Indonesia's Lion Air to replace B747s with high-density A330s

Lion Airlines will use its three recently ordered A330-300s to replace its fleet of two B747-400 used on flights to Saudi Arabia. Chief Executive Officer, Rudy Lumingkewas, told the Viva news site last week that the aircraft would arrive with 440 seats in an all-economy configuration.

"So, the Airbus A330 replaces our old aircraft - the Boeing 747 - in servicing flights to Jeddah. We will also be using this A330 for some domestic flights," he said.

The aircraft will be the Indonesian budget carrier's first Airbus Industrie metal in an otherwise all-Boeing fleet consisting of one B737-300, four B737-400s, thirty B737-800s, and seventy-one B737-900(ER)s.
