Corendon Dutch Airlines to add first B737 MAX 9 in 2Q19

Corendon Airlines (XC, Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen) has announced it will take delivery of its first B737-9 in May 2019. In a statement, the Turkish leisure specialist said the jet would, in fact, be placed with its Corendon Dutch Airlines (CD, Amsterdam Schiphol) unit for use during the Summer 2019 season.

In August this year, Corendon said it would add three more B737-8s to its current fleet of one in May and June 2019 with the third and final one due in May 2020.

Corendon Dutch Airlines currently operates three B737-800s on scheduled charter flights from Amsterdam Schiphol to each of Banjul, Fuerteventura, Hurghada, Las Palmas, and Tenerife Sur as well as between Maastricht and Banjul. One aircraft will also be deployed to Curacao on a winter-long wet-lease contract with Divi Divi Air (DVR, Curacao). The jet will be used to connect Curacao with Aruba St. Maarten, Brasilia, and São Paulo Guarulhos.

Avolon firms up order for 100 A320neo Family aircraft

Dublin, Ireland-headquartered aircraft lessor Avolon has firmed up an order for 75 A320neos and 25 A321neos. The agreement is the single largest order for Airbus aircraft ever placed by Avolon.

The agreement takes Avolon’s cumulative orders with Airbus to 284 aircraft (240 single-aisles and 44 widebody aircraft) including the A321neo, the A330neo and the A350 XWB.

Dómhnal Slattery, Avolon CEO, commented: “Our order for 100 A320neo family aircraft builds on our leading industry position and reflects our ambition to become the global leader in the sector. We continue to see robust demand from our customers for the A320neo family globally. This is consistent with our own market research and global fleet forecast. The new order for 100 aircraft, together with the 22 single-aisles and four wide-bodies already delivered, increases Avolon’s Airbus backlog to 258, the largest of any lessor.

Featuring the widest single-aisle cabin in the sky, the efficient A320neo Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver more than 15 percent fuel and CO2 savings from day one and 20 percent by 2020 as well as 50 percent noise reduction. With more than 6,200 orders received from over 100 customers, the A320neo Family has captured some 60 percent of the market.

SpiceJet / Spice Xpress) adds its first Boeing 737-700F

India's SpiceJet has taken delivery of its first dedicated freighter aircraft as it plans to start its first cargo services on 18 September.

The low-cost carrier tells FlightGlobal that cargo services will be operated by a separate business unit called SpiceXpress, which will fly between Delhi, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Amritsar, Hong Kong and Kabul.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that SpiceJet's first freighter is a converted Boeing 737-700 (MSN 29042) that has been leased from NGF Genesis. The 1998-build jet was originally operated by Xiamen Airlines, and was converted earlier this year in Tel Aviv.

SpiceJet says that it plans to induct another three more 737-700Fs by the end of March 2019.
When all four freighters are in operation, its total cargo capacity will rise to around 900t daily, compared to around 500t now.
The announcement follows an earlier 2015 development in which SpiceJet said it was intending to start dedicated freighter services at the end of that year, and had also ceased all cargo subcontract

Longhao Receives Boeing 737-400F From Vallair

The aircraft was previously operated by the Japan Transocean Airlines and was converted at Gameco in Guangzhou

The aircraft is Guangdong Longhao Aviation Group’s addition in its fleet of five 737-300F aircraft, which are primarily deployed for air cargo operations.

Aircraft trading, leasing and specialist MRO organisation, Vallair, has successfully delivered their first Boeing 737-400F to the Guangdong Longhao Aviation Group of China.

Previously operated by the Japan Transocean Airlines, the aircraft was converted at Gameco in Guangzhou under a Pemco STC.

The aircraft is Guangdong Longhao Aviation Group’s addition in its fleet of five 737-300F aircraft, which are primarily deployed for air cargo operations.

Norbert Marx, CEO of Gameco stated “Since entering our co-operation with Pemco, Vallair is our first customer for cargo conversion under the Pemco STC in Guangzhou. Our technical team has worked closely with Vallair’s cargo conversion specialists to ensure that Longhao has the optimum aircraft for their needs.

“Our chosen provider partnership with Vallair in the Asia region establishes a strong commitment to timely completion of the highest standard and the whole team of engineers and technicians at Gameco is extremely proud to deliver this great aircraft.”

Operating out of Guangzhou Airport, Longhao Airlines is a Chinese cargo carrier with a registered capital of $61.6m. Delivering freighter services to domestic and international sectors in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, the carrier was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration in 2016. To date, the carrier maintains nine cargo routes.

Peter Koster, head of Cargo Conversions at Vallair, shared: “Vallair takes a long-term view with regards to its Chinese portfolio, we are carefully building a fleet of Boeing and Airbus commercial aircraft that will form the bedrock of our cargo conversion programme. As these mature aircraft come to the end of their operational lease agreements we are extending the life of these assets in the most economically beneficial way through our cost-effective conversion programme.”

Wizz Air commenced operations on nine new routes between 20 and 26 November. It opened seven new services from Vienna (VIE) alone in the space of two days

The majority of routes will be flown twice-weekly, but the highest-frequency link, between Vienna and Dortmund (DTM), will operate six times weekly. The longest sector length among the new airport pairs is the 2,303-kilometre connection from Vienna to Lisbon (LIS). The shortest route is the 745-kilometre link from the Austrian capital to Dortmund. The average sector length across the nine new airport pairs is 1,417 kilometres. Five of the nine routes will face direct competition.

Boeing KC-46 Tanker Program Completes Phase II Receiver Certification Testing

EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 3, 2018 – Boeing’s [NYSE: BA] KC-46 tanker program has completed its planned Phase II receiver certification flight testing following three weeks of flights with F-15E aircraft out of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.

Boeing and U.S. Air Force KC-46 crews kicked off receiver certification testing with F-16 aircraft in April 2018. Since then the joint team also completed testing with KC-135, C-17, A-10, KC-46, B-52, and F/A-18 aircraft.

“This accomplishment is a tribute to the Boeing/U.S. Air Force team and helps set the stage for the start of Initial Operational Test & Evaluation testing next year,” said Mike Gibbons, Boeing KC-46A tanker vice president and program manager. “We are seeing great progress in both test and production and expect the positive momentum to continue as we begin delivering aircraft.”

During the certification flight tests, KC-46 and receiver aircraft flew at different airspeeds, altitudes and configurations to ensure compatibility and performance throughout the refueling envelope of each receiver. Now, the Air Force and the Aerial Refueling Certification Agency will review all test data and paperwork before ultimately “certifying” each aircraft.

"The Air Force crews were with us every step of the way during this critical testing,” said Jake Kwasnik, KC-46 test program manager. “It was awesome to see everyone working together as we conducted flights out of Boeing Field and also at Edwards and Minot Air Force bases.”

Six test aircraft have now completed more than 3,700 flight hours and supplied more than four million pounds of fuel in flight to receiver aircraft.

Phase III receiver certification testing will be conducted by the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base in 2019. That testing will include additional receiver aircraft.

The KC-46, derived from Boeing’s commercial 767 airframe, is built in the company’s Everett, Wash., facility. Boeing is currently on contract for the first 52 of an expected 179 tankers for the U.S. Air Force.

The KC-46A is a multirole tanker that can refuel all allied and coalition military aircraft compatible with international aerial refueling procedures and can carry passengers, cargo and patients.

Air Astana receives E190-E2 in ‘snow leopard’ livery

Air Astana’s first Embraer E190-E2 arrived at its Nursultan Nazarbayev International airport base in Astana today, adorned in a special “Snow Leopard” livery.

The delivery of the Pratt & Whitney PW1900G-powered twinjet marks the start of a fleet renewal exercise at the Kazakh carrier, with a total of five E2s on order that will gradually replace nine older-generation E190 aircraft. These have been operated on domestic and low-density regional services since 2011.

Air Astana says the E2’s snow leopard livery is designed to draw global attention to the threat of extinction that the wild cat is facing. The snow leopard is a native of the mountain ranges in southern Kazakhstan, it adds.
