State-owned Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China, Ltd. (COMAC) has almost completed the basic assembly of its first C919 prototype airframe, local media reported on Friday.
A picture released by Pudong Times shows that the C919 has taken shape in the final assembly line in Shanghai's Pudong New District. However, no systems have been installed on the prototype aircraft.
The engines, avionics, flight control and hydraulics systems are yet to be installed.
COMAC started final assembly of its first C919 test aircraft in September 2014. The manufacturer is on track to complete final assembly of the large passenger airliner in the second half of 2015.
The C919 is China's first home-grown large passenger commercial jet which can accommodate up to 160 passengers.
The C919 is expected to make its maiden flight by the end of this year, with delivery scheduled in 2017, said COMAC.
COMAC has secured 450 orders for the single-aisle aircraft from 18 customers.
