SalamAir commenced daily flights between Muscat and Dubai on the 8 October, with the service switching from Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport where it had been operating since 28 February
The 348-kilometre route between the Omani capital and UAE mega-hub, a sector which has been extended by two kilometres from the Al Maktoum operation, will face direct competition from three airlines, namely Oman Air (six times daily), flydubai (41 times weekly) and Emirates (three times daily). SWISS also operates the city pair on its Zurich–Dubai–Muscat–Dubai–Zurich route, however it does not have local traffic rights on the sector between the UAE and Oman. Like before, SalamAir will continue to operate to Dubai utilising its A320 fleet. With this route moving to Dubai’s main airport, Al Maktoum is no longer served directly from Muscat.
