Indonesia AirAsia Extra Denpasar to Sydney

Indonesia AirAsia Extra has launched its second route to Australia with the introduction on 17 October of flights between Denpasar (DPS) on the island of Bali and Sydney (SYD). The 4,619-kilometre route will be operated five times weekly using 377-seat A330-300s. Competition on the route comes from Garuda Indonesia (five weekly flights), Jetstar Airways (six weekly flights) and Virgin Australia Airlines (eight weekly flights). Indonesia AirAsia Extra began flights to Melbourne from Bali back in March. Kerrie Mather, CEO, Sydney Airport, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Indonesia AirAsia X to Sydney, providing more choice for Sydneysiders travelling to Bali, as well as greater connectivity to Indonesian and Asian destinations from the airline’s Bali hub. We’re thrilled that Sydney Airport is now the world’s leading low-cost long-haul airport, with five international low-cost long-haul carriers.” Indonesia AirAsia X CEO, Dendy Kurniawan, who travelled on the inaugural flight, said: “We are delighted to serve direct flights between Bali and Sydney, providing Sydneysiders the opportunity to explore Bali and beyond at affordable fares. From Bali, our guests can fly onwards to many exotic destinations within Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Yogykarta.” Bali is Australia’s largest outbound leisure market.
