Garuda Indonesia has confirmed the launch of its Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to London Gatwick flights have been delayed until May 2014. According to AirlineRoute, the 5x weekly flights were to have begun on November 2 using a B777-300(ER). Garuda blames the delay on runway issues at Soekarno-Hatta that prevent it from operating the route with full payloads. The European Union banned all 51 registered Indonesian airlines from its airspace in 2007 following a slew of deadly accidents that exposed systemic flaws in the country's aviation sector’s supervision as well as problems within the airlines themselves. Following a dramatic improvement in the airline's safety standards and a relaunch, the moratorium on Garuda flights was lifted in 2009.
