Qatar Airways commenced services between its Doha (DOH) hub and Birmingham (BHX) on 30 March.
The 5,348-kilometre sector will be flown eight times weekly (twice-daily on Saturdays), with the oneworld member using its 787-8 fleet on the route. Commenting on the launch, Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, said: “Qatar Airways is delighted to commence services to Birmingham, our fourth UK gateway. This vibrant and economically powerful region represents an important addition to our worldwide network and is a testament to our commitment to the UK. Passengers now have access to more than 150 global destinations, accessed via 73 flights per week from the UK.” Qatar Airways also serves Edinburgh, London Heathrow and Manchester from its Doha hub. Although the route faces no direct competition, the carrier will face competition from fellow MEB3 member Emirates for onward connections, with it operating a thrice-daily service to the UK’s second city from its Dubai base.
