Norwegian eyes Stockholm to Africa, India, Brazil in 2016

Norwegian Long Haul is planning to open up three more intercontinental routes from Stockholm Arlanda either next year or in 2017 Norwegian CEO, Björn Kjos, has disclosed.

In an interview with Sweden's Dagbladet newspaper, Kjos said the routes will include Rio de Janeiro Int'l in Brazil as well as undisclosed destinations in India and South Africa. Talks to finalize the routes, to be plied with its fleet of B787-8s, are currently in progress, he added. Currently, Norwegian's longhaul operations out of Stockholm include Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Fort Lauderdale Int'l, Los Angeles Int'l, New York JFK, and Oakland.

With a massive order book of one hundred A320neos, one hundred B737 MAX 8s, forty-five B737-900s and nine B787-9s, Kjos has not shied away from ambitious goals. In the past he has also speculated about using Norwegian's base in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands to offer flights to South and Central America - the Caribbean and Brazil in particular - while using its incoming fleet of B737 MAX 8s to open up flights from secondary European cities to the United States, and possibly China.
