Chengdu Airlines took delivery of its fifth new aircraft of this year, with an unpainted Airbus 320 landed smoothly at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) at 6:25 p.m. on Nov. 26. The new aircraft is also the third new aircraft delivered to the airline in November, which expands its all-Airbus fleet size by 45 percent to 16 aircraft, making a firm step forward a leading complex, low-cost carrier.

On May 30, Chengdu Airlines announced it would transform into a low-cost carrier and race to grab a share in the fledgling budget aviation market in China. The airline positions itself as a complex, low-cost carrier featuring cheap airfares, optional services, single cabin configuration with special-size seats, as well as code-sharing, FFP and ticket distribution system.

With its fleet expansion, Chengdu Airlines has opened 13 new air routes, which brings its total routes to 43 covering nearly all regions across the country except Xinjiang and Tibet. Currently, the Chengdu-based carrier operates a fleet of 16 A320 family aircraft and plans to expand its fleet size to 100 aircraft by 2020.
