aircraft in Aeroflot’s fleet have been installed with the wireless in-flight entertainment system (IFE).
The airline’s 22 Airbus A330 and 19 Boeing 777 long-haul airliners are already equipped with Internet access. Next year, the carrier will begin updating the web systems on board its wide-body fleet, a move which will increase browsing speeds, explains Bogdanov.
Meanwhile, as part of its on-going fleet renewal programme, Aeroflot is planning to take delivery of three A320neos and three A321neo aircraft next year.
Meanwhile, the first delivery of Russia’s advanced narrow-body MC-21 aircraft has been postponed until 2021. Aeroflot, the launch customer of the new type, has committed to 50 of the aircraft (to be leased through Avia Capital Services), with an option for 35 more.

First Airbus A321neo for Ural Airlines
The aircraft is the first LEAP-powered A321neo to enter service in both Russia and the CIS (Ural Airlines)
Ural Airlines (U6), Russia’s fifth largest carrier, has introduced its first Airbus A321neo, operating a flight on the key route from its Yekaterinburg airport base to Moscow on November 2nd.
The aircraft, the first LEAP-powered A321neo to enter service in both Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), is on an operating lease from US lessor GECAS. Sporting tail number VP-BOP, it is configured to accommodate 236 passengers in a full-economy layout and is the third re-engined narrow-body A320neo family aircraft in the carrier’s fleet.
The Russian operator has a current in-service fleet of 47 aircraft, all from the Airbus A320 family, including five A319s, 26 A320s and 16 A321s, with each one powered by CFM International engines.
U6 served 7.4 million passengers in the first six months of this year, a 5.8 per cent year-on-year improvement. The airline’s flight geography now includes more than 200 destinations.
With its aim to operate a 70-strong fleet by 2025, the carrier also holds a firm order for 10 Boeing 737 MAX-8s and an option for a further four of the currently grounded aircraft. In the original schedule, the first deliveries were due to occur in October of this year and the airline was expecting to have two MAXs in its fleet before the end of 2019.
Vietjet orders A321XLR and signs Airbus training services agreement
Vietnamese carrier Vietjet has announced that it will add the A321XLR to its fleet, with a firm order for 15 aircraft and the conversion of five A321neo aircraft from its existing backlog. The announcement was made during a visit to Airbus headquarters in Toulouse by Vietjet President & CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, hosted by Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.
During the visit, the airline also signed a new training agreement with Airbus Services. This will see Airbus position two new A320 Family full flight simulators at the carrier’s training centre in Ho Chi Minh City. Airbus will also provide a range of training services to the airline and its instructors.
Vietjet will be among the first airlines to receive the A321XLR. The addition of the aircraft to its fleet will allow Vietjet to further expand its network, flying longer routes across Asia, as well as to destinations as far afield as Australia and Russia.
Vietjet President & CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said: “Vietjet has always been a pioneer in operating new, modern, advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft. Including today’s announcement, Vietjet has now ordered a total of 186 A320 Family aircraft, of which 60 have been delivered. The airline’s outstanding Airbus backlog is entirely composed of A321neo aircraft.

The aircraft will deliver an unprecedented Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700nm – with 30% lower fuel consumption per seat, compared with previous-generation competitor jets. At the end of September 2019, the A320neo Family had received more than 6,650 firm orders from nearly 110 customers worldwide.

IndiGo signs for 300 A320neo Family aircraft
India’s IndiGo has placed a firm order for 300 A320neo Family aircraft. This marks one of Airbus’ largest aircraft orders ever with a single airline operator.
This latest IndiGo order comprises a mix of A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR aircraft. This will take IndiGo’s total number of A320neo Family aircraft orders to 730.
“This order is an important milestone, as it reiterates our mission of strengthening air connectivity in India, which will in turn boost economic growth and mobility. India is expected to continue with its strong aviation growth and we are well on our way to build the world’s best air transportation system, to serve more customers and deliver on our promise of providing low fares and a courteous, hassle free experience to them," said Ronojoy Dutta, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo.

IndiGo is among the fastest growing carriers in the world. Since its first A320neo aircraft was delivered in March 2016, its fleet of A320neo Family aircraft has grown into the world’s largest with 97 A320neo aircraft, operating alongside 128 A320ceos.
The A321XLR is the next evolutionary step from the A321LR which responds to market needs for even more range and payload, creating more value for the airlines. The aircraft will deliver an unprecedented Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700nm – with 30% lower fuel burn per seat compared with previous generation competitor jets.
At the end of September 2019, the A320neo Family had received more than 6,650 firm orders from nearly 110 customers worldwide.
