Fly4 is gearing up for launch by getting its first aircraft painted. The new, Ireland-based, start-up is a joint-venture of TUI and Enter Air and will offer Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance & Insurance (ACMI)-services.

The new company is set to launch later this year starting with four former TUI Boeing B737-800s. These are:

EI-FFA B737-8K5 (38097), former TUI G-TUKM and arrived at Shannon for painting on 15 January 2024

EI-FFB B737-8K5 (37243), currently in service with TUI as G-TAWL

EI-FFC B737-8K5 (37251), currently in service with TUI as G-TAWN

EI-FFD B737-8K5 (40944), currently in service with TUI as OO-JAY

JAL to start dedicated cargo aircraft ops in February

JAL Group (JAL) announced the introduction of a Boeing 767-300ER freighter and said it would restart dedicated cargo operations in February. The operation of the freighters will enhance stable and flexible air transportation capabilities, ensuring a steady supply. Furthermore, the development of a network strategy based on growing demand will ensure the satisfaction of customer needs and contribute to the sustainable development of the logistics infrastructure, the airline said in a statement.

In a separate statement in May, the airline said it would induct three B767 freighters by the end of FY2023 (March 2024) and deploy them primarily around East Asia. “With plans for further growth in the cargo and mail business, the company has decided to operate its own freighters,” the airline said.

JAL operated dedicated freighters until 2010 when it retired three B767s. Since then, it has relied on the available bellyhold in its passenger aircraft for cargo. In its statement, the carrier gives two reasons why it is re-introducing freighters. “With the introduction of the freighter, a new business model will be established to ensure stable and growing demand,” it says. Japan Airlines says this includes building relationships with logistics partners as well as operating its own freighter flights.

According to Japan Airlines, the incoming B737-300ERBCFs can carry 32 tonnes (24 pallets) on the main deck, and 16 tonnes (three pallets plus nine containers) on the lower deck. The aircraft has a cruising distance of 10,460 kilometres.
