Vietnam Airlines Flies Its First Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner
Vietnamese flag carrier to put largest Dreamliner on some of the world's busiest destinations
787-10 is the most efficient twin-aisle jet flying today and can cover more than 95 percent of twin-aisle routes
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] delivered the first of eight 787-10 Dreamliner airplanes to Vietnam Airlines today via lease from Air Lease Corporation [NYSE: AL]. The Vietnamese flag carrier plans to put the 787-10 – the most fuel-efficient twin-aisle airplane in the industry – on the busiest routes in its expanding network.

The new 787-10 will complement Vietnam Airlines' existing fleet of 787-9 jets. Both feature the Dreamliner's ultra-efficient technology and passenger-pleasing comforts. The 787-10 is longer than the 787-9, providing the space to carry 40 more passengers and more cargo and helping it offer the lowest operating costs per seat of any twin-aisle jet in service today. Vietnam Airlines is outfitting its 787-10 models with 367 seats (24 in business class and 343 in economy class). In addition to its size and fuel efficiency, the 787-10 can cover long distances. With a published range of 6,430 nautical miles (11,910 km), the 787-10 can fly more than 95 percent of the world's twin-aisle routes.

With the delivery to Vietnam Airlines, the 787-10 continues to expand its global presence. More than 30 of this Dreamliner model have been delivered to six operators since the airplane entered commercial service last year. Airlines are deploying the 787-10 around the world, especially in Asia as it is home to more than half of all 787-10 destinations.

Alaska Airlines adjusts Dash 8-400 phase-out plan
Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma Int'l) has substantially decelerated the phase-out of Dash 8-400 turboprops operated by Horizon Air (QX, Seattle Tacoma Int'l) due in 2019 and 2020.
According to its quarterly financial report, Alaska Airlines has reactivated two previously retired Dash 8-400s and expects them to rejoin active service in "late 2019". As such, at the end of the year, the carrier plans to actively operate 33 turboprops, up from the previously anticipated 31.
In 2020, the carrier now plans to retire just one Dash 8-400, bringing the overall number of the type in Horizon Air's fleet to 32. At the beginning of this year, Alaska Airlines planned to have just twenty-three Dash 8-400s left at the end of 2020.
According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, Horizon Air currently has thirty-eight Dash 8-400 s in its fleet, of which five are in long-term storage. Out of the thirty-three active units, one - N402QX (msn 4032) - returned to active service on August 11, 2019, after having been stored at Sault Sainte Marie, ON since June 25, 2019, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.
Alaska Airlines has been affected by the grounding of the B737 MAX, although to a lesser degree than many of its competitors. The carrier did not take any B737 MAX prior to the grounding, although it initially expected to take three B737-9s in 2019.
"Two of the three B737-9 aircraft that were originally scheduled for delivery in 2019 have been shifted to 2020 in light of the recent MAX grounding, based on our best estimate of the expected delivery dates," it said in the quarterly report.

Republic Airways to add 30 E175s amid Delta changes
Republic Airways (YX, Indianapolis Int'l) will add thirty E175s to its fleet to operate a more extensive network of regional routes on behalf of Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson), the capacity provider said in a press release.
The first of the thirty Embraer regional jets will be delivered between October 2019 and July 2020. The aircraft are transfers from Compass Airlines (United States of America) (CP, Minneapolis/St. Paul).
"Our partnership with Delta is a vital part of our business, and we’re excited by the opportunity to expand our relationship with Delta and continue to serve its customers," President and CEO Bryan Bedford said.
To support increased Delta Connection operations, Republic Airways will open new crew bases at Boston and Louisville Int'l airports in December 2019. The carrier currently has a maintenance base at the latter airport and no facilities at the former.
According to the ch-aviation fleets advanced module, Republic Airways currently operates 129 E175s, of which sixteen operate under the Delta Connection brand. The carrier also operates sixty-two E170s, including twenty-one on behalf of Delta.
Republic Airways also operates on behalf of American Airlines and United Airlines.
The changes are related to the shake-up of Delta Connection's operations. Delta recently announced it will terminate contracts with GoJet Airlines (G7, St. Louis Lambert Int'l) and Compass Airlines while expanding partnerships with Republic Airways, SkyWest Airlines (United States of America) (OO, Salt Lake City), and Endeavor Air (9E, Minneapolis/St. Paul).
Compass Airlines currently operates thirty-six E175s for Delta. SkyWest has already announced it will take over six of these aircraft. All thirty-six units are owned by Delta Air Lines.

China Eastern extends Boeing 777 London Gatwick service to early-Oct 2019
China Eastern Airlines in recent schedule update once again revised planned Boeing 777-300ER operation on Shanghai Pu Dong – London Gatwick route. Previously scheduled from 01JUL19 to 30AUG19, the 777-300ER is now scheduled to operate until 04OCT19.
This route is served 3 times a week.

Saudia temporary files Boeing 787-10 service in S20
Saudia in the GDS and schedule listing has filed preliminary service for Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft. Preliminary filing currently displays the -10 aircraft operating Kuala Lumpur – Jeddah route, effective from 29MAR20. The configuration of 787-10 Dreamliner is C24Y333.

Pakistan's Air Sial okayed for 2019 launch
The Pakistani Prime Minister Imram Khan has granted approval for start-up airline Air Sial (SIF, Sialkot), Dawn TV has reported. The airline intends to launch operations in 2019.
The start-up is owned by the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industries and will operate out of Sialkot in cooperation with local businesses. So far, no further business plans have been revealed.
Air Sial initially planned to launch by the end of 2016.
Sialkot is one of Pakistan's most industrialised cities and, as such, is a key hub for the country's import and export flows. The airport in this north-eastern city currently sees 54 weekly scheduled departures, mostly to the Gulf countries, as well as domestically to Karachi Int'l. Sialkot is set to see its first European route to Paris CDG via Barcelona El Prat, operated by PIA - Pakistan International Airlines, as of January 19, 2019.
