A new study published by UpgradedPoints recognized Frontier Airlines for having the youngest fleet of aircraft among U.S. airlines. The study analyzed various airlines to determine their average fleet age and the age of their oldest aircraft, as well as consumer preferences for fleet age when booking travel. It found that Frontier’s average fleet age was just 4.8 years, nearly five years younger than the next youngest fleet.
Key findings from the UpgradedPoints study:
· Frontier has an average fleet age of 4.8 years, compared to other airline fleets ranging from 9.5 – 15 years
· Frontier’s oldest aircraft is 11 years old, compared to other airlines ranging from 24 – 37.4 years
· 57% of travelers responding to a survey said they care about the age of the aircraft they fly on. 63% say the age would influence their booking choice between two similar flights.
In addition to creating a better customer experience, having a young and fuel-efficient fleet also empowers Frontier’s operation as America’s Greenest Airline. With the youngest A320neo family fleet in the U.S., the airline is able to use less fuel, reducing its carbon footprint and saving consumers money. Earlier this year, Frontier was recognized in Cirium’s 2025 EmeraldSky review as North America’s lowest-emission carrier, in part because of its young fleet.
