NEW AIRLINE - BBN Airlines Thailand begins ACMI ops

BBN Airline Thailand (2023) (Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) commenced ACMI operations on December 1, 2025, with Thai VietJetAir (VZ, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) as its first customer, the airline said in a press release.

BBN Airlines Thailand, until recently trading as Thai SmartLynx Airlines, is deploying its sole A320-200, HS-SXA (msn 5089), on routes from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Chiang Mai and Phuket. The aircraft, delivered in August 2025, is configured with 180 all-economy seats.

The carrier secured its air operator's certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand in late October. It plans to build a fleet of 15-20 aircraft within three to five years, targeting ACMI markets in Thailand and beyond.

A subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, the airline was rebranded from Thai SmartLynx Airlines to its original corporate name following ASG's retirement of the SmartLynx Airlines brand.

The launch coincides with Thailand's reversal of a waiver that had allowed foreign pilots to operate wet-leased aircraft on domestic routes. The change followed a legal challenge by a local pilot union after Thai VietJetAir wet-leased aircraft from Avion Express Malta (4X, Malta International), another ASG unit, for domestic services earlier in 2025.

ASG has two other BBN-branded airlines, namely BBN Airlines Indonesia and BBN Airlines Türkiye. It also operated Iceland-based BBN Airlines Nordic until 2024.
